So I’ve been going to this place more than the 2 times I checked in. It’s sorta the go to spot for good(not the best) sushi and in general a chill night out to eat. The restaurant manager… Very nice. I think he is starting to recognize me and my gf whenever we go for takeout(most of the time) or dine in that one time. I highly recommend this place. I know I’m going to be coming around more often.

The quality of the sushi and sashimi here was pretty decent. And the«all can you drink» sake deal for $ 10 is tough to beat, even though it’s among the lowest grade sake on the planet. The service was unbearably slow. The restaurant was empty on a Thursday night at 6pm when I came here with a friend. We got a couple rolls and pieces of sashimi among the two of us. They ended up taking about 45 minutes to bring out our orders. About halfway into that 45 minutes, they asked us if we wanted the regular sized rolls or the happy hour sized ones. Really? You mean, you guys didn’t even start making it?

If you’re craving late night sushi in the area, this is a cute place to get it. Both the Salmon Avocado and Shrimp Avocado rolls were tasty, though the rice was a bit too fluffy. Skip the cocktails, though. The Lychee Martini is just sugar water.

Great sushi place. Pretty authentic. Very nice deco and ambiance. The sashimi platter comes with sea urchins and big slices of yellow tail. Very good value!

Not great. I had the shrimp tempura roll and my friend had something with salmon. Neither of us really liked our food. The staff was nice though.

Love this place! Restaurant is really nice, well-lit, and nicely decorated. Like how there are little candles on all the tables and there’s plenty of space so you don’t feel crowded by the other tables. Sake(+ sake bombs) are a great deal here. And super fun! You can be loud and more rowdy in a nice location and not be told to quiet down. The wait staff is really nice and an extra plus is the sushi is actually pretty good! The fish is fresh, and they give you extra fish on top of sushi(is that a thing!!! why has this never happened to me before!!!) Worth the trek!

It’s a nice place, lots of wood tables/nice atmosphere(not too fancy). I had the spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, and squash/pickled vegetable rolls. The spicy tuna wasn’t spicy at all, and had a weird texture, maybe ground up in some way? Shrimp tempura was nice, and the squash/picked veggie rolls were a nice compliment. Temperature of the rice was good, and so was the presentation. The soy sauce on our table was WAY too salty — I usually see the lower sodium option but I didn’t this time. Ginger was fresh and likewise, the wasabi. Good for the price!

This review is for take-out: These guys are top notch! Salads are beautiful(see pic) and sushi is delish. They are willing to correct mistakes if they happen and they’re very nice. EDIT: I have now visited Cho Cho San in person and can say their dining area is way nicer then I expected! It really is nice feeling and there is even a large room in the back(possibly for private parties?). Food was good as always.

The sushi here is okay, I’m not sure what all the rave reviews are about. I would say — menu is very standard, nothing is particurly exciting. Some rolls were not formed very well, and would fall apart very easy. I won’t be back, but the staff are super duper nice!

Brought my Italian cousins who love sushi here. We were VERY pleased with everything once we figured out how to translate Italian/English/Japanese! ;-) Food was extremely fresh and tasty as well as beautifully presented! Definitely go!

Cho Cho san, man I had my suspicions looking at the menu which were unfortunately confirmed upon eating. Not serving good sushi at all. There is WAYWAY too much rice in the basic rolls, the fish is okay, but not great, but really the sushi is not being made properly. Those that know sushi know. And I’m not talking about needing to be on the level of high end. I eat my fill of neighborhood sushi joints and appreciate proper sushi. The worst part is I’d give them a pass, but the price is a notch up, posing like they are a legit spot. They are not. I can’t speak to the kitchen food, but the sushi here is about as sub-par as you’ll find at this price point.

For appetizer, I shared the pickled vegetables as well as a chicken and broccoli tempura like dish. The broccoli seemed to be well baked which gave it a kale like texture. It was definitely an interesting pair of apps. The tempura dish came with a spicy mustard which had the potency of russian mustard. The sushi and rolls I ate for the main course were very good. I had salmon sushi, an eel and avocado handroll, and spicy tuna rolls. All of the fish was fresh. The rolls were perfectly wrapped which prevented any of them from falling apart. The prices were reasonable. Standard rolls were between $ 6 and $ 8. Specialty rolls were a bit more. Most of the sushi and sashimi was in the $ 3 to $ 4 range with only a few exceptions. The portions were very fair for the price. I was a little irked by a couple things. First, the restaurant had an open sign out front, but it was not seating customers the first time we stopped by. Second, they did not have any uni available despite it being on the menu. Fortunately, the positives out-weighed my criticism which made for a nice all around experience. In addition to good food, the service was good. I liked that our glasses were promptly refilled and that we were served complimentary green tea at the end of our dinner.

I really liked this place! The sushi was very good, and the staff was very helpful. Definitely not a place worth traveling too far for, but if you are in the area and want sushi, this place will fit exactly what you’re looking for.

3.5 stars I had a very nice dinner here with a friend earlier in the week. They have a really great happy hour deal that we both took advantage of! Two maki rolls + soup or salad for $ 10 and half price sushi and sashimi on weekdays between 4 – 7. We arrived at around 6:30 and didn’t end up ordering until a little bit after 7, but our waiter was kind enough to honor our arrival time. I got a shrimp avocado and eel avocado roll, plus a piece of yellowtail, white tuna, uni, spicy tuna, fluke and salmon, The sushi was solid – it wasn’t the best I ever had, but it certainly wasn’t the worst. It just lacked in flavor to me a bit. However, the portions were extremely generous. I will have to go back to decide if it is truly deserving of 4 stars, but based on the service and price, I felt compelled to round up.

Went on a busy Friday night, & service was very slow due to a raucous party in the back. Despite that, the food was excellent; there was no sacrifice in quality, which I appreciated. The Vegetarian Bento Box was insane. Didn’t care for the Edamame Potato Salad, but everything else was phenomenal.

Cho Cho is my sushi dinner place if I’m ever going out for sushi. In fact, I go here so much, the owner(and most staff) recognize my face! They’re all super nice and attentive, never rush your meal, and will accommodate most anything they are able to. The best sake deal — $ 10 for unlimited hot or cold sake — is here and I usually participate in this. It’s a great deal and the sushi is amazing! Particularly, I get eel, salmon/avocado, yellowtail, and tuna here(either rolls or sashimi) and they’re great. Also, I love the avocado salad and edamame of course — mmmmmmm!!! I would probably go for the more traditional items(instead of the special rolls here) as I think they’re better.

The sushi rice is too sticky and overcooked. It’s probably not an authentic Japanese restaurant. The yellowtail doesn’t seem as fresh. It’s too hot inside — I know it’s a beautiful day but since there is no cross ventilation, opening the door makes it even hotter inside. Price sounded right but I’d rather not have a deal if the deal suffers in quality. Sad

I’ve been to Cho Cho San several times now and decided to visit again during my recent trip to NYC in Feb 2013. I’d have to say that that was my favorite visit to Cho Cho San. I visited with a large group of friends(12+ people) and the restaurant was great about accommodating all of us on short notice on a busy Saturday night. This restaurant has excellent sushi bowls and cocktails. This time, I ordered the Chirashi bowl(assorted sashimi over rice) this time, and also a very flowery cocktail(I forgot the name of it). We also ordered some edamame and vegetable tempura as appetizers for the table. Once again, I was highly impressed by Cho Cho San and plan on visiting again when I’m in NYC in the future.
