I had a ton of fun while here, but the only thing that put me off was the music at times and the reason why the DJ wouldn’t play different music. I tried to request a song, only to be blocked by a bouncer in front of him. He said «no song requests» and when I asked why, he said the manager gave the DJ a specific list of music he could play that night because someone requested it. It ended up being a random mish mash of rock, 90s music, a sprinkling of top 40s and some house — no hip hop, no Latin. The list really didn’t make sense and I don’t see why guests couldn’t request songs and they had the DJ holed up in a corner with a bouncer watching him. Crazy

The bar upstairs is not the place to go. The woman bartending was really rude to us and the other patrons around us too. However the bar downstairs is way better! Super friendly bartenders and great DJ. Don’t show up here until 10pm and skip the main floor and just go straight downstairs!

Quiet, intimate place compared to the other bars located in LES.
While every other bar in LES had a long wait line, my friend and I entered this place to start off our night with a few drinks.

Absolutely terrible service. The coat check told me I had to pay beforehand for my bags, and so I did. And when I picked them up she said that I never payed… And I even tipped her 10 dollars before. So, I had to her again… Gave her a 20 and the bags were 4 dollars and she gave me back 6 dollars. It was embarrassing to watch someone be so confidently rude.

I recently planned a birthday party here and this place was nothing short of a nightmare. Despite meeting with their events person the week before and exchanging various emails confirming my plans, when I arrived the bar was closed for a private event (not my event but another one). They told us to come back an hour later and could care less that we had people arriving with no where to go. Once we went back they made us stand outside and ignored us. When we finally got in there was not even a table reserved! One disappointment after another, avoid planning anything at this bar! In person and email confirmations apparently mean nothing and the staff was extremely rude.

Reading the reviews, I get the down ratings. But I had a great experience with Chloe 81, especially the staff, so I’m reviewing it with high marks.
I emailed the venue in advance and requested to bring in some friends (15 people) for a party. Quick email exchange, fast replies, very few words — and everything was set.
Anthony greeted us at the door, with a smile, and my friends had no trouble getting in.
The staff is great. The DJ is great. They keep the downstairs perfectly crowded/​not crowded.
The dim lights and white tiled atmosphere give Chloe 81 a nice feel — it’s great to dance, stand at the bar and mingle or sit and chill.
Definitely a solid spot to stop in with friends.
Guys (though this should go without saying), don’t look sloppy or you won’t get in.

This place is lame. The owner is on a power trip… hes a «cee u next tuesday». It smells like awful inside. Drinks are watered down, and over priced, staff is rude beyond an acceptable amount.

After having their upstairs opened, decorated interior, plants and such. they’re still a let down.
First. $ 14 drinks? No. Were they good? No. Can they bartend? No. Do they have a LOT of SPACE to doll around with? Yes.
They serve food. Oysters starting at $ 2. I mean A for effort? For vibe? Sure… But paying for $ 17.50 for a margarita when there’s great restaurants down the street (I know. My poor judgement). I’m sorry but you guys reallyyyyyy need to bring those digits down. Low. Happy hour might help (5−7pm). Otherwise, try grinning on your (service included) bill. GL.

Great spot to pull up for a drink after work.
The cocktails are all made with some care and tasty. And the fries with mayo make for a great appetizer if you are not looking for a full meal.
The bar area is small, but somehow transports you to Latin America.

Hosted a graduation party here with about 60 guests and everyone had a good time and the interior is very pretty.
On that note, the staff is sickening and needs to learn to deal with guests better, no matter how drunk they are. They wouldn’t let me back in after my open bar hour was up because I thought I had left a gift inside. One bouncer called me racial slurs and claimed he was a skinhead. He then punched another guest for wanting to go back in to get his girlfriend. Even throughout the night they were standing by the DJ booth, staring at all of the guests with a very scary energy.
Based on the reviews from this place, I still chose to host a party here because I figured it would be all of my own friends so we would have fun on our own, but nope, couldn’t escape.

I went to chloe81 last night (a snowy and messy Saturday) I had such an amazing time, I thought I just had to write a review! I had a group of friends meet here for my…(yikes…35^th) birthday and we couldn’t have had more fun! The upstairs lounge felt like a Parisian chic café and then downstairs… A fun, FUN area to dance and hang with friends! The manager, M was FANTASTIC, and couldn’t be more helpful and kind… And the door staff… Simply Amazing! And he was stuck in the rain and cold all night, but still stayed kind and positive… I wouldn’t have changed a single thing. Perfect for me and me and my friends. Thank you chloe81, we will be back so very soon!

I really wanted to like this place. I really did, hence the two stars for effort! The space is actually really nice, spacious and felt somewhat akin to being in an old bathhouse. The thing that put me off the most was the service. There was this one bartender who was way too busy flirting with girls and couldn’t be bothered, with his grubby hands which he constantly ran through his hair, I felt he was Bruce Jenner’s doppelgänger. After paying for my drink, basically threw my cash at me on the counter, weird dude.

My favorite place in town. First of all, I love that it’s in the LES. I love that it’s kind of hard to find and that it’s downstairs. Good music in a nice private atmosphere. Very different from all the clubs in New York.

This place is crap. The drinks aren’t cheap and the precharge your tip. I got two drinks, a vodka tonic and a whiskey and they charged me $ 5.20 for a tip. That’s fucking ridiculous. Never going back. Bunch of con artists.

This place is obnoxious. Avoid it.
I was checking out some bars to potentially host my wife’s 30^th birthday party. A girl at work suggested this place, so I went over on Friday night around 11pm. The street is dark and deserted except for one doorman standing alone in front of a cellar door. He immediately tells me I can’t come in unless I have reservations.
There’s absolutely zero other people outside. But OK pal, I get it, I’m just a single guy with no girls so you won’t let me in.
I explain that I just want to check it out because I“m planning a party in a few weeks. Nope. He suggests I come back on Thursday, the only day you can walk up without reservations. What?
I asked him to let me in for 10 seconds to check out the vibe of the place. Nope. He hands me a business card and tells me to check it out on the internet. ARE YOU SERIOUS?
So a big F.U. to Chloe81. I’m not going to bring 25 people to your bar and buy multiple bottles from a place that won’t even let me look inside. And I looked online, your place looks like my grandmother’s bathroom.

Love this place! Me and my boyfriend were here a Wednesday night. The food was great. The wine was really nice and so the French dessert. But most of all I fell in love with the interior and the music. Super cosy and upscale place to a good price. Go here!

I celebrated my birthday here this past weekend and had an amazing time. I came with 3 girls and we had no trouble getting in at 11pm. It was pretty much empty so we were able to grab the biggest table. My boyfriend and his friends showed up 20 minutes later and I had to come out and talk to the bouncers so they could come in which was a little ridiculous considering the place was still empty at this point.
It doesn’t really have a speakeasy feel – more like a lounge with a great DJ who knew how to please the crowd. Drinks were reasonably priced ($ 10) and fairly strong. It’s clearly a (somewhat unnecessarily and annoyingly) exclusive place but it was nice dancing without being pushed and having plenty of room to sit and enjoy the night with friends.
It’s a great place to come with a small group of friends to have an intimate night but next time I might make a reservation so I don’t have to worry about my friends being allowed in.

I always have a great time when I come to Chloe 81! It’s a cute little spot that always has great music! I think the thing I like the most about this place is the DJs and the music. It’s a good mix of modern, indie, and 90’s to early 2000’s.
The only downside is that the place is pretty small. My friends like to dance when we go out and there isn’t that much room here to dance, but we always seem to make it work! A cool place to check out in NY!
