Reading about a salon in Rome where you go get your hair done just like you want it and at the same time feel at home, people listen and are happy for your good day or symphatise for your sad story. I am thinking «where can you possibly find such a place in New Yotk City?»
Suddenly came to mind this salon I have not seen in over 15 years!
I was tired of trying without success other places.so.I decided to return to Bessie’s CH salon.
It hasn’t changed. same home atmosphere and same amazing stylist. What an inspiration!
I did not have an appointment. I had to wait a bit. well worth it. loved being there. and when my turn came I just showed a picture of how I’d like my cut.“Is this what you want?“
In practically no time it came out perfect. Need to mention how the moment I entered Bessie told her assistant «we have to put some highlights in her hair». She was soo right! I had made my colour way to dark and she still remembered I wasn’t like this.

Great cut from hairstylist Diana today! Asked for a simple trim with layers and got exactly what I wanted. She was very kind and attentive. First timers price was $ 20. Will come back again.

Recently moved to the upper east side and tried this salon out for a color correction and haircut. Amazing! So welcoming and humble. Offered me tea or coffee upon arrival and so easy to talk to. The magazine selection is up to date as well. Found my perfect hair salon!

At 5:45 I walked in and asked humbly if I could get a quick blow out. By 6:10 I was out the door, washed and styled and looking great and only $ 22 out of pocket (plus a big tip for staying… they were about to pack it in when I showed up). Really wonderful experience!

I found out about this salon when I walked in for their $ 20 first time client hair cut and I’ve been hooked ever since!
Vasi is beyond amazing at color. She is up to date with current trends (she hand paints my highlights) and gives honest advice that’s refreshing. If she doesn’t think it will match you or sees any possible issues, she’ll tell you. Vasi is one of the rare neighborhood Greek mothers that everyone stops by to see to share feelings, catch up and walk out with fabulous hair. (Or you can just sit there if you’re not the chatty type).
Marie does my haircuts and blowouts– she takes great direction and if you say you just want half an inch off, she really listens and sticks to it.
Love this place. Highly recommended!
PS– the salon itself isn’t fancy so don’t expect shiny everything. It’s on the small side, but the talent makes up for the lack of salon aesthetic.

The owner and staff were very friendly and very helpful fitting me in for a haircut.
The service was great and my hair looked so much better.
