Caring Transitions of New York City

There are no words to articulate how helpful Caring Transitions has been during an «elderly father» crisis in NYC. After a fall, my 90 year old dad was in a hospital for 3 months, and in the interim, his 3 children (none of whom live in the NY area) had to deal with his apartment in NYC, getting his belongings cleared out, and getting some of the essential items like furniture moved to an assisted living facility in Colorado. Adrian and her team knew exactly what to do about every single aspect of the transition. The team was lovely, we worked with several people who helped us with packing things up, and cleaning things out. Since I live in Washington, DC, Caring Transitions made arrangements to handle the disposal of most of the junk, met the movers and handled every other aspect of the situation. Every single item made it safely to Colorado. I found the Caring Transitions team to be professional, honest, straightforward, helpful, incredibly trustworthy, smart and very supportive. Adrian kept saying «We’ll take care of it…» and they did. I would hire them again in a New York minute. I highly, highly recommend them to you.

Adrian and her team cleaned out my grandparents’ home in Brooklyn. They found many important documents and lots of pictures and personal items. The house was a mess with junk everywhere for 3 floors, and she and her team cleaned out the house completely for a flat rate after seeing the home.

This seemed like a great idea, but in the end was a nightmare for us. We met Adrien to discuss our mother’s move from a large apartment to a much smaller one. They offer a range of services and we were primarily interested in her help selling a huge amount of furniture and household items. Her style, which is very assertive, was not a great match for our mom (who did not want someone else taking charge), but I could see it being perfectly good for someone else. She set us up with an auction house who came and did an assessment of the items. We were told repeatedly that he would give us a much better deal than we would get selling off piece by piece. We were basically string along for weeks and then given a measly offer. At that point we were totally stuck but decided to just sell off what we could individually. We ended up getting a bit more selling off a few things than we would have selling the load to her guy, but it was very stressful and it felt very much like they knew were desperate and taking advantage. In retrospect, this is what the whole business model is. They may well take care of people in crisis and feel like angels to some, but there is still no question that they profit off of that desperation. To be fair, Adrien made nothing from us and did visit us and talk by phone /​email, but that’s a typical commission model.

Caring Transitions provided exactly the service I needed to help clear out my mom’s apartment. They arranged for movers, got me a quote from a buyout dealer, and helped me pack, sort and organize everything. They were super onto it and incredibly proactive. Highly recommend!

Adrian and her team was fantastic! All I had to do was write a couple of checks and she managed the whole process of cleaning out my Aunt’s extremely clutter apartment and moving selected items to her new place. She was very helpful and empathetic in making sure we moved only what was necessary and in setting up her new apartment to be lived in immediately, ie, everything unpacked and placed thoughtfully for my Aunt. The old apartment was left perfectly broom-​clean. Very highly recommended.
