Whenever I am in a «FABRICEMERGENCY»! I can always call up Jesse at C & J! Perfect professionalism with a smile! They have a great selection of colors that can accommodate any design palette. Remember them when you need a lot of yardage for runway samples! C & J will save the day!

A very good place for fashion students who crave for material content information! Not very much helpful when it comes to latest trends, but great way of displaying the material content and %. Great place for basic luxury fabrics, but not for fancy luxury. You could always ask some one to help you! They have a good knowledge of what they sell. See the pics!

I am locally based designer who buys tons of silk I’v been working with Jesse from C&J for more than 5 years. He has been very helpful and reliable. I will recommend to anyone who is looking to start a buying relationship with them to request him. I find that their prices are a few cents more than other similar companies but to me getting things done fast and reliable is what matters. C &j has almost al of their fabrics in stock at all times

It’s funny how some reviewers mention that the prices are reasonable when in fact they’re higher than others competitors. This is a «wholesale» business for designers/companies that need large quantities of an specific color/fabric. I don’t recommend this place for students, you’re better buying from retail fabric stores and you can even negotiate a price. Of course the receptionist is not going to pay attention to you if you’re an student because honestly you have no business there. Fabric distributors like C&J, Calamo, LeLoup Blanc etc are for companies who need an specific color/fabric in stock at all times so when they’re running production(done in NYC) they can go and pick them up at anytime. That being established, my personal experience with them were good. The receptionist wasn’t friendly but wasn’t nasty either, she just page a sales personnel and I discussed with him what I needed, I saw the fabrics and made my purchases. If you’re working with a sample maker, ask them to give you the fabrics in rolls, it’s better to handle and cut after and avoid wrinkles. They have some beautiful lace and embroidery novelty but the selection is limited and way overpriced. If you’re looking for specialty fabrics I would go to retailers in the street level.

I send my clients to C&J Textiles on a regular bases to source fabrics. I have purchase beautiful silk jersey fabric as well as crêpe back satin. The more luxurious I want the design to look, the more I look for good quality. I think C&J fabric quality to high compare to some other stores in the garment district.

We had a truly horrific experience with them. We received $ 8,000 worth of unusable fabric from C &J and they didn’t want to refund us. They didn’t even want to accept a return because they were claiming that it was a ‘special order’. They only refunded us after 2 months of legal letters and after we lost $ 1,500 in legal fees. We ordered sand washed crêpe de chine silk to Barcelona and when we received it the material would break under the least of pressure. We sent them videos and pictures of how it behaves that shows that it had been damaged, but they kept saying that this is the normal way that crêpe de chine acts. The head designer who is very experienced with silk clothing said its unusable and so did the ‘cutter’, sewer and pattern maker. It could not be sewen into clothing because it would break. They refunded us only after we threatened them with legal action and even then, we had to actually draft the official complaint that we were about to send and only then they responded. This cost us not only in time for creating the collection, but in relationships with distributors, created cash flow problems but also extra costs with changing patterns(because we couldn’t find washed silk in a tight time frame). They tried really really hard not give us our money back, but in the end they had to when we threatened them with legal action and showed them all evidence. The annoying part is that they were at least 30% more expensive than anyone else and we originally chose them because we thought they were ‘high quality’.

C&J textile has good quality silk fabrics mostly in solid colors with affordable prices compared to other stores in the garment district. They carry 100% silk and silk mixed stretch fabrics as well. I specifically like their silk chiffon and georgette for dressmaking. This place deserves 4 stars but there is one thing that made me to give them one less star. The thing is that I did not like the receptionist who was working there — the colored hair girl. When I mentionted that I am a student and asked if there was a student discount she acted so rude and unprofessional. She almost made me not want to buy anything from the store as if she did not care for my business there. One of the worst, unprofessional and insincere receptionist ever. I would like to visit the store for future purchases but do not wish to see the girl again!!!

I would give this place a solid 3.5 stars. I just gave them a 4 because the people here are SOO nice. I really respect companies that don’t look down on students and judge whether their customers are worthy or not. NO judgement here! The secretary girl at the front is super nice and cool. She knows all the fabrics on file so just ask her! The price is also AMAZING here. I only really looked at their silks here and they’re really nice and good priced! The only thing about this place is that the selection is very limited. They don’t have much but if you’re looking for nice basics, this is the place to go!
