When I walked into the store, I was warmly greeted. However, the moment I mentioned that I came to return the item, all friendliness, politeness and smelliness disappeared immediately. Johnathan Antoshka(Cashier) said that he needed to speak to the general manager –Lauren. After, he started to examine the coat. When he spotted one hair on it, he intentionally expressed his disgust. He had a facial expression as if he was touching a public toilet bowl. He would not use palms of his hands to examine the coat, he was barely holding it in-between his point finger and a thumb. After, he said in the most arrogant way in front of other customers, that the coat was disgusting(it was not. it was brand new. And I have a common sense to realize what’s disgusting what’s not) and that they cannot exchange it. I was not so upset about the fact that I cannot exchange it, but rather with cashier’s attitude. Then he started to point on my origin and the fact that I am clearly not from this country and that I may not know that in AMERICA there are no returns on clothes and that I should get familiar with the local rules and policies. This is a social discrimination issue. While I understand that Johnathan’s(cashier) behavior was largely caused by his insecurities or some personal issues, I strongly believe that people with social issues like that should not be allowed to interact with customers.

Brooklyn Industries is a local fashion brand, including bags and casual wear, started by two local artists. They have a range of items, including their iconic Brooklyn-centric hoodies, and feature clothes for men, women, and children. Not exactly low price items, but its well-made and fun(I’m particularly crazy about the«No Sleep Till…» onesie!). Service is good, they’re not the«get-in-your-face-with-a-perky-smile-right-when-you-enter-the-door» that you get some places, but they’re always willing to help out, and are very forthcoming and easy to talk to. Oh, and its right across the street from the Shake Shack, so double-win!

Nice open space, merchandise is set up nice and neat and things are really easy to find. Staff is very helpful– i needed a size that wasn’t on display, and they went out of their way to call their other location to see if it was in stock for me– it wasn’t, that’s the only reason why i gave it 4 out of 5 stars… i really wanted that shirt!

This spacious, immaculate, well-kept, loft-like location of Brooklyn Industries is so far my favorite of the chain as well as a testament to the revival of the Fulton Mall. Unlike the Gap Factory store a few blocks away which has a line rivaling Trader Joe’s, this outpost of Brooklyn Industries was sparsely populated by customers during peak lunch hours on a work day. The two employees on site on the day of my visit, Keith, and Grayson, were exceptional. I had come into this store to pick up an item that had been put on hold for me but wound up having Keith energetically taking on the role of personal shopper, as he brought me two cute dresses just to try on that he thought would work for me despite my firm statement that I always wait for sales. One of the two dresses is one that I would not have selected myself but which wound up looking very cute and fitting to a T, so I’m making a mental bookmark of it for my return trips, of which I suspect there will be many. Grayson efficiently rang up my deeply discounted sale purchase(don’t miss out on the extra 40% off promotion currently in effect).

The newest Brooklyn Industries store is located right at the beginning of the crazy Fulton St. mall. It’s well staffed, large, full of clothing & bags(my favorites @ BI, love their bags) yet still seems unwelcoming. Because the store is so large it feels like the amount of product isn’t great enough to fill the store. Things seemed almost too spaced out. Most people, I’m sure, wouldn’t complain about this… but I felt lost inside the store.

BI, the new york chain as many new york things have done, has expanded to Downtown Brooklyn. This particular store is spacious and well stocked as far as I can tell, but not as good with the sales racks as the BI in Soho.

The newest Brooklyn Industries store has recently opened, forming a triangle between Shake Shack and Brooklyn Law School. Essentially, this is the Bermuda triangle for where my money, free time, and my girlish figure disappear. I generally try to stay away from stores that I deem«snooty,» but Brooklyn Industries has a great selection of unique clothes that are fashionable yet wearable on a daily basis. The staff at this particular location are extremely solicitous and aim to please – after plucking a few things from the racks, one salesman started a dressing room for me, and even added a few things he thought I would like! The quality of the clothes is high, and the sale rack has some great options for those among us who have yet to get out of massive student loan debt. Welcome to the neighborhood!
