Great selection, friendly staff, frequent tastings, and on my block? Couldn’t ask for better. The staff is extremely helpful, no matter what you’re looking to spend. Tastings of 3 – 4 wines every Friday and Saturday, with 10% off the bottles being sampled. They have a decent liquor selection, which they occasionally have tastings of as well. I am by no means fussy or particularly knowledgeable about wine, but I always feel welcome here and make a point to give them my business instead of other stores in the area. Love it!

Always impressed by the selection here. The store is beautifully designed. One of the best champagne selections in the entire city, by far! Don’t waste your time at the «liquor stores» in this area, Bottle & Soul is definitely where its at…

I live in the neighborhood and go out of my way NOT to purchase anything any longer from one of the rudest neighborhood establishments I have dealt with. After years of shopping there for wine, spirits and cases of wine for parties I realized that I didn’t have to tolerate the snide Owner’s sarcastic demeanor nor their inability to remember my name. It is a tad further to shop elsewhere but much more pleasant and rewarding. I have shared this feeling with others in my Building only to find we all share the same sentiments!

The workers here have nasty attitudes. There are better liquor stores in the city. Do not come here unless you wanna pay overpriced bottles with bad service…

They have everything (but Averna) and are the nicest, loveliest people. I spent at least half an hour just marveling over what they offer. The place is not huge but they have a little selection of greatest hits in every category. I have a feeling you could walk in with a recipe and they’d totally hook you up on a wine pairing. That’s exactly what I need because I’ve drank so much wine at this point in life I really don’t remember which ones I like anymore! I think you could also walk in with $ 20 to your name and they’d help you find something in your price range.

I cannot stress how often I wander into places looking for a nice, great tasting, inexpensive bottle of wine. I am certainly not over-​the-​top classy, and these lovely people treat me as if I am one of their best customers. Every time. I’m pretty sure that’s why I keep coming back.
Also…they have tastings there all the time. Who doesn’t like to sample their potential selections?!

Apart from the Vintage Grape (3rd Ave near E 83 St– ask for Jim), Bottle and Soul is zip10028’s best source for «Old World» wines. Its (generally) knowledgeable staff will go digging through the stock to help fussy customers (this nabe is chockablock full of fussy) find the right bottle. Unfortunately, like most shops on the UES, they have a limited selection of ‘natural’ wines and wines from the lesser known regions of major European countries. Forget the smaller ones. Pity, if that’s your thing.
Post Script: A few months later, Adam of Bottle and Soul gave me a tour of the shop; they’d acquired a good deal of new stock. Please check his comments to this review.

As a casual wine drinker, Bottle & Soul is a really good place to shop because they have a high quality selection and a knowledgeable, friendly staff that can help you select the right product within your price range. Furthermore, they have a number of tastings and events which give you an opportunity to try some new things and learn more about the products directly from the seller. They also have a nice selection of spirits.

Great selection, great staff, great prices. The wide selection available here is confounding, given its size. The staff is very knowledgeable. Walk in there and say, I’m having a pork for dinner and I’d like something the $ 25 range, and they’ll ask you how you’re preparing the pork. Any one of them could be a sommelier if they wanted to. They have a number of great wines under $ 15 as well, making for a good Mon-​Thurs bottle. There’s also a very well put together whiskey selection in the back, plus they have regular tastings. At the risk of sounding like a wino, I’m in here all the time!

Incredible selection for such a small store. Amazing selection of rose’ wines in the summer which makes it one of my FAVE wine stores. Love Marty too — he is an adventurous wine drinker and has helped to expand my palette as well. Would highly recommend this wine store.

Great selection of wines and liqours. Particularly good European wines. Service bit hit and miss. They clearly dont like people who come with grocery bags and they will ignore you if you do! But once you get their attention they are v knowledge and helpful.

Don’t let the small size fool you– there’s an overwhelmingly awesome selection of wines packed in that tiny storefront. I keep coming back for the excellent Burgundy and Rhone selections, in particular.
The prices are quite fair, and the staff has been excellent and approachable. They also keep a lot of Champagne cold for impromptu celebrations, which is a great touch.
