Definitely my favorite Indian restaurant! The food is fresh and they don’t exceed with spices. Is a very elegant place and very well decorated. The only thing I miss is the old dish ware, it made it look more old fashioned and traditional when it came to serving food

Not even close to the best Indian food I’ve ever had but probably the most expensive. I also wasn’t impressed by the fact that naan and rice must be ordered separately. We ordered naan and roti and both tasted burnt, and our waitress seemed completely dumbfounded whenever one of us asked a question. Overall just not a great experience and would recommend finding a better Indian restaurant in New York(my friend and I also visited a South Indian restaurant in Jackson Heights called Samudra and it was fantastic!)

Food was delicious. Just be aware you need to order rice and bread separately from your meat, which unfortunately drives up the price a decent amount.

Came for dinner. ordered just chicken biryani, it was horrible. No taste of biryani. It was more of Tomato Rice mixed with chicken pieces. Very far from being authentic. Request to all these so called Indian restaurant owners to stop selling such dishes under Indian food. Highly Not recommended to all Indian food lovers

18 $ for this buffet? You got to be kidding. People never go to this place. Better go to durbar

Decent sized place given the location. Came here for the New Year’s Party which sucked by the way, no food provided except a couple of snacks after shelling $ 120 bucks.

Being an Indian I am a huge fan of Indian food. Not a single place has gone which hasn’t been tried by me. But BOMBAYPALACE has failed its hype. The reception was very rude. Went at 930 and was rushed all the way till we left that the kitchen closes soon. Cons– many! Expensive, small servings, bland, bad reception. Pros– its in the city.

I know good Indian food and I know when it’s not good or let’s say subpar. For a restaurant to be expensive one would normally expect more… Like better quality food, better service. I did not get that. I would of went to a cheaper Indian restaurant if I knew I was going to get the usual lacking service and food. It wasnt until the end of my meal that I got disgusted. Both my friend and I wanted to take the rest of our unfinished dishes home. The waitress proceeds to take our food as well as the dirty plates at the same time. Completely unsanitary but that’s not even the icing on the cake! She puts a dirty plate on top of my plate of food that I wanted to take home! Wtffffff who does that?! I tell her once again I wanted to take that home she says don’t worry I’ll give you new rice. I did not just pay $ 64.00 for some F$!&!n% rice. I will not go back to this place again! I’ve never been so disgusted with a restaurant until I went to this place and that’s saying a lot. I wish I could give them zero stars but the drinks were at least good. Fortunately I can get good drinks from a lot of places.

I recommend Bombay Palace if you are interested and have a high tolerance for spicy food. The hospitality and service was beyond extraordinary. The waiters personally serve you the food onto your plate, which is a rare scene in New York City. We ordered the Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Vegetable Biryani, Chicken Biryani, Naan and Vegetable Samosa. Thankfully, they were all great. The Vegetable Samosas were quite large and heavy for appetizers. The food was tasty but unbelievably spicy! The after-effects were not as decent as the taste of the food though.

I was with a large group for dinner. I didn’t expect too much but 1. the service was worse than expected and 2. the food was better than expected. The dishes were OK. Chicken Tikka Masala was decent but not flavorsome enough(which was odd). The curries, chicken and lamb, were only mildly spiced — must be catering for the tourist for who has never had Indian food?

One of the only Indian places I’ve been to where I can truly say all the food was good. I would hope so, since the prices are pretty high. A meal with no drinks for four people came to about $ 120 here — pretty expensive. I have to point out that I never been to an Indian restaurant that charges you for rice. Normally your entrée comes with rice or naan, and if you want the other, you pay extra for it. The idea of not including rice with an entrée strikes me as being rather cheap, which is funny because this place is obviously trying to be an upscale Indian restaurant. Service was spotty and needs some work. They were very attentive during the meal(took our orders quickly, brought the food out quickly, etc), but the wait staff took forever to refill out water glasses and a long time to bring out the check. Like I said, the food was great. However, there are many other Indian restaurants in the city I’m eager to check out, so I probably won’t be back to Bombay Palace given the service/prices.

Came here with my aunt for dinner one night. Food was simply mediocre. Best part of my meal was my Mango Lassee, which tasted like it came from a bottle(wasn’t thick enough). I ordered chicken tikka massala. The rice was so so so terribly bland. Didn’t taste like Basmati. My chicken tikka masala was not even hot! It was on the cold side! Gross! My aunt ordered Lamb kabob, and the waiter assured her they had it. He comes back with lamb kabob alright, except it is not shish, but rather ground lamb packed with spices and cooked on a skewer. Not not good. We ended up dropping $ 80 in total for this mediocre food. Will NEVER go back again.

Came here for the weekday lunch buffet($ 16.95!!!), and was thoroughly unimpressed. First off the interior varies between 1960’s New York Chinese restaurant on the main floor, while the upstairs resembles some kind low end Asian gangster night club /hostess bar. Food is thoughtlessly prepared using the typical Sysco type ingredients, while the service is at best indifferent and at worse completely absent. Perhaps this is the punishment one gets for thinking good food might be found at a buffet. Never again.

Went here on a Tuesday for the lunch buffet with a coworker. The place was half empty, which I should have taken as a precaution, but for whatever reason did not. The buffet itself was really good — a solid selection of stuff, and everything was really tasty and fresh. So why 3 stars? The price($ 15.95 for a lunch buffet is kinda high). Clearly this price was used for their staff, which seemed to have nothing to do. Perhaps they weren’t expecting a slow day, but oh well. There were a ton of hosts and servers who seemed to be wandering around aimlessly, which really wasn’t something I minded all that much, except that we had to ask for our check several times.

My friend had a $ 25 certificate so we stopped in one Tuesday night. It was rather empty when we first got there but definitely filled up as the night went on. We started with the vegetable samosas which were actually rather unremarkable. The filling was a bit lacking and they were greasier than I would have liked. However, things definitely picked up with the main courses. My friend ordered the paneer(always a solid choice) while I got an eggplant dish. The portion sizes were huge — my friend was able to take leftovers home from both dishes. Both entrees were flavorful and I had to stop myself from eating more than I should have. We also ordered naan and rice to accompany the main dishes, both of which were good. The naan was fluffy and not too greasy. Service was good as they kept our water glasses full(a necessity when you’re eating spicy food). They didn’t give us any problems with the gift certificate though they did mess up the bill when they tried to take it off. When I pointed it out though they corrected it. Oh, and they charged gratuity which I thought was very odd since there were two of us. I guess that’s just their policy. It didn’t bother me since they pointed it out but just in case they don’t, keep your eyes open for it.

My family and I have been going to Bombay Palace for years. Every year when we would come into the city to see the Tree, my giant Indian family would saunter over to Bombay Place and sit down for a giant Indian meal. We’ve always gone back because the food was always solid. That’s hard to say for some Indian restaurants, but Bombay Palace has always really been that tasty. Their menu has always been extensive and we’ve never really gotten bored of the subzis, paneers and curries. Most of the dishes, like the paneer makhani, do a great job of being just savory and creamy enough, and rarely ever venture into the territory of Indian food where either one of those elements take over. The breads are great, although this last time our bread basket was specked with a rather odd looking naan stuffed with some bright pink substance which we later determined to be a carrot halwa of some sort. What? For the most part the food is great. The space is also large and decorated with décor reminiscent of an old world Indian palace, with large paintings of Maharajas and dancing women. It’s fancy enough for a business meeting or a family outing and casual enough to come in after a day of playing tourist. Why am I not rating it higher? The service. We were surprisingly disappointed this past visit, where our party of 10 sat around entirely too long waiting for essential items– a refill of water, some extra chutney, dessert, on a night where there yes, were other diners, but the place was far from full. There was even a moment, after the 4th time we we asked for chutney, where our waiter told my aunt to «Just Relax». Now, that’s not so cool. Frustrated, we let it go, but the rudeness was noted. We’re just giving him the benefit of the doubt and are hoping that he was just trying to be «cool» and not sassy. We also ordered a rather large round of coffee at the end of the meal, which never materialized, but left without making a stink because we were, in all honesty, there for far too long. My other peeve? They charge for rice. In my honest opinion, rice should be a given. Always. Maybe they’re just tightening their monetary belts and are understaffed? I don’t know. Chances are, I’ll be back, again after another year sauntering to the tree with a large family unwilling to hike a few more blocks in the cold, but I’m hoping that the next time our service will be a bit more positively memorable.

Took my friend who is very fond of Indian Cuisine for lunch here. We were late, tried the lunch menu after 4 in the afternoon. We started off with the Samosas which were tasty but one could make out that weren’t fresh. With a restaurant I expect them to cooked fried and made fresh. Tried Panner Tikka masala and Dal Makhani with Garlic naan and Onion kulcha. Panner was exceptional but dal makahni disappointed. The sevice exceptional and servers were very attentive.

The food was great. very tastey. the service was amazing. i went a little before the normal rush, and was one of 4 tables in the place, but trust me, my water stayed filled. It did get a little strange when i realized that there was a Unilocal checkin offer for a free glass of wine, that i tried to turn in.(they took my phone and disipered for like 10 min… buuut i got it back, and got the free drink!) I will say this. the food is awesome(chicken tiki masalllllllllaaaaaaa, nom, nom, nom, drool) but it is waaaay over priced. the chicken tiki masala was priced at like 20 bucks, i figured this included rice and possibly na’an. nope. that was just for the dish. rice and na’an where extra. oh, also the veggie pakora app was very good as well.

This review is not about the food it is about the K Lounge: Kind of cheesy but cute. My company reserved the lounge area, so this is not a typical review because it was a Tuesday night and the Lounge was not occupied by everyday patrons. The bar was too small for such a sectioned off venue. I think that it has the potential to be a chill location, but there needs to be an upgrade in décor.

I had a buffet lunch today. I did not have any expectations but the food and service turned out to be pretty good. The variety of the buffet is a little limited compared to other Indian restaurants but the curries were tasty and had some spice which I enjoyed. They have the best milk based desert(kheer?) — not too thick and sweet and I was very impressed. Bombay Palace does not compare with Chola or Darbar but I was a happy customer and would definitely go back for the weekday lunch buffet. 19 points on Zagat
