This is my favorite steakhouse in the city. The staff is old school professional Everything here is hearty and substantial. The crab appetizer is fresh & delicious. Ive been here on different occasions with business colleagues, friends and my Mom. My favorite is the rib-eye. This is your place if you want an excellent(not cheap) NYC steakhouse experience.

Had dinner here last night with a group of girls. It’s a traditional steakhouse but certainly not at the top of the list in New York City. Upon entrance the gentleman saw that we had reservation but because the whole party wasn’t there(we were early) we weren’t seated. There wasn’t a great place to wait. The small bar off the entrance had folks drinking so couldn’t have a seat. It was kind of a bummer. We had steaks, which were good, but my steak wasn’t cooked to order. I asked for a medium rare steak which came out somewhere between a medium and a medium well steak. Bummer. We ordered a 3 pound lobster to share to make it a surf and turf, the lobster was very well cooked. The wine. My friend ordered a Malbec which was«meh» at $ 75/bottle. I looked it up, 89 points(meh) that sells for $ 14.79. I absolutely get the backup, but come on, but a quality stark house should serve better wine for that kind of price. I didn’t love the service, it didn’t reflex service you experience at an upscale steakhouse.

Solid steakhouse experience in the middle of midtown. Great baked clams and a good selection of oysters to start. And the reason for coming here doesn’t disappoint because the ribeye is on par with some of the best in the city.

I’ve been coming here for the last 8 years for work lunches. It is consistantly one of the best steakhouses in the city. They have the best filet mignon i’ve ever had. I’ve also had some amazing seafood dishes here. Prices are a little expensive where they don’t need to be($ 16 for a very basic house salad). I’m not a huge fan of charging a lot just because it’s «a steakhouse». That loses one star… otherwise everything is excellent!

Delicious porterhouse. Seriously if you go here, don’t get anything else on the menu, unless you’re a regular. Probably once of the best I’ve had. As a side dish we got the fried zucchini and onion combo, meh. It wasnt phenomonal… Only reason it’s not a 5 star is because it was ovvvverly crowded, couldn’t even talk or be heard. Do not go during lunch and dinner rush hour!

Have been here for dinner 3 or 4 times over the past couple years. The food is rather good(note: there’s something about the preparation that I personally think makes it feel a bit richer /heavier than similar dishes at other establishments) — I’ve had steaks /filets, which are consistently cooked properly and very nicely prepared, and veal, which was quite tasty. They have a large wine list to choose from, and cocktail drinks are pretty strong(which I consider to be a good thing). The major drawback to Bobby Van’s is, in my experience, the service. The waiters here(1) seem to have a bit of arrogance /attitude about them, and(2) seem to act rushed, and then disappear for long periods of time, even when it’s not that busy in the restaurant. In summary: Certainly not a bad place to dine, and if you go you’ll get a nicely prepared and tasty meal… although the service leaves something to be desired, and for the price, there are superior options in Manhattan.

Very busy place. Went with a friend and had a drink(they pour a very generous drink). Food is good, Steaks done to perfection. Service a bit spotty(had a bit of trouble getting water refilled). Otherwise good.

Waiter stopped to ask orders every 2 minutes. Was very rushed and awkward. Other gentleman serving was very nice by comparison, friendly but not overbearing Steak was not medium but medium well to well done(no pink), mashed potatoes were good. Overall was not impressed and will probably try another place over returning to Bob’s.

Some time ago myself and a friend met up with my cousin to go to lunch. She works for a law firm on Park Ave and she suggested Bobby Van’s. I had never been there so off we went. There wasn’t a huge lunch crowd it was just right. The atmosphere is very nice and warm and friendly. The menu is very nice and I ordered a Cajun steak sandwich and macaroni and cheese. The food was excellent and the wine was nice. I’m interested in tasting there dinner menu as that looks very good. Overall it was a positive experience and can’t wait to go back and taste even more. All and all its a great place with good food I recommend this steak house

After a crazy scheduled day, Im glad that there were plenty of different reservations times available. To start off, we were starving and went straight for the entrees. Before the entrees arrived, we ate up almost all the bread. The bread basket had a nice selection of different breads; it wasnt the typical BS slices of bread served at most places. It took pretty long to prepare our food, but that was expected, considering everything was prepared either medium well or well done. My rib-eye was delicious. The meat was nice and tender; not to charred. Unfortunately, there was a lot of fat on it. I would say about a fifth of the steak was fat. It was still a good steak though. My boys enjoyed their sirloins. No problems there. The mash potatoes and hash browns we ordered were good but nothing to brag about. The mash potatoes stood out a little more because you could taste all the butter it was prepared with; but it’s size disappointed me because when we ordered, the waiter made it seem like it was a shareable for 3 people. In reality, a toddler wouldnt have been satisfied. I felt like the waiter couldve checked up on us a little more, but he was ok. Overall, the décor was nice. Its in a prestigious area of midtown manhattan. I would definately recommend this place for an anniversary/romantic kind of date, but later in the night. I’ll be hiting up the other Bobby Vans throughout manhattan

I went this place with friend of mine last night. It’s Monday night and the place wasn’t packed but I felt we were rushed by staff. in the middle of our wine, conversations and nice meal the waiter was already came by and asked what deserts we should get. I’ll give 3 starts for the porterhouse only.

Nice affordable place to eat… if you’re an oil tycoon. Came here for a girl’s night dinner last summer. The staff, both hostess and waiter were professional, friendly, helpful and had a great sense of humor. We began with a great basket of bread and each got a margarita. The margaritas were pretty small, but very strong. After we finished the drinks we contemplated on getting a second one, but ultimately decided not to. THANKGOODNESSWEDIDN’T! The margaritas(we found out upon receiving the bill) were twenty dollars each! But, who cares! We’re a group of Rockefeller descendants, $ 60 for three drinks is nothing! Wait… what’s that? We’re not Rockefellers? We’re three teachers on a teaching salary? Oh… well this is awkward then :/I’ve been all over the city and never paid so much money for one drink. Drinks aside, the meal was incredibly good and well worth the price. I ordered the medallions of beef bordelaise. Incredibly tender, juicy, and flavorful… melt in your mouth good! We got sides of creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. Potatoes were amazing! Spinach was a bit funky tasting, almost had a perfume like taste? The ambiance was nice, but typical for a steakhouse. Dark, polished wood, almost an upscale«pub-ish» ambiance. Overall, a good night and excellent meal.

Been here a few times now with clients and we love this place! Not only are the steaks cooked to perfection, most of the seafood is excellent as well! Tuna tar tar is one of my favorites. The scallops and the shrimp entrees are great when you’re not in the mood for meat. The service is excellent and every waiter we had has a great sense of humor.

Tried their prix fixed menu and it was very good. Their prime was delicious and mashed potatoes were one of the best, however, it is expensive compared to other prix fixed around the area. Had a great selection of wine and the waiterwas extremely friendly.

I really wanted to like this place more than I did, however I’m still glad I went. I had the rib-eye, medium rare,($ 53) as well as a green salad $ 15 and grilled asparagus $ 14. While the foot was very good, it wasn’t great. For those prices I would expect great. The steak was delicious, and was delivered to my table more medium than medium rare, but thanks to the ridiculously hot plate, was close to well done about 15 minutes later. It was an excellent cut however, and still very flavorful. I went on a Friday night at about 8:30 and it was empty, however that’s midtown, and not a reflection of the establishment. I felt welcomed by the host’s greeting, and while the wait staff provided prompt service at all time, there was no warmth in my interaction with them, which kind of threw the mood a bit for me. This is just my opinion, but I would have rather paid $ 20 less for a 16 — 20 oz steak as opposed to a 32 ounce monster cut.(Although I found a grateful homeless guy to give the leftovers to.) I would say experience it once because… it’s Bobby Van’s. But once is enough. Enjoy!

Not only is the food amazing — but the service here makes you feel like you’re eating a dinner with family. Claudio and Louie are the Kobe/Shaq, Lebron/DWade, Matt Damon/Ben Afflack of wait staff. Perfection.

For all the steakhouses that are clustered in the Midtown area, Bobby Van’s is a standout when it comes to a blend of quality food, service, and vibe surprisingly. The«stuffy air» that often intimidates and deters many from enjoying a meal at steakhouses will find BV to be a pleasant surprise. This particular location resembles that of a speakeasy yet retains the traditional décor and ambiance to appeal to business professionals and non-business patrons alike. P. S. — The burger is excellent!
