Wow, staff isn’t really good, waiter is super bad, cheap food at an outrageous price. I will make sure to never come here again. Please don’t make the same mistake

Avoid this place if you’re looking for an average dining experience. What was listed as avocado as an ingredient in the Cobb salad appeared as pre-made guacamole with questionable freshness. The bread on my daughter’s panini was so hard she could barely bite through it. Our waitress never asked how our food was, and we had to flag other servers down to refill our drinks. Not only was the food mediocre and the service poor, it was overpriced. We had 2 salads and a panini for 3 people and one soda. Our total was $ 80 for lunch. This place only survives because of the long lines of the neighboring good restaurants in the area.

This is my 1st one star in a loooong time. These guys are making a killing as «bottom feeders» of the detritus of Carnegy Deli across the street. As far as I can tell, their sole reason for existence is to suck in all the tourists who don’t want to wait in the line over there. In a city with so many excellent gems hidden away everywhere, this place is a disappointment. We ended up here because we were hungry, on a time crunch, and had to be in the area for a function. Shame on us for not checking Unilocal before we ordered. Pastrami sandwich was dry and surprisingly small for the price. I suspect Boars Head. Wife’s pasta looked good, but was so bland that salt and pepper were ineffective. Don’t get me started on the bill. Incredibly overpriced, even for a tourist trap. I do admit the service was acceptable, although calculating the tip based on the inflated price was painful. I’m chalking this up as my restaurant mistake of the month.

Don’t do it!!! We went here because Carnegie line was out the door. Should have waited in their line. Potato latkes were bad. One of the plates they gave us for the lattes was dirty. Pastrami was disappointing. Cole slaw was horrible. No one came around to Re-dill drinks. If you are looking for good deli, don’t go here. And, we know good deli food!!!

The worst omellete I have ever ordered! Is it burnt fried egg?! I was wondering… No taste at all, so gross. It is very pricy for what I got. $ 16 for this??? Oh, well! I just want to cover my food, say RIP! Don’t come here. I am telling ya!

Worst place in NYC. If I could give negative stars this place would be my first recipient. Paid with cash and the waiter never returned. I am guessing he wanted to make sure he got his non deserving tip. Should have looked at their rating first(1.5 stars)

The worst dining experience we have ever had in NYC. Cost $ 50 for two for basically inedible food. Avoid at all cost, buy a couple of candybars instead. Enough said. Had worst club sandwich and awful potato pancakes.

Very glad I didn’t check the reviews first. We had a fantastic Ruben and a wonderful pastrami on rye. Service was great. It’s on my list of great NYC delis.

This has turned out to be the worst place I have ever eaten at. I pray no one has gotten sick in there, Awlful everything, Food, service, and prces very expensive, The owners would not take my call when I called the place to talk about my experience. Run from this place, don“t walk. The Carnegie Deli was so, so, much better. I hope it closes soon. Tom

Dis. Gus. Ting. I suspect this place stays open due to cast offs from the line at the Carnegie. My husband’s ice water had lemon seeds and lettuce in it(we did not have lemons in our water). The bagel my $ 22 lox was served on was rock hard and stale. The coleslaw my mom was given was rancid. They asked if we wanted cheesecake. Hah. No way.

Went to this deli because Carnegie was full. I’m glad we went before checking the reviews, because if I had I would have been scared off by all the 1-star reviews. We had a good experience. I had a pastrami sandwich and my wife had the motza ball soup. Both were delicious! Service was so so… It was speedy but not very friendly.

Had a show at the Carnegie hall so stopped here to get some food, the service was really fast and the food was great … Their cheesecakes are the best one I ever had… Our servers name was khan, who had a very welcoming personality(greeted us with a smile). Gona come back here for some more cheesecakes :)

Why didn’t I check the reviews before eating here! One of the worst dining experiences ever! The server was very nice, but young, foreign and inexperienced. We ordered the Matzoh Ball Soup to start @ $ 10 I was expecting a delicious soup — it was flavorless crap! Then came the second course a Cobb salad @ $ 21 dollars… I’m in NYC2 – 4 times a year for work, but even I thought the price was high. I took a few bites and the Avacado was rancid. When I complained the manager said there was nothing they could do because I ate ½ the salad! Do yourself a favor there is a delicious little place Café Oliviero that rocks across 7th ave. between 54th and 55th eat there :)

NOSTARS!!! oh sweet ever loving Lord, where the heck do i start with this hell hole? i swear i wasn’t drunk when I voluntarily walked into this place, and I don’t know why I just didn’t walk across the street to carnegie deli, but I have no excuse for the mistake and trust me I paid for it. THISPLACEISDISGUSTING. my pastrami sandwich, which BTW was placed on a bed of old wilted spring lettuce, was so old, dry and RUBBERY, I couldn’t eat it. my pic is the whole sandwich pulled apart just trying to find a piece of edible pastrami, but it just wasn’t possible. and if that wasn’t bad enough, they gave me an old cup of coleslaw that was probably passed around to a hundred people before me. the cardboard cup was soggy, warm, and the coleslaw was brown. why didn’t I mention all of this to the waitress, you ask? I would’ve if she bothered to stop by or even look my way when I tried to get her attention. In the end I decided to just throw in the towel and get the heck out of there. oh, before I forget, if the food & service wasn’t bad enough, you don’t even want to go near the restrooms. to get to the ladies room I had to walk past a bucket of water from a ceiling leak, then I had to walk into a smelly, disgustingly filthy room. also, the toilet was so low I felt like I was sitting on the floor. bottom line, stay miles away from this disgusting mess. this joint should be shut down immediately!

Don’t walk past this place– RUN! If we hadn’t had the one-two punch of subzero wind chills and a line and the recently reopened Carnegie Deli across the street, we would have consulted Unilocal before we sat down. The crummy reviews are right, service is terrible and food at any bodega is much better. Our $ 18 pastrami sandwich was at least 1⁄3 fat on bread one would normally find in a discount ghetto grocery.

Mala atención y casi $ 20 por una grasosa hamburguesa. El mesero se enojó por la propina después de que su atención no merecía ni $ 1.

This place is great. They were friendly and welcoming at the door. I felt like I was in a neighborhood eatery. Everyone was nice, glad I enjoyed my cheesecake, and service was timely. Everyone appears happy working there. They also appear to have been employed there for a while. Now, about my slice of cheesecake! It was so creamy and not too sweet. I think it’s got Junior’s beat hands down. If you like your cheesecake on the slightly lighter side, this ones for you. I wasn’t left with a sickening sweet taste in my mouth. I am not sure the flavor of what I had. He said it was Reese’s, Butterfingers, or Snickers? I really don’t think he got the name right. It didn’t matter. The flavored part was just along the top. It did have a tiny bit of fruit taste which I’m not a fan of. The actual cheesecake part made up for everything. Creamy and went down smooth. They have plenty of seating. From the looks of the food I saw they give huge portions. I’m going back for lunch! They take credit cards too. They also have a bar. I’ll definitely be back to try another flavor of cheesecake. It would be great when I’m in the mood for chocolate. They have a German Chocolate flavor of Cheesecake. A slice will set you back $ 10.89 with the tax. It was well worth it!

Stopped in here for a snack after Central Park, had 2 pieces of cheesecake and an order of the cabbage rolls. My wife *really* liked the cabbage rolls. The cheesecake was just OK, very light and creamy, not overly sweet, but I expected a little more flavor to the raspberry-lemon piece. The service was OK, but the place was almost deserted, so the wait staff didn’t have a lot to do. Nothing to make the place stand out from the nearby competition, hence the 3-star rating.

Yuk. The husband got steak and eggs. He said the steak was grade D canning meat. I agree it looked gross. I got the lox and eggs which actually were OK. We had a nice waitress, but the food was not exceptional.

1.5 stars after 400+ review??? sounds about right! Several things wrong here: 1) Wait staff were totally disinterested when my family and I walked in 2) Waitress was completely aloof while taking my order, only half paying attention 3) The food was awful. My wife got a pancakes, eggs, sausage. Can’t really do anything bad to pancakes and eggs, but the sausage was lousy. But let’s get to the real point here — this place bills itself as an authentic NY Deli. I ordered the Corned Beef sandwich. The corned beef was so overcooked it was actually BROWN(I’ll post a pic) and chewy. This was about as far from authentic NY Deli fare as it gets. I can get corned beef this bad in California. I usually go to Katz’, Carnegie(was closed for renovation), or Brooklyn Diner for my corned beef or pastrami — but I gave Ben Ash a shot because it was HOT, I was pressed for time, and it was close to my hotel. Never again. This place is awful and they ought to shut their doors for good. Don’t eat here please!!! Don’t give this place your business. If you’re not from New York and want that authentic NY Deli experience… this is the LAST place you should try. Go to Katz/, Carnegie Deli… heck in Lindy’s down the street is a better option. Avoid this place at all costs.
