I was so excited to come to Bellismo. I’ve wanted to get my hair done here for several months after admiring Jennifer Rose’s work on Youtube with Taren Guy. ATMOSPHERE: It was tiny cozy spot in NoLita near the heart of SoHo. GRADE: C CUSTOMERSERVICE: I arrived a few minutes early. I was SO excited to get my hair done. When I stepped inside, it was awhile before a staff member greeted me. Bellismo does not have a receptionist. Another staff member alerted Jennifer I had arrived. She was still working on another person. She did not greet me. She did not apologize for running late. She did not tell me how long it was going to take to finish up. She did not ask me if I was in a rush. It was as if I did not matter. A common thing I’ve experience when you go to Latina and Black salons is the lack of regard for customer service. OVERANHOURLATER she was done with the other client’s hair! We made small talk and I got the sense that she did not like her job and would rather do something else. GRADE: F STYLING: Jennifer began working on my hair after she put the other client under the dryer. That was first time she greeted me when I sat in the chair. About ½ hour to 40 minutes late. She detangled, trimmed and styled my hair into a protective style. I have to say it’s the most gentle any one has been handling my hair my entire life. I was amazed. Even though it seemed she did not like her job, Jennifer is quite knowledgeable. GRADE: A OVERALLGRADE: C–
