I tried the truffle fries, ehhh, tasted normal, I think regular fries taste better, maybe it was the truffle oil used. Coughed up 9 bucks or this, I think there are better options for 9 dollars but maybe this is food that goes with beer

When a friend suggested that we grab food and drinks here after spending some time at Lunasa(right around the corner), I instantly remarked that it was a good idea. I had a good experience the first time I came here two years prior, with the cozy and dimly-lit atmosphere, great music, and tasty food(from their neighbor Hop Devil Grill). Great back area for group seating as well. My second time here was well-worth it as well ever since I started getting into«craft beer.» A wide range of Belgian-style beers(I had the Allagash Black), coupled with the continuation of the three factors I mentioned earlier, made for a great time. Only con are the prices — that beer was $ 9.

Great low-key place. It’s not hip or a poppin place to be on the weekends, which is why it’s great. Ashley and Katie are the best servers and bartenders in NYC. They remember everyone, and treat you like you’re their best friend. Drinks are great, and not expensive. The food is decadent and makes you sober up, which is good and bad. I got the poutine, which was just raunchy in the best way possible. I was drunk scooping gravy with a spoon at one point. I’ve had it sober so I can verify that they’re actually good. If you ever are wondering where to take a big group where you aren’t trying to party, but want to go out and sit around and drink, this place is great. They always have room, mostly because there is a lot of couches, not because its dull. I’ve only had good nights here.

Had a glass of Ommegang Hennepin, as the other taps were disabled, and we wanted fries, but we were denied even though the kitchen was supposedly still open. We sat up front for some St Mark’s people watching.

I was making plans to meet someone for a roommate interview, and she asked me if I knew of any places that served craft beer. I didn’t, but since I had Belgian Room bookmarked for reasons unknown, I suggested we meet there. Atmosphere: Apparently, this bar is composed of two separate spots. Euro pub in the front, ‘Murrikan sports bar in the back. The front bar is very intimate and dimly lit, not to mention the music is quite low, so it’s very easy to have a conversation without shouting(at least during happy hour, I am sure it’s different during the weekend). The back section tends to attract the sports-loving douchebro types. We stuck to the front. Service: Quite friendly. Our waitress, Ashleigh knew her beer, and was able to serve us both what we liked(and for me I was just like«give me something sweet»). Food/Drink: There wasn’t much in the way of tap variety, but the bottled selection is quite vast. The beer is a bit on the pricey side($ 8 for tap, $ 10+ for bottled), but that is to be expected since they are imported from Belgium. But the upside is that the tap selections are half off during happy hour(weekdays until 8p). The frites were very good. Fried to perfection and with the right amount of salt to give it flavor. And in pleasant surprises, we happened to be there on a Thursday evening, which means that frites are absolutely FREE from 8 – 10. You can get as much as you like, with as many sauces as you wish. I tried the curry ketchup, while my potential roomie had the horseradish mayo. The curry ketchup was pretty unique, but I preferred the creamy tanginess of the horseradish mayo, while my new drinking pal preferred the ketchup, so we ended up swapping. Unfortunately, I didn’t end up with a new roommate, but I do have a happy hour spot.

Came here with a friend for happy hour on a weekday last week. The weather was AWFUL, which might explain why the place was empty, but that suited my friend and I just fine, since we wanted to catch up. The bar started filling up later on in the evening, but those folks missed out on half-price Belgian draught beers! They had Golden Monkey on tap, which happens to be a personal favorite of mine. Had three of those suckers and a few shots, courtesy of the amazing bartender who kept us company. Obviously had to take advantage of the fries — which come with your choice of dipping sauces — these are legit Belgian frites. VERY satisfying with some beer in your belly! I highly recommend coming to this place. The atmosphere is warm — charming and intimate. The space isn’t huge, but it’s definitely the«right» size for a bar of this nature. Lighting is normal(not dim), so I wouldn’t call it a romantic hideaway — it’s a great place to take buds, friends, and groups of people, etc.

Solid place for low-key weekend/weekday nights on St. Mark’s. It’s never really that crowded, which is pretty great if you have a big group. And the décor is slightly nicer than that of Hop Devil Grill(its sister bar), but beer selection is slightly more limited. That being said, you can simply walk over to Hop Devil for non-Belgian beers through the walkway in the back. One of my biggest qualms though is that they don’t include sales tax in the drink and don’t round to the nearest dollar. So if you pay with cash, they’ll give you change. I paid $ 8.71 for a draft, and they gave me the 29 cents back. Um, thanks. C’mon son. Gotta say though, $ 9 is a bit much for an Allagash White. Also, not really Belgian either. I will say though, $ 5 Fireball shots are a pretty good deal. And if I’m not mistaken, they have that everyday, all day. I’ve only ever been to Taco Tuesday here, so I’m not sure about the rest of the food, but seems like it’s solid. Anyways, while some of the bartenders are friendly and attentive, the weekend nights I’ve been at Belgian room, the bartenders generally have a lot of attitude or are incredibly attention-seeking, which is really annoying when you’re trying to get a beer. I have to say, in general, the waitstaff at both Hop Devil Grill and Belgian room are generally very inefficient, which is pretty annoying. But if you’re okay with just ordering drinks at the bar, it’s not as bad. Overall, come here if you have a big crowd and you’re looking for a relatively low-key night. If you can help it, come here on a weekday night, since you’re more likely to get better service.

I really like the beers here. Also has a good happy hour deal for both beers and food. Chris, the bartender really knows his beers as well. My bf used to love going here for the burger before we moved. This place is never packed and it’s great for groups. Also has a great counter at the front window for people watching. I also came here for a low key Halloween outing and had a great time. There’s usually no waiter service, but they do have them when there are events and if they know it will be a packed night.

Having«Belgian» in this place’s name is an insult. For a place that has Kwak swag all over its walls, it sure would be nice if they, you know, had Kwak. But they didn’t. No Kwak, no Westmalle, no Rochefort, no Maredsous. You call this a Belgian bar? Only Belgian on draft was, um, Palm. Meh. When we asked for beer menus, our server told us they don’t have 2⁄3 of the beer on it so it would be just easier to ask him. Come on, man! Then we opened the food menu — tacos and burritos? Really? This place is called The Belgian Room, right? Ok, look, it’s not a bad atmosphere. We had a good time hanging out here, but that was after getting over the initial disappointment at the realization that this place falls way way short of being anything resembling a legitimate Belgian beer bar. If you don’t care about that, and just want a solid place to hang out, then this is fine. It probably would have gotten four stars if they just simply would’ve been stocked with the Belgian classics.

Until about 4 months ago this used to be my favorite E. Village bar. They had great bartenders, great beer and a great crowd. Then they sent their best bartenders packing and quit caring about the beer. Most nights only one or two taps are even pouring, and then it’s just cheap domestic beers like Sam Adams. The fridge, which used to have an amazing selection of hard to find Belgian style beers is now mostly stocked with the likes of Stella and Hoegaarden. What used to be a great bar is now just another fratty E. village dump, except more expensive.

***Five Stars!*** I had a little birthday thing on Thursday with about ten ppl, my friends all loved the fries and the beers(the girls loved the raspberry one) plus the staff was super friendly and accommodating! They didn’t give us the«No you all must be here before we can seat you» that you get at many other places, really everything went smoothly from beginning to end! The lemon wings and shrimp avocado salad were good too :) It’s def a place we’ll go back to!

Excellent beer selection(I always love Golden Monkey on draft since my time in Philly), super friendly and knowledgeable bartender(must have been Chris based on the other reviews), and free Pommes Frites on certain days. It wasn’t crowded on 7pm on a Thursday evening but was hopping by the time we left at 10pm. The burgers and tacos sound amazing, so I’ll be back for those.

Great spot on St. Mark’s in East Village/Alphabet City. I went with friends on a Saturday night and was pleased to find that it was not very crowded. We had no problem getting a table and service was great. I was also a fan of the laid back, casual atmosphere. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The menu included a variety of appetizers, burgers, salads, sandwiches, tacos, and burritos. The menu definitely had more variety than I expected. I got mac and cheese bites($ 9) which was on the menu as an appetizer but the portion size could easily be considered an entrée, while my friend enjoyed 2 chicken tacos($ 8). I was also impressed by the beer selection. Draft selection was diverse with about 8 different choices. In addition to drafts, they had a great selection of about 30 bottles which included more than just Belgian brews. Prices ranged from about $ 7-$ 12 for bottles and drafts, which I would say is pretty standard. I also have to say that I loved the music selection at Belgian room. I love going to bars where I hear everything from Radiohead, to Modest Mouse and Top 40.

Very varied selection of beers at this bar, which I believe used to be Hop Devil back in the day, no? The place is spacious — just when you think you’ve reached the back, there’s a little hallway, bringing you to another area of the bar. It can be slightly difficult to get to the bar, especially during Happy Hour, but the cheap prices for craft beers makes it worth it. Not too shabby!

I had a vision of love, and it was all that you’ve given to me, dear Belgian Room. With apologies to Mariah Carey*(and, in truth, SHE should be apologizing to the American public in general), I had a vision of love, and it manifested itself in reality in the Belgian Room. What a great spot. I had an excellent experience here. Great beer selection(though I’d love to see more on tap) but the bottles were awesome. I was able to get a wonderful Dieu de Ciel beer which I’d had at their place in Montréal. The chicken wings were juicy and delicious. The sliders were very good and the frites rocked. I recommend getting the curry sauce and the horseradish sauce, then mix them a little. So good! The place is clean, crowd is non-douchey and the bartender was cool. You treated me kind, sweet destiny and I’ll be eternally grateful, Belgian Room. _____________________________________________________________ * remember how innocent she was in her pre-skank days? but who told her to wear that awful body suit in this video.

This place is one of my favorite’s along St. Mark’s. Even on the weekends, it is a quiet and cozy corner on an otherwise busy and crazy street. It’s nice and dark and just has a drinking-good-beer feel. Small number of taps, with a decent bottle selection. The beers get a little pricey, but that’s to be expected with the dubbels, trippels, and generally very Belgian menu(but doesn’t the name of the place tip you off?) I believe happy hour is half-priced drafts, but I could be wrong. Also, there are pomme frites, which you can get free in one of two ways: come on Thursday between 8 and 10, or check in with two or three friends on foursquare. And there’s food from their sister bar, Hop Devil(which is right next door). The bartenders are great, especially Chris(who is there Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays), who is friendly, talkative, and a great recommender of beers. I’ve never been let down by any of his suggestions, or conversations. He treats his customers well.

We went to Belgian Room for a casual Friday night, and it did not disappoint. They have a little red book of allll the Belgian beers, and it’s definitely a decent selection. I had some Torrontes; all the wine is under $ 10/glass. They also serve food from the Hop Devil Grill next door, which is pretty standard American bar food, and ranges from $ 9 – 16, so it’s a great value. I got a 5-alarm burger(guacamole, cheese, jalapeños, chipotle mayo), and it was satisfying, and on a huge puffy bun. I had a side of chipotle mayo with my fries, and it was amazing too. All about the dipping sauce. The atmosphere was comfortable, not too loud or boisterous, not overly divey, and the waitress was friendly. My only complaint was that there was lipstick on my first glass of wine, and that’s just gross.

So I came here for a friend’s birthday, and of course, I saw pics from Pomme Frites up on their page. I thought that was strange. What does one have to do with the other? So I asked the waitress dusring conversation, and she scoffed and said she had no idea why Unilocal reviewers put up those pics. Two different places, two different owners, people! The fries are their own, not shipped or hand delivered from Pomme Frites! Of course, I was somewhat embarrassed bc I’m a Unilocaler and we just lost credibility right there. Jeez. I just realized were like the Wikipedia of reviews. Ugh. Anyway, as for the bar, they make their own fries with different dipping sauces that can cerainly hold their own against Pomme Frites. They also have a whole list of beer and other fine drinks, and the atmosphere was very intimate and casual. I enjoyed my time there and my non-Pomme Frites fries. Can we get someone to take down those pics of Pomme Frites and put them in the place where they belong? At Pomme Frites?

My friends and I meant to go to Bua for my bday drinks but the place was super jam packed that we decided to see what else was around. It was then that the neon«Belgian Beer» caught our eyes and like moths, we ventured towards it. The place is well sized with seating areas in the front and back. They serve food but we were there for the beers. I have no clue how much the drinks cost as my friends were treating me to much Lambic Framboise! It’s a casual-whatever-laid back place that is a nice place to hang out. I prefer the ambiance of Bua but they have a major space issue so Belgian Room is my go-to spot when I can’t be bothered rubbing elbows with unknown hipsters.
