Bed-Stuy Fish Fry

Horrible service!!! The cook and cashier are having a argument right in front of the guest. I had to leave the restaurant to get my own change, because the establishment had none! Very very very unprofessional. To make matters worse, another employee who appeared to be a manager, attempted to solve the problem at the register. Wow I love the food here, but this place is a absolute disaster. They need an entire new staff, who are knowledgeable of conducting a business.

I was in the area and wanted to try this place for awhile. Today, I decided to finally get this place off my bookmark list.
Strike 1: I enter the store and all four employees are on the phone. I wait about 20 seconds, then I begin to just start talking, because it’s apparent her social media page was more important than her job.
Strike 2: after finally getting her attention, I inquired about a menu, she tells me they don’t have one. As she is telling me the food options, she doesn’t even look up or give me any eye contact because again, her social media page was more important.
I shouldn’t just crucify the cashier because the store had four employees and all of them were on their phones and seemed hesitant to actually do their jobs. The cashier then decided to send another employee to pay a bill for her or something. Either way, it was extremely unprofessional and rude service.
Strike 3: The overall condition of the store is porous. It’s a small store and I understand space is limited, but all I see are the side dishes, a deep fryer, and a plethora of dirty pans. I did not see any fish or seafood present and I wonder where it’s actually stored and if it’s fresh. The sole positive I saw was they cover up the sides with plastic.
Strike 4: although they have a sign saying «no cards» I didn’t see it. When I attempted to pay, she looked at me like I was a dunce instead of just saying «sorry, no cards». Luckily, I had cash on me because I typically don’t. Lastly, when my food was done, the cook sloppily put the food in the bag sideways and it could have opened and spilled out.
Clearly customer service is not on the too of their list, but the food itself was only ok. I ordered whittling fish (comes with four pieces) which was well seasoned and the best part. It comes with two sides. I chose Mac and Cheese and Yams, neither were that great, but not bad.
Overall, this place needs employees that actually care about customer service. Even if the food was great, the crappy service would make me not want to return. I may try one of their other locations in the future, but probably not this one.

Me and my sis decided to stop here for some food. It’s extremely small and take out only. I had the catfish and Mac and cheese. The fish was extremely fresh and not oily. It could have used a little more seasoning by the white sauce they provided made up for that it was good and have the fish a nice taste. The Mac and cheese was regular I have had better. My sis said the sMe thing for her dish, she has grilled chicken along with the Mac. I will visit here again but prob the one in bedstuy.

So this spot originates in Bed-​Stuy, my neighborhood, with one in Clinton Hill and downtown Brooklyn as well. My mom brought takeout from here, it was around 6:30 pm and a lot of chicken had run out. We ordered some fried shrimp, Cajun fries, and fried whiting. The food was alright, comparable to Crown Fried Chicken, but wasn’t very fresh by the time it got to our house. A bit on the cold side too. The shrimp were a little too fried, and the whiting was pretty bony. Chicken was mediocre. I was disappointed because this is supposed to be an authentic Brooklyn joint with classic food. Fun to try but I don’t think I’ll come back, not a fan of too much fried stuff.

I used to love this location on my lunch break the food is good but sadly I won’t be coming here anymore. The New staff is so rude (a bunch of females who don’t want to be there, and roll their eyes when you ask one question), and now apply restrictions to when you can order certain meals. I used to get the small chicken dinner which is the perfect amount of food for my lunch break. But now you can’t order the Meal on weekends, after 3 on weekdays, and no free drink with the order. Everytime I went I just ended up leaving in frustration. Bed stuy fish fry won’t be seeing a dime from me anymore.

The service here has totally went down. The girls that are taking orders are not friendly nor
wouldn’t kill them to smile it’s only 12:21pm wtf are you mad about you haven’t been open that long. You order the lunch special have to practicality beg for your drink. smh no wonder half of my Co workers don’t want to come here anymore

I love fried fish and this place is really great. The food is not greasy and very delicious. I had all fish dish which comes with 6 pieces and it was more than enough. Also try their buffet foods. Very good. Definitely recommend bed-​stuy fish fry.

I stopped by around noonish expecting the lunch rush and that’s exactly what I walked into. The line to order food was practically out the door and there was another line equally as long for people who were waiting for their order. On top of that, people who called in to place their order had to come in and give their name to the cashier and of course wait on line for their food. Just a crowded and crazy mess in a small space.
As for the food, it was very good. I had the fried shrimp dinner that comes with two sides all for $ 13. The shrimp was good and I got the Mac and cheese and collard greens sides. Both were good but the Mac could have used just a teeny ‘bit more seasoning on it. All in all, the meal was tasty and satisfying. I would def recommend coming here if you have the time and patience to deal with the crowd.

This has to be one of the most ratchet places to go and get food. The staff always has an attitude and then get upset when you reciprocate the same energy on to them. The first time I came to this location they messed up several orders and also forgot to give me one of my orders. They had an attitude when I called back to let them know.
They don’t accept cards, cash only! When you place an order online it gives you the option to pay by card, but they didn’t let me know this until I got to the location with no cash on hand. I was forced to go to the ATM to pull out cash.
This time around I tried to call ahead and the person who answered the phone hung up on me. I stood there for 20 mins waiting on my order which was never told to the chef. When I asked how much longer for my order the lady ignored me. Then the lady asked for my ticket to start preparing my order (the sides) while looking directly at my order she gets the order wrong. Then gets upset because I asked for a separate container for my food as the first one had sauce from another side. Then she tells me I have to wait for the BBQ, I asked how long would I have to wait and they said another 20 mins. They were all upset because I asked for a refund and to cancel the order since I was on lunch and had to STILL wait, walk back too work and still find time to eat before my break ended.
They also don’t have anything to drink here other than look aid. There is one menu from the original location that they all follow and is pretty misleading. They are very disorganized!
Contrary to all the negative things stated in this review the food is A1!

The two stars are mainly for the portions, they are very decent with that. Collard greens were too salty, mac and cheese had lots of black pepper & the whitings were dry and had no seasoning.

Had a taste for catfish so where else would i go besides bed-​stuy fish fry. I always get the same thing every visit; catfish dinner, mac n cheese & yams. Upon opening my plate i see the mac n cheese looks different than usual (like kraft mac n cheese) bite into it & it dont taste how it usually does its blahh. Same w the yams. My greedy self is sad lol. Wondering if there’s a new cook or my tastes buds are immune to it now.

What can I say I love this place, oh the best part of my experience was the Manger Donna. She was super nice and treated our party so well. DONNA THANKX FOR THE EXCELLENT SERVICE.

Before today, I would have given them a 4. This place serves decent food, it’s cheap and close to the office. Usually come here for lunch and get the same thing: chicken/​meatloaf, collards and sweet potatoes. The chicken is underwhelming but the meatloaf is good and the sides are delish. I went in today however and got th BBQ chicken wings. They were undercooked, completely pink on the inside and uneatable. Had I not had work to do, I would have brought it back to them. Thanks for the salmonella!

This place is the worst went there later night around 10 pm the light skin girl behind the counter was rude disrespectful customers were asking for the small and her attitude was we don’t sell small you have to take the large that’s it unprofessional didn’t have on gloves saw mice droppings on the floor she’s rule obnoxious other customers was noticing and trying to explain to her if you don’t have a sign saying you don’t serve small or medium at a certain time you need to have it posted. she didn’t want to hear that she said you going to take what I give you is the large or nothing. I’ve went to many
Business establishments. This WAS horrible
she shouldn’t even be behind the counter then I watched another patron say I will pay you extra just to give me a couple of piece of meat she said I’m not giving you nothing you take this and we not allowed to give you extra meat even if you paying for it now me as a consumer I would think that’s better for your business somebody going pay you extra money to get one of two pieces of meat she must be young but don’t know how to have hospitality skills she should not be working in a place like that sometimes down the worst customer service ever after this I’m going to report this to the New York City consumer advocate. Yeesh. This small store caught my eye after some grocery shopping at brooklyn fare. I love fish so I thought I’d stop in and get something light. Unfortunately I didn’t because there were fails all over the place.
Cash only in brooklyn heights? Massive fail.
Sour puss and lackadaisical attitude on the server who did not greet me and acted like it was a chore to explain the prices, show me the container and just interact with me generally. Not a great first impression. Massive fail.
(oh that reminds me, there’s no board showing the prices or meal deals, just a small menu taped to the counter where you pay. total fail)
$ 6 for the smallest container that is supposed to hold 2 sides and a protein. So basically you get a sample size of 2 sides and protein because not much food will fit in the small contaoner. Fail.
No actual fish in sight in the food disaply. Isn’t this called fish fry?
Shop is small and looks kind of run down. Fail.
I love collard greens and sweet potato but the sweet potatoes looked like they were full of sugar and t he greens looked full of oil (of course I can’t say for sure because I didn’t taste it). This is not healthy food at all.
I probably won’t return based on my first impression. From the other reviews it doesn’t seem like it was a rare experience.

This spot is vey small BUT the food is ohhh soo good. This was my 1^st time eating here. I purchased the fried fish dinner.
6 pieces of whiting fillets. WELL Seasoned, fresh and crispy.
Mac n cheese… I’m usually picky ordering Mac n cheese because some can be dry and tasteless. BUT this was on point
Candied yams… OMGOODNESS that was sooo good (I should have ordered another scoop).
My dinner was $ 10.00 NOT BAD.
I noticed they had Kool aid on the menu. I haven’t had that in years. I wanted to go back to memory lane with the red kool aid but they did not have any so I got pink lemonade instead. I was not happy with my drink. Just didn’t taste right to me… I WILL DEFINITELY be back to try other dishes and I hope they have kool aid next time.

This was the first time I’ve ever been there, I must say, I’m going back!.the food was Awesome. the price even better. I definitely recommend it.

I ordered chicken wings and fries and the Bf had the Tenders and Fries. The fries are really good and well seasoned. The hott sauce is really good. Homemade? Idnk… Now here comes the disappointment. The chicken Wings were soggy as heck and the tenders were burnt. And I mean burnt… I would have returned the food but it was late and idnk… Returning food just sounds tacky at 9 in the evening … Oh the Kookaid is sooo yummy! I might try them again. In hopes that it was just a bad night?

RUDE… RUDE…AND MORE RUDE!!! I will NEVER again come here. I was excited to try this place after a co-​worker mentioned that the food was pretty good and whom also complained to me about the poor attitude by the staff, especially the register lady (same person I had my experience with here).
There is no reason I have to spend my money here to be treated as if I was an inconvenience to the staff, and it wasn’t even near closing time. The food was good, but SURE wasn’t worth the bullshit here. I can easily find someone else to throw some dead fish into some hot ass oil for me… really, its downtown Brooklyn, not Montana where the next fish fry is miles down the road.

The food here is absolutely awesome. The lines at lunch time are out the door and it is worth it. At times the ladies taking the lunch orders have a little altitude in their attitude but you can move past it. I do find that of the 3 Bed stuy fish fry’s they give the largest portions.
But I have noticed that since the one opened on Fulton Street that they close earlier and refer you to Fulton St which is a bad move. Because of closing early and the referral to Fulton St they lost a star and because of poor management at Fulton St they lost another star. If you have the time and patience you will not be disappointed.
