I have never seen a greater difference between 2 acts – the first act is wonderfully funny and interesting – the second is boring and dominated by the 2 worst performers in the cast. If it gets to Broadway, there will need to be a major rewrite of the second act.

I saw a great play yesterday at The Public Theater called Barbecue. I bet most people looking for«Barbecue» in Unilocal are not thinking of the play but really I hope they run into this review and maybe inspire them to go see this great play written by playwright Robert O’Hara. Robert O’Hara is one of my favorite playwrights now. His writing is smart, relate-able, hilarious, felt like it was written from someone’s personal experience. I love the writing in his current play, Barbecue. The play is excellent because IMHO it flowed wonderfully. All I know is I laughed very hard and was so pleasantly surprised by all the twists and turns in this play. The play is hilarious. The second act funnier than the first. Tamerla Perry in her crisp white suit in the park in the second act is freakin’ hilarious. The character Tamerla Perry played in the second act does remind me of a current very famous singer that I will keep to myself. If you see this play, I think you will come to the same conclusion. I can’t talk much about the play or it’ll ruin it for whoever reads this review. I recognized Kim Wayans right away I love Kim Wayans. I used to watch Ms. Kim Wayans in In Living Color. In short, what I am able to say is this well written play is about a family who stages an intervention at a very public park during a barbecue party for their sister who is hooked on drugs and alcohol. Act one is the intervention and act two is a prequel to the intervention. I don’t believe I gave away too much in my synopsis. The play is at The Public Theater from September 22 to November 1, 2015. Please don’t miss it.
