Bar Six. Saludos, I. Anecdotario: 1.

It’s cute. I stopped in here for a drink on super bowl Sunday while waiting for a friend to arrive from jersey. It’s the only real bar in the area, however it’s more of dimly lit date spot. I was looking for a tv which I did not find but also, just a cold beer which I did find. The place is cozy and inviting. I believe the cuisine is French but as I stated I only came in to have one drink while I waited. I would come back here again if in the area for a drink based on the atmosphere alone, but also I’d like to try the food someday.

Very good service. Drinks are OK. The Moroccan Meatballs are delicious and great French Onion soup. The steak and truffle fries are underwhelming. Would go back for happy hour.

What a perfect spot to set the mood for a casual weekday date night. In fact, it was a Monday, and the pre-Tuesday dread had died by the time we settled down in the cozy corner booth spot of this cute little charming French bar + restaurant. The adorable decorations are reminiscent of a very down to earth bistro on the corner streets of Europe(and yes, I’ve lived in Europe before). We made a ressy on OpenTable for 6pm shortly before making our trip down from midtown East and got there about 5 minutes past. We were seated promptly. We started off with a bottle of Malbec. The waitress was a bit overzealous in getting our orders down. I don’t like the feeling of being rushed and I’d be more than accommodating if I saw a huge influx of patrons here, which wasn’t the case. I’ll ignore it this once :) The food was good. Skate fish was well cooked and so was the chicken. The chicken was a bit dry, but the veggies were well cooked — definitely could’ve done better with a slow cooker method than this. The mashed potatoes made up for the dryness but. sheesh — after our chicken at Hendriks on Friday, this paled in comparison. The seasoning on the skate fish was on point — a whole lot of pepper but it was one of the best skate fish dishes I’ve had. When the pepper was placed on our table, I looked over at my dish and was like, «really? MOREPEPPER? The plate is practically black at this point. «welllllll. I put some more on — I think I started a pepper obsession here. Make sure to review the daily specials which is a small one page menu with a black frame. The specials on the day we were there didn’t fit my dietary restrictions, but I’m sure others would appreciate it. The dessert menu looked great but we were stuffed — but crème brûlée, I’m coming back to devour you! This place would be even awesome if they offered live jazz on certain nights. Anyway, I’d come back because it’s casual enough to just grab a few drinks, dinner, and it’s only a block to the PATH(which is why I bookmarked Bar 6 in the first place!)

This place rules. I always know I’m going to enjoy a great meal, great wine and great service every time I come here. The atmosphere is laid back /slightly upscale bistro. I think sometimes they have live music at night but don’t hold me to it. Good spot, consistent and pleasant. I always order the steak frites because it’s awesome.

One of my go to brunch places that thankfully isn’t swamped on weekends. The eggs benedict are amazing, they have lovely fresh orange juice and the moroccan chips are delicious and spicy. The décor and ambiance is really lovely as well – the restaurant was actually featured in Julie & Julia!

Really cute place and good food too! Came here with a couple of friends for brunch and it was very good. I enjoyed the eggs benny a lot. We also got a French Toast for the table and it was good too.

Have been coming here for 15 years. It’s unchanging reliability as a neighborhood stay put overs a sense of familiarity, with great food that spans the Mediterranean. Check it out.

What a great little bar near the 14th Street PATH station! I love how cozy it is in here and how the host let us sit at a table for drinks even though he knew we were on our way to dinner. That made me want to come back again to try the food next time. Until then, this is a solid place to grab a drink before dinner.

Bar Six had such a cozy, warm and romantic atmosphere. It was comfortable and one can go there dressed very casually, but it is still a nice restaurant. There are candles on all of the tables and cushioned seats and also wooden chairs. I ordered the chicken and replaced the mashed potatoes with the truffled fries. For desert we shared a crême brûlée, which was so delicious, and I can definitely recommend both things that I ordered. The portion size was larger than I had expected. The waitress was attentive but not overbearing. The food was really good but you can find«really good» food everywhere in NYC. This place isn’t going to blow you away like a trendy new sushi place in Chelsea would. However I’m giving them five stars because the warm atmosphere(plus the fact that the food was delicious) made this place such an enjoyable dining experience for us.

Okay I loved this place, and I might be a bit biased because I was soooooo HUNGRY when we came here I could have eaten anything but really it was great. We had a duck confit w/kale and goat cheese salad for an appetizer and two amazing chicken entrees. Every single bite was so tasty I was in HEAVEN. No complaints about the food really you’ll be so pleased. Also, really like having the choice of picking either French and Moroccan food. The ambiance is great. Cozy, dimly lit, and really intimate. It can get a bit loud bc it’s always PACKED but that’s fine. You know a place is great if it’s usually busy :). Overall, great experience and I totally recommend it! I would give the full 5 stars if the waiters were just a tad bit friendlier! Service is everything to me and definitely part of the experience. If I only see my waiter twice for 2 seconds each time and don’t even get a smile it takes away from having a complete positive experience. But that’s just me being super picky!

Why Why Why? On the hottest day of the summer, would you purposely turn off your air conditioning at the height of your Sunday brunch service? Why? Three out of the 6 of us didn’t bother to finish our meals just so we could get out of there after bringing the situation to the attention of 3 separate employees to no avail. The table of two seated next to us also departed abruptly. The food in general was ok. The Lobster Benedict had less than a teaspoon of finely chopped lobster«essence» divided between two English muffins halves… don’t bother. Their biscuits are buttery and so delicious. Service here is always pleasant despite the sauna snafu. We will be back in cooler weather,…but I know they lost 4 customers today forever. PITY.

Nice ambience. Sat outside on a lovely night and enjoyed their Bar Six lemonade and oysters. The lemonade was fantastic — thirst quenching while having just enough of a kick. Oysters were pretty good, maybe could have been a bit fresher. Great staff, great live music, and great Parisian atmosphere.

I love the ambiance here. Very french(or as french as I would like to believe!): laid back but somehow very posh, quiet without being overwhelmingly scary quiet. I loved it here! They have a great selection of cocktails — I doubt you can go wrong with any one of them. If I see risotto on a menu, I must have it. I know risotto is notoriously simple yet difficult to make, so I believe it is a pretty good judge on the quality of the cooking in general. The risotto was DEFINITELY on point — LOVED it. My friend who came ordered the chicken and they certainly loved it as well. I would be happy to come back here to try some more of their entrees. Great place for dinner and also just for drinks.

Went for lunch today. First of all a great ambiance. Ordered the Salad Nicoise with tuna. Finally a real salade niçoise in Manhattan. Bravo! Will be back with French friends soon.

The ambiance is all-out French. They even used this place for several scenes(purported to be in France) in «Julie and Julia», as well as a romantic scene in the Sex & the City HBO series(«the first bite of a good burger… with Berger»). Somehow that is a plus, even though you didn’t know you cared. This place is my corner joint. It’s where you do brunch. It’s where you have that daytime lunch meeting or meet up with friends. Some of the menu is downright excellent. And they have all the current newspapers and magazines laying around, a good wine selection, low-key friendly but laid-back service(although it can be mixed), window seats and cozy sidewalk tables, and a French menu. It never fails that when I sit at a sidewalk table, everyone I ever knew happens to walk by. With their dog. Its that kind of place. Un-pretentious, but stuffy enough to keep out the riff raff. Expensive but worth it. A great place to meet friends after work or — better yet — a romantic drink with someone special. With the addition of the Jade Hotel around the corner, and D’Andrea’s Italian across the street from that, it is like a pocket of European elegance and good food in the Village. And in a neighborhood where bars and restaurants come and go on a daily basis, its nice to see that this place has survived a long time now. It’s the kind of place that completes the neighborhood.

The food was great! I dropped my fork and before I could even look around to ask for another one the waitress was already standing there with another! I just wish there was a little more light to read the menu.

I met a friend here for dinner on a Thursday night and boy, am I glad I made a reservation because every table was packed! This place is poppin’. The host was friendly, but wasn’t at the front of the restaurant, and it took me a few minutes to find him, which irked me. We were seated at a loungey table, and it took a while to order, so I think we pissed off the waitress because she gave us a TAD bit of an attitude. Understandable though… We started off with a dozen oysters, each of which is $ 3. A bit overpriced, especially since they’re the smallest oysters I’ve ever seen! I got the mushroom risotto, which was very good, but so heavy and creamy, too much in fact. I felt like molasses afterwards. I’d suggest they ease up on this dish(or maybe I’m a weakling and couldn’t handle it?! Idunno). My friend got an appetizer, the Mediterranean salad as her main, which looked and tasted good, but, again, was super overpriced. The bill came out to $ 90, which was not worth what we got. I’m pretty sure that the oysters, appetizer, and entrée could have been found elsewhere for better quality and half the price. Meh, not impressed, wouldn’t return.

This place is super cute! I came here for a date night, and it had a perfect, not-too-crowded, not-too-bright atmostphere. In fact, I made a reservation for 7 pm and the restaurant never got more than half full the entire time I was there.(Slightly puzzling.) The artichoke and mussels appetizers were both amazing. I could have just eaten more of the mussels as an entrée, and seriously considered it. We tried the bisteeya, as others suggested, and while it was a great surprising array of flavors, I’m not sure I’d actually want to eat it the whole while because it had such a strong cinnamon/raisin flavor. Fortunately, we also got the shrimp on couscous. Not many shrimp, but definitely fresh and flavorful. The cocktails were interesting but nothing mind blowing, and as others have mentioned, it was sometimes hard to flag down our server. We fortunately didn’t have any outright hostile interactions — she was perfectly pleasant — but it did border on neglectful. We ended on the delicious crème brûlée, which was quite worth the $ 6. Overall, this place was cute and a good experience, but not a place I’m raring to come back to. Good if you’re in the area and want a more«laissez-faire» dining experience.
