The arroz y gandules taste just like my abuelitas. Everything taste down home and authentic. Extemely friendly atmosphere — I almost fogot I was in Manhattan. There is no other choice for Puerto Rican food in NYC.

I’m gonna give it 3 stars for the great outdoor space and the décor. I felt like I was in PR. The service was… a little slow… like I was in PR. The food was OK, Ive had better. I will say the arroz con gandules was almost, almost as good as my mami’s not quite. The bacalaitos?.. hands down mine are better. It did have an authentic feel like you were sitting in someones house and the server was very friendly and accommodating. The mofongo was good it was accompanied by a great thick gravy, just the way it should.

I recently visited the city aching for Puerto Rican food. I found this place and it was, to say the least, out of this world. I’m both a foodie and Puerto Rican, so I took this food very seriously.
My mom and I ordered a plethora of things because we HAD to try it all out. We ordered arroz con habichuelas and compared to my grandma’s, they came to a close second (and that’s saying a lot.) We also ordered the plátanos maduros that were super yummy. They had just the right amount of sweet taste to them. We had the mofongo con pollo because it would be stupid not to. I’m glad we weren’t stupid, it was insanely delicious. The sauce that came with it was also very good; it almost tasted like asopao de pollo. Last, but certainly not least, we ordered my favorite, bacalaitos. One of the most delicious things to grace my mouth. It was truly flavorful without being obnoxious. What was even better was how everything tasted homemade (because it is) AND it was super cheap. All of that food ended up being $ 17.50 which was good since it was family style.
The décor was your typical Puerto Rican restaurant with lots of yellow tile, brightly colored murals of Puerto Rico, and loud music. The girl behind the counter was super friendly and treated us as if we were family. This place is a must go if you’re ever in El Barrio. MAKE IT A MUST GO even if you aren’t.
BTW, they had a sign that said their credit card machine wasn’t working. There’s an ATM in the convenience store next door.
I can’t wait to go back!

What can I say but Yummo! Would love Bajari to be so successful as to bring their cultural food haven to other neighborhoods. If you’re looking to add a little spice to your life, you def want to go here. Bajari has got cool people, and awesome authentic food. Love their Surullitos De Maiz and Carne Guisada. You can’t go anywhere else in the city to find this cuisine and family atmosphere.

This is a great restaurant hidden in the heart of Spanish Harlem. The food is delicious and the prices are very reasonable. They have things that many other hispanic restaurants don’t have. If you like Puerto Rican food, or are looking for a spot that has that homemade flavor, this is the place for you! Their arroz con gandules tastes like my grandmothers, and their surrullos taste like my mom’s!!! Im telling you, check it out!!!

What a great dining pleasure… It’s as good as it gets when you come to authentic Puerto Rican food… I will be working my way through the menu… Great food, great service, great ambience… No pretense or build up… This has got to be the best kept secret in NY dining!

Bajari is a little piece of Puerto Rican heaven. Lets say you are a person trying to make a nice impression on a first date or you just like to eat great food for a reasonable price. Bajari is definitely the place for you.
It’s got class yet it’s down to earth, small, well kept, and not too many people know about it. If it’s a nice day there are tables available outside for your lunching and/​or dining pleasure.
We are talking about authentic Puerto Rican Cuisine here! Great service! And if the owner happens to be there I guarantee she will make you feel at home! Great choice — Check it out.
