Up a flight of metal stairs, ensconced by diamond merchants, lies a small room with delicious curry shawarma. Must try.

I was disappointed to find out that most of the hidden gems of the diamond district had left. However I was happy to discover this place when heading to El Buen Sabor on the 4th floor, so i came back the following week for lunch. It’s a no frills place with an interesting group of clientel, as I could tell mostly eastern european jews(looked like a mix from Russian to Bukharans)… Theres only about 8 — 10 tables there… The menu is a mixture of eastern european and middle eastern/israeli dishes. I went during my lunch hour around 1pm — the restaurant was busy and only had 1 waitress for all. So I ordered a borscht(which is not veggie here) and lamb dumplings, my friend had the snitzel with veggies(its not fried but rather grilled and seasoned). The food was ok, not the best but not bad. The issue here was that there was 1 waitress for the entire restaurant and apparently 1 chef — it took my food a long time to come and then the waitress never came back to bring us our waters — she was nice though and I would say from looking at the rest of the people in the restaurant everyone planned to hang out for a while — while i had only an hour and had to get back. 4 stars go just because its a cool authentic place hidden among the craziness of 47th street.
