This holiday fundraiser sale is terrible, marginal records(but not interesting marginal records) unworthy of inclusion in their auditory Noah’s Ark on sale for max online prices + $ 10. And plenty of garbage for $ 2 a pop that Academy would simply box up and put on the street for free. Yes, it’s all for a good cause. Note to founders, cool you have a relationship with Columbia University — if your archive has real historical value to future generations, you might not want to store such a treasure so close to the city’s financial hub, one radiation event and the whole damn thing becomes landfill.

I love this store; for most of the time I’ve been passing by, it hasn’t been open, but its window hints at the wonders to behold inside. I saw an album by the legendary G.G. Allin – legend has it that he would eat a huge meal before his shows, then get drunk and stoned, and when he was performing he’d throw his excrement at the crowd. Most of his tours ended up canceled after a few shows, naturally. I did get a few choice CDs and even a few pieces of crockery from their sidewalk-sale-esque selection of bric-à-brac. Sadly, the sale to the public lasted only a week, and I’ll be keeping an eye out for when the store is open to the public again.

I stumbled upon this place with my partner and friend. This non-profit group hosts a music library. There were quite a few items for sale: including 45’s. I picked up a few gems including a New York Dolls button. Current director, Bob George including NIle Rodgers and Keith Richards as well as many Brill Building alumni have all helped to preserve all forms of popular music. Check this place out!
