Cheap. Fabulous. Amazing. Dive. This is my favorite bar in NYC, sadly it’s closing at the end if the week. But I have been a regular here for a year, literally fri. The day I moved to New York, I have been here at least once a week. The bar tenders are fabulous people. Be nice to them and they will be nice to you.

cheap drinks, but really not my type of place. The music I thought was horrible, but at least the space is large. I guess you should come here though if your name is featured for the day. If it is, you drink for free.

Have you ever wanted to go someplace where there is a monkey puppet with a drinking problem? I certainly have. That’s why I moved out of Idaho. That’s why I made my way to New York City. All of the monkey puppets in my hometown were teetotalin’ fools. Antartica is one of those rare dives downtown where you won’t feel judged by how un-divey your clothes are or how dive-y they are either; the crowd is always diverse and interesting and the bartenders are the fastest pickleback slingers I’ve ever seen. Let’s talk for a second about picklebacks. Is it trendy? Maybe. Is it delicious? Yes. This place has the best I’ve had — your choice of Jalapeño, horseradish, or regular —(Jalapeño, obviously) along with a great draft list and your standard tall boys of PBR and even Shiner Bock. Beer pong, Flip club, hot bartenders(Hi Oana), it’s all there.

A straight bar not too far from my job. A lot of decent specials although you need to review your bar tab. I don’t think it’s anything malicious just that there are a lot of people with a whole bunch of different tabs. A divey place for sure but not so divey that you feel uncomfortable sitting down or going to the bathroom. Put your name down and you may get to drink for the day for free if your name is picked!

Dark bar. Picklebacks. Happy hour specials: $ 7 well drinks. Pool tables. The only thing missing is a photo booth(hint hint)!

came here on a friday night between 5 – 7:30. got packed VERY quickly. dive bar atmosphere but the music was electronic. they have tvs in here and a couple of high tables near the front. NOFOOD. really wish they had some appetizers to nibble on. the drinks were alright. i had wine, no complaints from peers on their drinks so i assume theyr’e ok. the crowd is diverse, which is good. overall, OKAY.

Exactly what I am looking for in a bar. Great for after work boozing. Relaxed, a touch divey, but not grimey. Good crowd and decent prices, especially for Manhattan.

My entire experience here is limited to Mondays to Thursdays from 5pm to 9pm and never any other time, mainly because I have an office down the block and use it as my after-hours«conference room» from time to time. It’s always a busy after-work crowd and with more and more peeps moving into the Hudson Square area(the ridiculous real-estate agent given name for this neighborhood), it is always busy after work. The crowd is an harmonious mix of people in business casual, hipsters, college-y kids and true dive bar types. Other than that, nothing special except for the«If your name is…» special every night, which allows those with the lucky chosen name to drink for free all night. It just so happens that on «Chris» night, I walked into a crowd so big that I couldn’t get near the bar and had to leave. C’est la vie… I once wrote about Doc Holiday’s bathroom and noted that I would rather die than vomit inside. The Men’s room here gives Doc’s a true run for it’s money. A dive bathroom to match the rest of the joint, for sure…

A straightforward bar. Pool table, fairly large space, wood floors. Good place to grab a drink, but was a bit put off by the hordes of early-twenties idiots getting hammered and screaming. Apparently they do cheap open bar parties, which is great for them, but fills an otherwise decent bar with ridiculous post-college dipshits looking to blackout. I would go during the week for a quiet place to drink, but avoid on the weekends. No frills here.

I came for my name night and it was so much fun! We got there around 10 and it was relatively empty. However, most of the tables were already reserved so I guess next time I come back, I may want to reserve a table just in case. Even though they have a large space, it was packed by midnight. The DJ played top 40 so it was pretty good dance music. They serve all their drinks, whether beer or well drink, in pint glasses so be prepared for large sized portions of your drinks. There is a table in the back for beer pong or flip cup. If it is your name night, not every drink is included so make sure to ask. I remember that Jack and Delirium Tremens was not included in the name night

Big drinks for $ 6. That’s all you really need to know. But the atmosphere is cool, it’s a large space, and the people are friendly. I liked it.

All I want in NY is to go to a bar after work and not have to shuffle through a crowd to pay for a $ 9 craft beer and stand while I drink it. This place is what I’m looking for. A spacious, conversation-friendly bar with attentive bartenders and decent prices. $ 6 wines, $ 5 – 9 beers, large cocktails, and plenty of seating. Not much more I can ask for. Also, name night: where you drink for free if your name is up that night. My name will probably never come up, but if you have generic-named friends, this is a great spot to bring them.

I came here after going to a birthday dinner around the corner. I gotta say for a Friday night — it wasn’t too bad. We got here around 1230 at night and we stayed till about 3 am in the morning. They had all the drinks and when I say all the drinks — I mean all the drinks. We even had them create a certain kind of drink that wasn’t on the menu and they were more than happy to help us out. The bartender was also kind enough to give one of our shots to us complimentary since we had also paid for a ton of other stuff. It was very gracious and delicious. They have pool and other fun things to do while you hang out and shmooze and booze with your pals. All in all I’m a fan!

It’s a dive bar. They have an okay selection of beers. There’s a very small pool table in the back(that stopped working halfway into a game. Friends got their money back though). Crowded, disgusting bathrooms, and a bartender wearing sweatpants who refuses to acknowledge the fact that you want to order a drink. Bleh. They don’t charge you an automatic gratuity if you leave your credit card overnight though, so there’s that.

Local dive bar. Do not wear heels. Definitely crash someone else’s party if you come here. They have flip cup and seating areas but this is most definitely a standing bar that appears to get rowdy.

I came here last night for a co-worker’s birthday and had a good time here. This is a dive-bar type bar that is really big and has a long bar and multiple round tables to sit with groups. The music was very good for awhile — playing non-top 40 mix that went well with the dive-bar type, until about midnight when it took a turn for the worst with some ‘nysnc or back street boys music coming through the speakers. I wasn’t staying late anyway, but this helped ensure my exit. They got a pool table in the back, but… where’s the dart board? Dive bars have to have a dart board. Contrary to what other reviewers said, I didnt think the drink prices were high. $ 5 for Yuengling on draft? You cannot beat that at many places. Being from PA, when I see Yuengling on draft, I immediately am put in that much of a better mood to drink. Perhaps if you want to be boring and buy a Miller, Bud, or Michelob you might pay the price for that, but why ever drink that crap if you can have a real good-tasting beer? Location? Kind of random below the holland tunnel entrance, but not too far from the 1/E trains. If you are lucky and your name is on the wall, you can drink for free!

The place is definitely a dive bar. Drinks are not expensive, which is a nice change in this neighborhood. They also have a pool table. I have been here with one other person and with a large group, and it is much more fun with a large group. They have a fun promotion where you submit your name and if it is picked on the calendar they post, you drink free for a night. The bathroom is gross.

The bonus: They let us order pizza from elsewheres and bring it here — we had a lot of Dominos! The downside: Getting drinks took a while. It was packed and we added another 40pp to the top of that, and it started taking some time for the bartenders to reach us. The young lady poured stronger than the gent, but the only complaints during the night were mostly about the uneven floor making it treacherous for those running around in heels(not a problem for my sneakers: P). They also have a «if your name is… you drink for free!» time period during the day during happy hours. And yes, picklebacks.

I usually end up here around 5:30 on weekdays after work. If you get there around 6:30 or 7, it’s packed with young startup folks(not the cool kind), so I recommend going for an earlier day drink. This is a great little spot. Free shot with check-in on Foursquare. Free drinks all night if your name is the name of the day. Also, check out the photo of all the girls and one dude around a table, «cheers“ing. That’s very representative of the post-6:30 crowd. Way to go, Unilocal
