Angelica’s Kitchen offers a nice variety of menu options for Vegans/Vegetarians. I really enjoyed the Lime & Lemongrass Kom’brew’cha, but for $ 6, I expected it to be house made and not a bottled product. The service was good, no complaints. I ordered the Kimchee Avocado Salad. It was good, fresh and healthy, but the kimchee wasn’t spicy and it was more of a radish slaw. I was anticipating spicy cabbage. My friend got the Garbanzo Rancheros, which she said was nice! She’s a vegan, so finding places that have creative menu items for her is hard.

Angelica Kitchen is a vegan restaurant in East Village. You can take any train toward NYU and walk to the restaurant. You’ll know you’re there when you see the glowing green sign and the small green bench facing the restaurant. I came here for Sunday brunch with a friend. First, the restaurant isn’t that busy. There were plenty of tables and the noise level is quite low. The tables are decently spaced out from each other. Second, the brunch menu only has two entrees($ 14.50 each) — a Mexican inspired dish and a veggie platter dish. They also have buckwheat pancakes, some sides like biscuits and their normal menu is available during brunch. Some reviews said their food is bland, and some dishes are, but they cater to those who want lower sodium options. I actually like that they have these options! Angelica Kitchen can get pricey, and sometimes not deservedly so. The food is great and has plenty of healthy and colorful foods that will make your mouth drooooool.

Eh. It’s ok, but not great. I really wanted to like it(the way I’m rooting for every veg establishment in the country). But I honestly don’t even remember what I ate. I agree with other reviewers, the food’s very bland. If that’s your thing though(and I know a lot of people who don’t have tastebuds), you should go here!

I really struggled with whether I should give this place 2 or 3 stars. It was okay, but I would not go back. I eat vegan and love to go to restaurants that cater to vegans so I have a choice of what to order on the menu! I give this place 3 stars for the extensive menu, however, I hate when vegan restaurants rely so heavily on tofu, tempeh, and seitan. I enjoy all three, but I feel like vegan restaurants should showcase produce more since there are sooo many things you can do with vegetables! I ordered the tempeh rueben, which I enjoyed, however, I could have made the exact same rueben on better bread for a fraction of the cost. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their entrees, I was just disappointed with the lack of creativity & flavor in the dishes. Additionally, I was irritated by the fact that this place really seemed to drive a lot of vegan stereotypes that I find hinder the vegan movement from the smell of the place to the attitude of the wait staff.

I was underwhelmed with this Angelica Kitchen. I had a Thai style curry for dinner and an almost tart for dessert, and both were lacking in flavor. The curry also came almost room temperature. The staff was perfectly friendly and attentive, I may have just picked two items that weren’t very impressive.

It’s pretty good. They carry kombrewcha, which is lovely. I got the thai lemongrass entrée and it was delicious. Some things can definitely be hit or miss here, like I don’t recommend getting the sushi because it had very soggy rice or the whipped maple tofu dessert which was virtually tasteless.

The food is bland and tasteless. Got a plate with a variety of veggies(white beans, kale, tofu, squash) and it was HORRIBLE. I think it was called the dragon bowl. How do you screw up a plate of vegetables? We also ordered soup with bread which comes with a spread. The server recommended the ginger carrot spread and it had a weird sweet taste and was not appetizing. The Angelica cornbread was so thick and dense and so unappealing taste wise. It and just absorbed all moisture from the mouth. What a culinary disaster. I will say however, that the soup we got to start was delicious, however it was a soup of the day so they prob dont have it now. What a shame.

Wonderful spot. The addition of weekend brunch has been an absolute game-changer! One of my favorite organic and vegan spots in all of NYC, not just the East Village! Highly recommended! I only wish they’d hop on the seamless or delivery train!

Classic NYC restaurant that is one of the best! Their new brunch menu is insanely good, get the chickpea avocado mash Rancheros plate and the buckwheat pancakes, you won’t regret it. We come here for dinner 2 – 3 nights a week and it will always be our favorite restaurant. You can’t get food this healthy, filling, delicious and satiating anywhere else in the city. Don’t ever not order dessert, they’re all amazing!

I still dream about their Mashed Yukon Gold Potatoes — so creamy. And the gravy flavors are perfect. My partner and I are always sure to visit whenever we are in NYC. It sort of feels like the healthiest food you could eat in NYC. My favorite menu items are also the People’s Polenta & a few of their Daily special meals such as the tamale. I was not head over heels about everything I’ve tried but so far this is my favorite vegan restaurant in NYC. Oh and the vibe is lovely.

My favorite restaurant… I used to come here all the time when I lived in the neighborhood. I miss being a regular, although I do try to stop by when I find myself in the east village. Their prices have gone up a bit since I first started eating at Angelica, but the increases are both understandable and justified taking into consideration the quality of the food, and the absurd cost of running a restaurant in this part of NYC. I have been here so often that there are probably very few menu items I have not tried at this point. The olé man seitan entrée is a hearty staple(seitan and veggies folded into a tortilla with a chocolate mole sauce) and the dragon bowls are a great option for the extra-healthful eaters(a combo of unseasoned basics with a side of sauce). If you are the undecided type, the pantry plate option is a way to order 3 – 5 items from the appetizer/sides menu and build your own meal from scratch. The best dishes in this area are: walnut-lentil pâté, norimaki(a daily special, comes with 2 pieces), kinpira, baked marinated tempeh, and the daily salad special(always good). 4 – 5 items is usually enough food for a complete meal for me! That being said, the best way to navigate the Angelica Kitchen menu is to turn right to the daily specials page and order one of those. They are slightly more expensive, but they rotate every single day and offer easily the most unique meal options, not to mention a fun food pun as a title. At $ 18, the specials are always served with several elements — often a main, 1 – 2 side vegetables, and a dip/sauce of some kind. Many of my favorite vegan meals in NYC were Angelica daily specials. Last but not least, the staff is one of the best parts of Angelica Kitchen. Everyone who works here is knowledgeable about the menu, very responsive, and just incredibly nice. Maybe it’s because I have been coming here for so many years, but I love how welcome I feel every time I show up.

Angelica’s is charming and romantic and their food is very good. It’s healthy and delicious and while you leave satisfied, it’s never in the bloated I’m-about-to-explode kind of way. I love their tempeh sandwich with a side of gravy mash potatoes. So simple yet so perfect. Their desserts(love the daily specials) never disappoint. They now accept credit cards so gone are the days where you scramble to find the closest ATM after remembering they only accept cash midmeal. I took off one star because of their corkage fee. This place used to be BYOB but now they charge $ 15 which just forces you to buy wine from their limited selection.

Angelica Kitchen provided me & Bestie with a healthy, comforting Sunday night dinner. We started with the Norimaki and Angelica Cornbread with Miso-Tahini Spread. Both were awesome and definitely worth ordering again. However, as much as I love both miso and tahini, I would have preferred a different spread for the cornbread. For my entrée, I had the Wee Dragon Bowl(a half portion). I had it come with my choice of sesame oil dressing. It’s certainly a well-balanced healthy plate, but definitely something you could whip up easily at home. Also, it would have been nice if the Wee Dragon Bowl was actually served in a bowl… All in all, we both enjoyed our experience at Angelica Kitchen and look forward to trying new dishes on their vast menu!

I tried for lunch today. It’s Okay. Our waiter is super nice and helpful. However it’s kind of unclear what type of cuisine this restaurant is focused on. I know it’s vegan but what type of vegan? I heard the corn bread is very delicious but they don’t have it come with some dishes. So I might order it by itself next time.

I am so excited about Angelica Kitchen! It is so close to my yoga studio and the space is so comfortable and homey. I love that they ask you NOT to use your cell phone in the restaurant! I brough my(non-vegan) Mom & Sister. Mom was a little bit more open to all the interesting meny options, sister needed a bit more hand-holding. She went with the Old School Marinated Tofu Sandwich and I had a special Thanksgiving-inspired dish with mashed potatoes, vegan gravy, greens and lots more — it was a filling, satisfying meal. We also were buzzing about their hot mulled cider, which was the perfect pick-me-up on such a cold November night. I want to go back and try many more of their options, I have a feeling I will find my favorite vegan meal here one day. Thanks for the plant-based options!

I am astounded and disappointed by the size of the takeout salad I just received. For $ 12 I literally got a few forkfuls of kale. When places like by Chloe are around(that offer vegan food at affordable rates and reasonable meal sizes) it just doesn’t make sense to spend your money at Angelica. Sorry Angelica but your overpriced, small portions are crazy even for NY standards.

After reading all the mixed reviews, I was apprehensive about trying this place. But I have to say, everything about my experience was excellent. We ate on a Sunday night around 8pm. There were plenty of open tables and no wait. The atmosphere was warm and homey, with exposed brick walls and lots of candles around. Our server was friendly and helpful, with just the right level of attentiveness. When I was having trouble deciding between two sauces, he offered to bring samples of each to try. I started with the mixed sprout salad. It was a generous mix of lots of different seeds, sprouts, and other greens that was fresh and tasty. Then I had a combo bowl with brown rice and steamed vegetables(an interesting and unusual variety), with the black sesame sauce on the side. Simple enough, but everything was prepared just right. There are many more exotic things on the menu, which I may try next time. For dessert, I settled on a pear mousse with a sauce of strawberry and walnuts that was scrumptious! Altogether, a relaxed, enjoyable and very satisfying meal.

Such a disappointment and a disrespectful restaurant. We were recommended by some friends, called twice, the night before and about 30 min before getting there to make sure we would get a table. As soon as we got there, we, a party of 8, were treated very disrespectfully, they had a table of 8 and didn’t want to sit us alleging that it was a community table for single parties. We felt very mistreated, I believe it was a very xenophobic situation, since right when the lady at the front door saw we were a big party of foreigners she started to say that was no place for us, even though, I say again, we called twice before going there to make sure we would get a table. The treatment on the phone was nice and completely different from how we were treated in person. We all felt very offended by this situation.

I was very excited to go to this place because some friends recommended it. However, the service was terrible. I called before two times and the hostess said that in 30 min they would have place. I moved from Brooklyn to East Village with my mom on a wheel chair to get there and the phony receptionist said that there was no space for 8 and it was trying to get rid of us. The owner of this place need to change the staff ASAP because the red hair receptionist is rude and disrespectful and worst of all a liar.

It’s a 3 star experience overall. It’s kind of a diner experience in terms of décor, and is expensive. Even a juice is $ 10.00. The entrees are about 16.50−20.00. It’s not worth it and I don’t want to go back again. For those prices, I want real fish and animal proteins, not shredded vegetables and tofu. I was here during dinner hours and my server definitey wanted to turn over the table rather quickly. It felt a bit rushed, and I hate that feeling. They also push the desert menu, even if you don’t really want it.

We ordered the walnut lentil pâté to start. It looked skimpy when it arrived but it proved to be a filling appetizer with a good choice of fresh vegetables. Then I ordered the hot open face tempeh sandwich. The red sauerkraut was good but too acidic for the dish since the gravy wasn’t rich enough to balance it. The bread could have been better too, considering it was supposed to be sourdough. I still enjoyed the meal, however, and liked that it came in small bites instead of one large sandwich. The dessert menu has a great variety of items that changes daily. You are always encouraged to try something new and I don’t think you would regret anything you order. I got the almond shortbread with pears and raspberry coulis. It was delicious. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend the chai tea. It came out near boiling and even by the time I could try it, it didn’t have great flavor. Our server was attentive but also laid back, which is always good when you want to have a relaxing dinner. The restaurant itself is comfortable. The décor(or lack thereof, according to my sister) can definitely use improvement. I do like that each table has a sesame seed shaker. It’s unique and I appreciated the chance to add another kind of flavor to my dinner. Overall, I would return to try more of their food and desserts. And even if you don’t like their main menu, make sure to check their daily specials.

You must go here! Good was great!!! Got the vegan lasagna= most amazing vegan dinner I have ever had! Was it overpriced? Sure. Was it worth it? DEFINITELY! Also got the Kam-BREW-cha tea/beer blend. Was kind of weird but good. Worth a try. Totally stereotypical Vegan New York vibe instead. I overheard other guests chatting about their art exhibits and discussing how to end poverty and promote social justice. I pretty much had a friend crush on every single person there.

The cuisine at Angelica Kitchen displays a complete lack of creativity and soul – when a pile of chopped spinach and a yam, with no salt, goes for $ 20 bucks, we have a problem – but worse still is the service, which is straight up nasty. I get that the hostess is probably going through a really hard time discovering herself at NYU. I used to have a bad haircut, too, ok! But when a party of 6 comes in, and there are literally 5(count em) 5, open tables, and you keep that party waiting for 55 frickin minutes, you have some nerve. I know what you’re thinking: why wait, idiot? Well, sometimes when that friend that up-and-moved to Virginia and and became a vegan(who, despite those two horrible attributes, you still love because there’s a heart buried somewhere deep inside that jaded New York City soul of yours) decides to come back home for the weekend and wants to eat out, you suck it up, asshole. Also, I absolutely got pizza during the embarrassingly long wait-time. Yes, there were still 25 minutes on the clock, where I had to stare at the mean hostess and her stupid cat sweater. At the end of the day, the best thing on the menu is tea – and I’d sooner go for a bag of Lipton’s. As someone who works in the industry, who loves food, and who believes that eating with friends should be a pleasurable experience, lemme just say: this place is completely whack – Bye Angelica!

Overpriced small portions, even by New York standards. The specific dishes don’t matter much. And even their soups are thin and bland. Angelica’s is an overrated vegan restaurant which lingers on due to its legacy and reputation — from the days before vegans had so many great options.

I’m surprised I’ve never written a review for Angelica Kitchen before, as I frequent it a lot! Favorites include the marinated tofu sandwich and the dragon bowls or the combo bowls. Recently tried«that’s a wrap» and it was SO good! I don’t know why I didn’t try it sooner! so delicious. Love the southern corn bread(don’t like the Angelica corn bread too much) Have always liked the desserts I’ve have. Love that this place is healthy & tastes good! They recently added brunch to their menu on the weekends. and seriously.best biscuits ever. the biscuits and gravy is amazing, or even just getting a biscuit with jam. they’re so soft and fluffy. really they’re perfect! I’ve always had friendly and great service here!

Very fresh, simple food for people who want to eat healthy while going out. A friend and I went around 9 on a Friday and didn’t need a reservation. We split the dragon bowl with black sesame dressing, and it was enough for two people if you aren’t too hungry. Also, don’t get the dashi and noodles unless you really like soy sauce. The broth tastes like soy sauce and is really salty.

I usually love all things vegan and I was so excited to try this plant-based place. It’s been on my list for years, and finally went yesterday with my 3 teen kids. The server(a female with curly longish hair and bangs– wish I’d gotten her name) was super unhelpful and a bit rude to begin with. I was surprised but kept thinking she’d get better & tried to brush it off, but nope. Not nice. I’d ordered a 5 item sampler with stuff if chosen, & I wanted to remember each of the(slightly unusual) dishes for my health coach Instagram account, so if asked if she’d write them down for me. She would not be bothered and made a point out of it. The rest of the meal, she rushed us and was generally unhelpful & attitudinal. Bad day? Maybe. The food was meh. Not terribly flavorful or super exciting. Maybe it was the server who also influenced our experience. We have had much better at peace food and candle café and candle 79, to name a few!

They have a communal table and I went for it since I would be seated immediately. Yay! They have daily specials that are posted on their Facebook page. The special of the day can be ordered a la carte or with a choice of 2 basics or a cup of soup. I had the Creamy sweet potato peanut soup with the Enchilada casserole layered with a mix of tofu cheese, roasted button mushrooms, spinach, kalamata olives & cilantro, corn tortillas & refried black beans; topped with roasted garlic cream & served over sun-dried tomato sauce. Accompanied by green beens & chicory, arugula & watercress salad tossed with spicy avocado dressing. Quinoa-amaranth-teff-vegetable croquettes with julienne daikon, burdock and butternut squash; served over ginger scented adzuki bean sauce and sprinkled with hiziki«caviar». Plated alongside horseradish cream, green beans and roasted cauliflower. With a basic side: Parsnip, sweet potatoes & butternut squash and dressing of choice: Black sesame: with wasabi, garlic & toasted sesame oil. Caramel Apple Tart with walnut crust and cardamom custard. The main dishes are quite filling but I couldn’t say no to cardamom. Curried cashew spread is a blend of raw cashews, sprouted chickpeas, freshly ground curry powder and unpasteurized miso, served with crudités(carrots, celery, turnip, watercress). The spread was delicious with the curry flavor. Because they always have a special menu of the day, I would eat there regularly if I could. :D
