Anamaria Munoz, DDS – International Orthodontics

We are very happy with Dr Munoz. She is our child’s orthodontist and has done a great job.

Had a bad experience with Dr. Munoz. After my braces came off, the top front teeth no longer match up to the bottom ones. So if I want to tear open (gently) something with my teeth, I can’t.
To her credit, she did straighten my teeth.
Then, she doesn’t believe in wire bonding the lower teeth to keep them straight. Instead, one gets a most uncomfortable clear plastic retainer to wear for the rest of your life. After a few months, when I would take off the top retainer in the morning, I felt one of my teeth was kind of loose. But I thought that couldn’t be possible! I mentioned it to my dental hygienist who was at a loss. The sensation continued on and off for a couple of years until the tooth’s root broke and the tooth had to be pulled and now I have an implant where my otherwise healthy tooth once was — all because of the ILL FITTING RETAINER DR. MUNOZ GAVE ME. After my periodontist took a look at it, he said it didn’t fit me properly and that possibly I was grinding my teeth and the retainer was making matters worse and injuring my poor tooth to the point of breaking!!!
My periodontist sent me to a dentist for the wire bonding on the bottom, like every other Orthodontist except Dr. Munoz offers to their patients. This dentist also gave me a night guard, for the top teeth (they don’t do wire bonding on the top teeth). But then an upper tooth on the other side started acting up, and my instincts told me that again, hardware was causing injury. So I stopped wearing it and the tooth feels fine again. And my top teeth are not «shifting»! Why? Because the bottom ones are being held in place by the wire bonding that Dr. Munoz doesn’t believe in. And so the top teeth are not moving either. That’s usually how it works.
I regret going to Dr. Munoz. My teeth may not have become straight but I’d still have all of them. And I don’t recommend her at all.

I’m about mid-​way through treatment and very happy so far! She came highly recommended. She took a VERY thorough series of x-​rays and laid out a very clear treatment plan. She explains everything very well and answers any questions.
Her office is only open about 3 days a week, because she is also faculty at NYU dental school.
If my opinion changes as treatment continues, I’ll update.
