A surprisingly delightful restaurant! The nachos were assembled chips, cheese, chips, cheese and toppings. Perfect way to avoid naked chips! Add chicken to the nachos for more taste. The lacquered duck breast was perfectly cooked. The quina was good, and the parsnip purée was executed perfectly. Mac and cheese is hit or miss. It was excellent one time and okay the following visit. I would stop by again if I was in the neighborhood.

Don’t worry about making a reservation – on a Thursday night at 8, Alias had plenty of tables open. The service was excellent … OK our waiter was a cutie, and very attentive but not overbearing. The cocktail list is short, but the tequila/lime/agave drink I ordered with a spicy salt rim merited another taste, so I ordered a second round. The music wasn’t too loud, and there were some tracks that distracted me because they were great choices. However, the food was just alright(despite being Slow Food Snail-approved). There were no, close-your-eyes-and-savor moments. I left my veggie burger half eaten and was really ready to leave by the end of the meal. My date said his pork chops were good, but he didn’t say much more than that. The calamari appetizer was similarly forgettable. If you’re in the neighborhood and you need a place to eat, you could definitely do worse. But it’s not worth making a special trip.

So I went here this past Sunday after attempting to go to nearby Clinton St. Baking Co. I didn’t get to the area until 130pm due to a T-ball game — a time that I hear is way too late for Clinton St. Baking. It wasn’t really in the same league as Clinton St. Baking, but w/a 5-yr-old in tow, it was immediate enough and just fine. After looking at the menu, both the hubby and I ordered the huevos rancheros and a big, fat burger for the little one. I’d say the portion delegation was off considering that the 5-yr-old is much shorter and slimmer than us, but by his standards, it was just perfect. His burger was definitely a nice and filling ADULT-SIZE, and topped w/pickels and cheddar(dressing and onions were ruled against even though normally given). He pretty much devoured 2⁄3 of the burger as well as his entire half-plate of french fries(which were cooked nice and crispy). The other 1⁄3 was eaten by the hubby and I, which we both noted as having really good flavor, texture and size. For the huevos, we both thought that the portion size was good and everything was cooked just perfectly. I’d say that if we lived nearby, it would definitely be a go-to local favorite. Service was efficient and friendly, food was spot on and nicely priced, crowd was just right for a sunday afternoon(full but w/o a wait), and the food was really tasty.

After rejection from Clinton Street Bakery, we aimlessly walk around until we find Alias. What a cute little joint! The décor was not amazing, but I suppose we weren’t looking for amazing, just a place to sit down right away that was warm. Although most of the food was not memorable(coffee wasn’t bad — and free refills!), one thing stood out, and that was their whole grain biscuit! It was amazing! It is what bumped this place from a regular sort of 3 star affair until a full 4 stars. I would come again simply for the biscuits, and this time definitely get more than one. It was so good, it didn’t gravy or even butter!

My friend said she came here last week for brunch and she really like this place. So when we got there, I thought the place looked really homey and open. BUT we waited forever for them to even greet us and write down our name. And we saw a table for four free but he still said give us a few minutes. When we sat down, everything was set up already so I don’t see why they couldn’t have seated us earlier. We ordered our food and it took forever for the food to come. At one point, it was like did they forget about our order?! When the food finally came, it wasn’t even hot or warm. I know that when you’re with a group that they have to wait for the other food to be done but it was just four of us. I ignored it and then my friend finds a piece of hair in her food. We told the waiter and she was nice enough to offer to either take that off the bill or give her another dish. Also, when I went to the bathroom, there were tissues spilling out of the garbage can. Overall, the service was super slow and the food wasn’t even good.

Always have a great time at this restaurant! This time Carol and I took our friends Rasheem and Jessica who brought their friends from Florida also. Yup they loved it! I got the usual… KY Sausage with two eggs biscuit and cheese grits. Soo Good. Carol got the bagel with Lox sandwich which was tasty, but I was hoping she got the ABLT because I was anxious to try it. We got tons of coffee which is always awesome for your daily brunch. I love this place.

came here for a special event with a guest chef, dee dee(?), who did a southern set menu. what we ate– watermelon balsamic salad, fried green tomato with crab salad, pulled pork, and chocolate something. i am struggling to remember all the details of the meal as it was quite a while ago, but it truly was a delicious meal. and such a cool environment where the chef came out and presented each course and told a story about her background and how it tied to the dish. everything was so good and was a perfectly well rounded upscale southern meal. definitely would come back for the event if they do it again. and also want to check out the regular restaurant one of these days.

Once you’ve witnessed the monstrous line at Clinton Baking, come here for a nice, peaceful brunch. The service is great and the restaurant is clean, refreshing, and calming — that’s what we really want from a Saturday morning brunch, right? My friend and I both got the huevos rancheros, with comes with two eggs over easy, black beans, bacon, guacamole, salsa verde, a corn tortilla(even though the menu said it came with tortillaS) and homefries with root veggies. The over-easy eggs were yummy and runny. The black beans looked like refried beans and it took up the majority of the plate. I thought it was pretty flavorless and quickly got sick of eating it. There were only two pieces of bacon, two tortilla chips(?), and small globs of guac and salsa verde. The plate didn’t have much coherence and I just ended up picking at the homefries for the rest of the meal. I would still come back here, though, as the other options on their menu looks great and are hopefully less disappointing!

My favorite brunch spot in the city. Always delicious, inexpensive, huge portions, friendly vibe, local, amazing. I’ve had a ton on the menu, and nothing is bad. Standout for me is huevo rancheros and biscuits with gravy — their biscuits are bomb. So are the grits. And fried chicken. And burritos. And everything else on the menu. Only been for dinner once and that was also amazing — I had meatloaf. Just a great place. Please don’t tell anyone.

So I’m pissed because I took pictures of my amazing brunch at this restaurant and they came out blurry! This is the BEST brunch I’ve had in New York to date. I had the two piece fried chicken with coleslaw, biscuits and honey butter. The chicken was crispy and flavorful without being overly breaded and the coleslaw had large slices of cabbage and minimal mayo. Overall an explosion of tastes! As a lover of biscuits, these biscuits ranked just below the continuing incumbent — John O Groats, Los Angeles. My friend as the brisket breakfast burrito with beef brisket, scrambled egg, guacamole, potatoes, tomatillo salsa and red onion wrapped in a flour tortilla with sour cream & cheddar which was HUGE but looked very good. We finished off the breakfast with a side order of the biscuits and cream gravy with sausage which was rich but delicious. I will DEFINITELY be back. I’ve been there countless times since and it is still just as delicious.

Had lunch here recently. Strayed away from the brunch menu, which I usually partake in. Had the tuna melt. The pepperjack cheese did no justice to it. Needed a sharper cheese. Served with a heartly little mesclun salad. Could have used tomatoes on the plate. Rus got two-egg plate. Simple, good olé standby. My bestie got the veggie burger… the star of which is a panko crusted portobello mushroom… it looked incredible! Why didn’t I get that?! Rus then got the chilaquiles… which he did not realize would be soggy nachos. Upon telling the server that he wasn’t a fan… they immediately replaced it with a breakfast burrito! How nice! As always, service was on point and they didn’t rush us out even though lunch service was well past over. This place continues to get an A+ from me. All that I have left is to try their dinner fare! (Also, they play great music! Arcade Fire!)

I was swayed to come here when I saw fried okra on the menu, but as with the okra… most of the food is a hair short of 4 stars — the flavors are a bit heavy handed but well intentioned. The okra batter was on the heavy side(thickness) and under seasoned but the jalapeño aioli on top was a nice touch. The shredded kale was great except it had too much parmesan on top. The mac n cheese tasted great but the cheese sauce was too runny. My hanger steak was cooked to medium rare perfection but the red wine sauce it was paired with was too intense and overwhelmed the garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli rabe as well. Service was great however and the space is not a bad spot for a casual date/catch up.

I really like this place! The atmosphere is awesome, the server was really nice and helpful. I didn’t love the hummus/white bread to start, but oh well. The calamari fixed that disappointment super fast though. It was very yummy. Not too chewy, crispy. mmm. and the sauce was good! Unusual and creamy — an excellent pairing. The veggie burger was good(so I hear) and I liked the french fries that I stole ;) I had the 3 taco dish, and they were all really good! Not great, but I liked the beef one the best and the fish one the least. The shrimp one was also very good. But spicy beef… I wish I had gotten 2 of those instead… Really good burger, too! The drinks were perfect, grab a drink here for sure! The Manhattan was delicious and perfectly mixed. My Dark & Stormy Ginger beer/Rum drink was equally fantastic. A great place for a nice date without having to worry about being crammed into some tiny corner! Check it out for a fun night.

Four of us came in for brunch on a Sunday around 11am. We were going to the Tenement Museum around the corner later that day, so this was conveniently situated. Among the four of us, we ordered: The Three Egg Chomelette(chorizo, cheddar, chives), biscuit, root veggie homefries($ 9) Greek Yogurt(with honey and sliced apple)($ 9) Steak and Eggs, biscuit($ 13) Huevos Rancheros($ 9) The food was good and the service was really great. I can’t speak for the others but I LOVED the Chomlette(they were a bit heavy handed with the cheese, but I’m not complaining). Loved the root veggie homefries too — thought it was a unique mix instead of your usual potatoes. For drinks one of us ordered the sangria, which was filled with more ice than liquid, sadly. I ordered the coffee, which was deliciously strong and of which they refilled FIVE times(I was in HEAVEN). Our water glasses were never empty and our waitress/waiter filled my coffee in such a friendly(does that sound weird?) way, as if I were a friend rather than a customer. I really appreciated that they weren’t stingy with their coffee. Very reasonably priced, GREAT location, and Alias felt so homely — love it!

It was just after 5pm and already dark out. This told my starving stomach it needed to be fed immediately. So my friend and I walk in only to be told they don’t open till 6. My heart sinks. Damn you to hell, daylight savings time! I had considered going to another place out of pure desperation but I heard the nachos were stupendous so I killed time and boy was it worth it. My friend got the burger. I got the nachos with a side of jalepeno and fried aioli okra. And a piece of key-lime pie. I may or may not have eaten it all. Don’t you dare judge me. Nacho’s were on-point, they were devoured and even while writing this, i’m starting to get a hankering for them again. The dessert was also delicious and even made my friend a fan of key-lime, which I guess he’s usually not. Ambience is nice and dim-lit. Service was good but I cracked a joke to the waitress and she didn’t get it and left that awful awkward«I don’t understand sarcasm» aura. Not her fault though, most people don’t get my humor. I’ll be back, definitely.

Veggie Burger. Does it remind you of your college roommate’s cute but uptight hippie chick girlfriend who decided meat was so completely uncool and insisted that if you were civilized you would try her boca veggie patties which she swore tasted just like beef(but really they didn’t) and which left such a bad aftertaste you get slight tremors at the mere mention of veggie burger ? If so go to Alias. Not only will you get past your fear of veggie burgers you may find that you love them when done right. It’s a panko crusted portobello mushroom stuffed with black beans, queso blanco and topped with pico de gallo and it’s delicious. The panko breading was good but not so dense as to obscure the mushroom flavor, black beans were well seasoned and not too salty and the burger left you satiated without feeling bloated. Truly an amazing veggie burger. The heirloom tomato and watermelon salad was also excellent. Very refreshing and a nice sweet and savory contrast. A sharable dish but so good you probably won’t want to. The pulled pork sandwich palled in comparison. I found the sauce too sweet and the sandwich to be merely a-ok. In the area Georgia Eastside BBQ does a better pulled pork. While the exterior may look old school LES, the interior is contemporary LES. The service is quick and friendly and it falls in that affordable(sandwiches) to moderate(entrees) price range. The rest of menu looks interesting but I know I’ll be back for the veggie burger.

I had breakfast here, with the corned hash, eggs, and biscuits. The biscuits are made there and are unbelievable! The corned hash was a little too fatty for me, am I spoil? I felt my arteries clogging with each bite. However, I did see some other dishes and it looked really good. The staff here were really friendly, aiming to please, that’s always a plus. Seems like Southeners would love this place, I’ll try and update this if I get a round 2.

When you’re sitting in Barramundi, and food strikes your fancy the option will be to order from these folks. Macaroni & Cheese — check Steak Fries — check Mac+Cheese was a bit too creamy for my taste, but the steak fries weren’t bad. Best part is they bring the items over to you from the restaurant, as if Barramundi had a kitchen! Not bad.
