I can only speak for Christine Law who was absolutely amazing. First off, they seem to have the latest in eye examination technology which is a huge plus for me. Christine was VERY thorough in her examination and explained every detailed of my eye issues, prescription, and when I should wear eye glasses. She didn’t just give me an exam and hand me off to a sales person to sell me on the most expensive glasses. Oh, and the glasses they did have were very inexpensive, many options under $ 500 which I can’t say I have seen in NYC as most places don’t want to deal with you if you are not buying glasses under $ 500.
All and all, great experience and I highly recommend her… and I already have to my entire office! Also, I recommend using ZocDoc and completing all forms online, makes for no or minimal wait time.

Dr. Schlussel and his assistant were great and made me feel very comfortable with my exam. However, the experience with the front desk was horrifying. Before my appointment I made a point to double check everything with my insurance and how it applied to Dr. Schlussel’s office. There were many differences between what they had said on the phone and the actual price when I arrived, but I decided to go through with the exam anyway, and just not do the extras at that office. When my appointment ended I went to pay the co-​pay, and they had added another charge for a retina scan that they hadn’t told me anything about previously. I was so overwhelmed with the other charges that I just paid and left, but honestly, is there anything worse than a doctor’s office obviously just trying to make money off of their patients? That’s what it felt like, I will not be going back and really don’t recommend that anyone go there.

Wow. Lots of good 5-​star reviews and lots of nasty 1-​star reviews? What does that say? Well, it typically means people have had really strong experiences (most often I see this in the medical sector where customer service trumps everything).
For me, I had a relatively good experience with Dr. Schlussel. I was seen on time, had a great experience with everyone involved — reception, assistant, Dr., etc — and walked out having booked a return visit.
I walked in thinking about getting contacts contacts (I’ve worn glasses every day for 20 years) and walked out wearing them! Everyone was patient and considerate, having had to listen to my near constant anxiety.
Honestly I don’t get all the negative reviews. I’ve read through them and there are two main complaints — not being seen on time and upselling. To the first point, it’s a Dr’s office. I’m surprised that delays are still surprising. In regards to the upselling. If you don’t like what they’re selling, don’t buy it! Sheesh.
I’ll go back to Dr. Schlussel. I see no reason not to recommend.

Great optometrist, very knowledgable and willing to explain exactly what is going on with your eyes. I booked through Zocdoc and was able to get a last minute appointment very easily. I was seen very quickly and Dr. Schlussel was able to diagnose my issue and recommend a treatment plan. Great experience overall!

Doctor Schlussel was knowledgeable, personable and professional. He greeted and booked me in himself as I was early for the first appointment of the day. He was referred to me by the top NYC Lasik surgeon Dr. Mark Speaker, which is a great compliment in itself (my former optometrist passed away). I will be a regular patient.
I recommend the
booking and registration process for this office — works really well and there’s no paperwork to do in the office when you arrive.

I was sorry to read that the previous posters here had a bad experience with Dr. Schlussel and his staff, as I’ve always known him to be conscientious, thorough and willing to help me with any vision issues I present to him. I found Dr. Schlussel through my employer’s health insurance almost 10 years ago, and while I’m no longer with this employer, I continue to visit Dr. Schlussel every year. I have very poor eyesight, with astigmatism, and Dr. Schlussel has always worked to ensure that I get the best kind of vision correction possible. Unlike previous eye doctors I’ve visited, Dr. Schlussel has never tried to «sell» me on any type of glasses, contact lenses, vision-​correction surgery, etc., even if that means he might not make as much money. He truly cares about taking care of his patient’s eyes, and is not swayed by reps from eyeglass or pharmaceutical companies trying to get him to hawk their products. In fact, he has suggested that vision-​correction surgery would not work for me, which demonstrates to me that he honestly cares about individual patients. I also like that he explains complex medical issues to me in plain English, so that I know exactly the type of care I’m receiving.
As for wait times, the maximum time I’ve ever waited for an appointment was 30 minutes, which I find in keeping with most medical offices. The pricing is commensurate with most New York City metropolitan area medical professionals, and Dr. Schlussel’s office does take many types of insurance. The office staff is friendly and professional. Often, they will work with you to make sure your insurance covers exams and other services. I can’t recommend Dr. Schlussel and his team enough; they are truly rare gems in the world of optometry!

Coming here is an exercise on patience and tolerance. The first two times I came, I arrived early to my appointment, and didn’t get seen until over an hour later. The third time (yes, I am stupid enough to keep coming back) I decided to come about 15 minutes late. Of course they still weren’t ready. I got up and left to get dinner. Came back, and they still weren’t ready for me.
The receptionist is also very rude and cold. Either that or she got Botox and is unable to execute facial expressions.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Schlussel’s for several years. I’m writing this review to mention that he and his staff are always very professional, efficient and courteous.
Dr. Schlussel has consistently been very helpful in providing me information and advice about my eyes. I have always been a proponent of new technology and feel very comfortable and secure that any exam or test he mentions, without any pressure, is useful and necessary for maintaining healthy eyes. Recently, I had the Optomap Exam and feel more secure about the health of my eyes.
I highly recommend Dr Schlussel, without reservations, to all my friends and family.

I was sold men’s frames unknowingly. They broke because they were so large I kept trying to bend them to make them fit. I brought them back only to find out they were discontinued and I would have to get a different color. Only then did it slip out that they were men’s frames. I will never go there again. What a waste of money. They were NOT cheap. So angry! I felt cheated.
