Really great, personalized service based on my home projects. The guys are honest, helpful, and have a sense of humor. The tools I bought are good quality too, so I expect them to last. Highly recommend this place.

This place is nothing special but usually gets the job done. I’ve had keys made here and bought a bath stopper. No complaints. The employees are friendly enough.

Save yourself a ton of grief and take your business to Saifee on 1st and 7th. The owner recommended a handyman named Edwin to me, whose installation of my stove was not up to code. He also stapled cable wire into my dry wall, creating a fire hazard, and would not refund my $ 300 check. When I went to the location to complain the owner’s prince of a son told me to «shut the fuck up». Nice. Overpriced and irresponsible. Ace the elder told me that he uses Edwin all the time, and that he has cable stapled into dry wall in his home as well. Hope he has home owner’s insurance. Also, I believe that it’s illegal to do electrical work without a license, and the fact that the store doesn’t look into such things doesn’t bode well for the owners, who as it turns out, know almost nothing about home repair. They did nothing to make their vendor refund $ spent on a consumer rip off, even after I spent over $ 400 on house paint from these clowns. I have lived in the East Village for 21 years and have told everyone I know to boycott this store, and it’s greedy, ignorant owners.

Items scattered haphazardly on shelves that look like the remnants left over from a prior decade or worse. Most items do not have prices, the items that had prices were double to triple of other NYC stores. Very small selection. I went there twice, the first time they were closed early at 6. The second time I tried to use the Ace Hardware coupon that I had that was valid and they said they are not the part of the chain that accepts coupons. Walk in for the entertainment and to wonder how this place exists and continues to pay rent. Sad.

Friendly service and immediately helped me grab what I needed(wood glue). Place was a little dirty — I’m blaming the construction above them and it was probably 2x what I would’ve paid at Home Depot but I’d go back. ALSO — open till 8pm, a lot of these places close at 6 or 7 or whenever they feel like it.

Let’s see, I need a fixture cover. What kind? Ummm… for a light fixture that’s been removed. Shuffle around in some box. Hands me a round white metal plate. Yep that looks good. I also need a stopper for the kitchen sink. More rummaging in another box. Great I said, that’s it! Walk to the register, ring up(with a button calculator, more later…). That’ll be $ 10.78. Me digging for cash, then finding a $ 20. Ummm… isn’t that a little high? How much are those items? $ 3.99 for the stopper and $ 5.99 for the plate. Look of devlish suspicion on my face… Um. Whatever, here. I hand him the cash. The whole time I’m thinking, well it would be more trouble to argue, and I need these items quick. Still that was a major grift if you ask me. I would have gone one star, though I remember some positive experience at this place in the past. I don’t think I was wearing shirt and tie last time, maybe that was it.

The place is small but it had what I needed so I can’t complain. At the moment there’s a lot of scaffolding out front so you have to know what you’re looking for. It’s pretty dusty and dirty inside and no racks are labeled but I found someone to help me with what I needed and the rest is history. It definitely beat hauling ass to Home Depot in the flatiron.

This is a dream hardware store to me. Because they always know what I’m looking for and they always have it. Every time I go in here the people are really nice and helpful, even if I’m only buying a small thing. There is another hardware store closer to me, on E 6th, but they never have the same selection and they don’t seem interested to help.

Whenever I go in to this hardware store, I feel like I’m back in the sixth grade and one of the nuns has just caught me rubbing one out in the chancel. They know their tools, their drywall, their roach traps… and they will go to great lengths to prove they know about them better than you. Some people might appreciate a knowledgeable handyman, but I’m always put off by their smugness. You can find most items cheaper at the hardware store two blocks away on the corner of sixth street and 1st Avenue. But if you like your paint served with a generous portion of attitude, I recommend Ace Hardware hands down.
