This place is totally hidden away, and it’s not obvious that it’s a movie theater from the outside. We came here to screen Django Unchained and it felt very academic. There were no distractions like soda or popcorn, but for me that’s the fun of the movies. It was a good screen though, and I would definitely recommend it for screenings.

If you’re looking to screen a film and want a classy, private venue with the best sound and picture in NYC and a top notch staff — call Mark Hudson at the Academy Theater.
Duh, it’s the Academy Theater — which means AMPAS members go to screenings here — which means the sound and picture quality are the best.
Mark is amazing — and his staff is too. Richard the projectionist is a gem and went out of his way to help.
I would absolutely screen here again — our client was thrilled with everything.

One of the best kept secrets in the city. I go every year for the Oscar Nominated Shorts. Check the Oscar website for events. You want any excuse to go here.
For only $ 5 I was able to see both the Live Action and Animated shorts. That’s a fraction of what they cost at IFC. Plus you get a fancy program and a chances to win free stuff!
The screening room is plush and comfortable, and being the Academy they always make sure the picture is perfect!
My only criticism is that they don’t hold enough events open to the public!

A very glamorous looking place with a large screening room, purple velvet curtains and oversized oscar statues. Was there for a screening and an after party at a reception room. really liked this multilevel venue and hope to return many more times.
