Amazing, reading the reviews about no sets and costumes was asking myself hummm. Spectacular, lighting, sound, direction and performances. And the minimalist approach allows you to focus on all of the other attributes allowing your mind the freedom to take an unhindered journey. The final scene and staging will blow your lid. I sat in the balcony and thought of skipping Les MIz the following night to see it again from a better vantage. Perhaps my all time favorite staged drama that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. And the Lyceum is a fantastic venue. Well done, Bravo to all.

1:30pm on a Wednesday and the Tkts Booth line for discount tickets in Times Square was packed. With most, if not all, showtimes at 2pm we had to go straight to the box office and try our luck instead. The long line to get to the box office went quick. But, of course when we asked if they still had tickets the gentleman tried to sell us the $ 135/ticket seats. I guess that’s his job, but ugh I wish they would just lay out the options instead of making us think it’s that or nothing. I asked if they had anything else and of course they had $ 30 seats up top — what they call View From Heaven seats. He seemed less thrilled to sell us those. Dude, would a smile kill you? They’re literally the last row in the theater all the way up top. But, whatever, we’re seeing the same show as the people who paid a multiple of that. $ 100/ticket saved. Never buy the first tickets they offer you and never be afraid to walk away. Said my mother after the show: «Who would pay $ 135 for that? They weren’t even wearing costumes. They didn’t even have shoes!» The show itself was decent but didn’t live up the the hype. The acting was pretty good(including my man crush Russell Tovey). The lead Mark Strong did well in carrying the play. The set was unique — just a single boxed in area. The pulsating music in the background was pivotal at moments but very distracting in others. The characters worked well together. There were also some unique directions on timing and lighting and stage direction. Positive comments for that. The story itself was a snooze. If I wanted to listen to a bunch of people argue about their relationship I’d stay at home and listen to my friend Ashley rant about her ex. Oh, but there’s a man on man kiss! So scandalous, Arthur Miller omg. Except all gay people do is fight and kiss. Oh but it’s just so relevant about immigration! I can sit at home and listen to the GOP spout some nonsense for free. The story just isn’t strong enough to warrant a Broadway run. Nothing was special enough about it. I was bored. Overall, if you want to see it go for the cheap seats for $ 30 up top. Otherwise it’s overrated. Why it’s on Broadway isn’t clear to me. My advice — see something else.
