The Fashion District area between 7th and 8th Avenues and 38th and 40th Streets is packed to the gills with fabric stores. I made an afternoon of acquainting myself with this little section in search of the perfect silver fabric. After schlepping in and out of about 10 fabric stores I was ready to call it quits. But on a whim I stepped into A&M, and I’m glad I did. They had a decent selection of all types of eye-​catching and hard-​to-​find fabrics. There are no prices on the fabric bolts, so feel free to haggle. If you don’t it’s your own loss! My long sought-​after silver fabric was $ 10 a yard, but I talked the guy down to $ 6. Not bad, eh?
