68 Street – Hunter College Station

Overwhelmed with students and kids of the mass of Hunter institutions, avoid their schedule

What a shitty station. It is so dilapidated that you don’t know if it’s going to fall apart any minute. There is garbage hanging off the ceiling and tiles missing and loose. The city seriously needs to upgrade this station.

I’m a ½/​3 girl. But with my new job, I take the M66 across town, and sometimes I’m lazy and will take the 6 one stop instead of walking the 8 blocks.
Going into the station is usually a cluster, because there are so many people walking up in the morning. But the downtown trains seem to come regularly, and I haven’t yet had problems getting in a car (*knock on wood*).

Had to come to campus to print out something at the bursar’s office. Very convenient just taking the escalators downstairs and then descending one more flight of stairs to reach this subway stop.
Wait was crazy, and the signs with their estimated times were way off. Aside from that, it’s like any other subway stop… Except that you will get swarmed by students.

One of the nicer stations in the system compared to others. You can’t get an express train here, which kind of sucks but haven’t had major issues at this station or dealt with cretins here. It’s cleaner & there are more people than at some other ones.

Yet another subway station that confuses me a bit. I always have to stop and look around to make sure I’m going on the right platform. It tends to be rather congested, as it’s a bit small and laid out oddly. But it works if you’re going to Hunter.

There’s nothing like a New York subway station. Absolutely nothing.
I’ve ridden public transit in many big American cities and in some European cities, and nothing, nowhere, is like New York. In fact, some Chicago El stations have more in common with their counterparts in Germany than they do with their Manhattan cousins – after which they were probably modeled.
This station looks like every other New York subway station, which is confusing to visitors and comforting in some ways – I would assume; I’ve never lived in New York – to locals. There are bowels. And I want to use the word dank. And people aren’t as pushy as you expect them to be even though you’re afraid of them, especially the people who don’t look scary. There weren’t as many fare machines as I expected there to be.
New York isn’t as dangerous as it used to be, but that’s not because of the physical landscape. This station (like most stations) has tons of places for people to hide and/​or sneak up on people.

Hmm, I don’t remember much about this station, only the fact that it was right near hunter college.
I don’t recall it being handicapped friendly either.

This station has digital display of train times both on the track and before you enter the gate. Always a plus when living in New York City causes you to always stare at your watch. No guess work here, however, when the sign displays «2 minutes,» it truly means «30 seconds” — so run down those stairs when you see this entering the station!

A very busy station, especially because it’s the stop for Hunter College. If one pays attention, you can almost time the trains coming in– they arrive every 3 minutes or so during peak hours.
The AM New York News guy is a definite plus– he calls out the headlines and which coupons are featured in the paper each morning. If you should need a NY Police Officer, 1 or 2 are always in the station.
