55 Nails

I feel like some of the previous reviews were a bit harsh but maybe things have changed since 6 months ago. I have been to a lot of nail salons before in Manhattan and I would say this one is on the better side. They give you a reasonable price for mani pedi on Monday through Wednesday ($ 30), have lots of OPI and Essie colors to choose from, and the ladies were super nice and efficient with time. What more could you ask for?
I ended up at 55 Nails after seeing how full J&J nail was during lunch. I didn’t have a lot of time during lunch and I have no problem paying more to be taken right away for $ 8 more at 55 Nails.
For $ 30 mani pedi at 55 nails, I thought they did a really good job. You get a standard pedicure, quick foot massage, and the callus oil treatment on your heels. I was pleasantly surprised because most places charge extra for callus oil treatment. They did the manicure really beautifully and no extra charge for a top coat like some places do.
Lastly I got an eyebrow wax which turned out very clean and nicely shaped. During the drying time for my nails, I got a shoulder massage for 10 min which was $ 13 and a little bit on the pricier side but totally worth it because I was super stressed.

Like other reviewers, I am very disappointed in myself (an avid Unilocaler) for not having read the reviews before stopping in here. While the salon is clean and the service friendly, this is the absolute worst manicure I have ever received. TERRIBLE. It looks like a 4 year old painted my nails. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!

Don’t. Go. Here. Just don’t. I wish so badly I had read these reviews before I treated myself to a manicure for the first time in months.
My manicurist was very distracted every time someone came in the door and kept getting up to help people choose colors in the middle of my manicure.. The color looks awful — It’s super streaked. At one point the cut on her thumb bled on me. I’m horrified. I wish I had gotten up and walked out. When I went to pay she tried to add clear nail polish to my already messy manicure. I asked her to stop, she grabbed my hand anyway and I very sternly said, ‘no”. «stop».
Never again.
Just don’t go here. Just don’t.
The worst part about all of this is that she seemed really sweet. I feel awful.

I stopped by here last week looking for a quick manicure. While the place is very clean my manicure is horrendous. In the beginning the woman doing my nails was doing an excellent job, then someone else came in, who by the way, didn’t have an appointment, so the woman doing my nails proceeded to basically half-​ass my manicure to get it done so she could help the next girl.
She didn’t put top coat over the whole nail and the polish on multiple nails chipped the same day I got it done.
The worst part is for a manicure in New York this place isn’t cheap, $ 12.50 for a manicure.
I’m never going back.

If this could be zero stars it would be! I went in on Wed for their $ 29.99 manicure/​pedicure special. Gena did my feet, she was nice but I ended up fixing my own feet. The job was mediocre at best, the pedicure was expedited (shortest one I have ever had) by that time I had to return to work again and pre-​paid and tipped for everything. I said I would return after work at 6pm, unfortunately I was sick and had to go to the emergency room. I then stopped back to let them know I was sick and would come back to get my manicure the next day. The owner was there and obliged. The next day I came in (Thursday) and the owner recognized me, asked me to pick colors and sat me down and let me know there was a three dollar up charge for the manicure price today. I said what are you talking about. I paid for both services and a tip yesterday, she then acted as if she didn’t know what I was talking about. I showed her my online banking charge because she didn’t give me a receipt, she then proceeded to tell me she only charged me for a pedicure!!! And that the $ 40 was for pedicure and tip. I then got very upset, and said to her you have got to be kidding me, I will never come back here. You won’t ever get my business again. she then tried to calm me down, she didn’t want the other customers to hear what I was saying. I said it loud enough for everyone to hear. She then hushed me to sit and that she would do my manicure as she was supposed to without charging me. I reluctantly sat and she sped through the process, I then sat to dry and she came behind me to massage me and I gave her this nasty look and told her not to touch me. I then walked out and didn’t tip the owner. I will NEVER GO BACK THERE AND NEITHER WILL FRIENDS OR COWORKERS!!! THEE ABSOLUTE WORST NAIL SALON I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. THE OWNER IS DISGUSTING. COMPLETELY DISHONEST. GO TO J AND J NAILS

Awful. They tell you one price in the beginning and then when you get to pay its a way more expensive price. Awful service. Told me 39.99 in the beginning then ended up being $ 80? Then I gave a $ 15 tip (which was generous) and she told me that wasn’t enough??? Awful.

I walked in here yesterday instead of my usual place for acrylics and was told it was $ 60…I wasn’t willing to pay so the manager went down to $ 40. These aren’t even real acrylics — so thin that two already chipped. Not worth $ 40 and definitely not worth $ 60. The ladies are nice but I will not be returning

I was told the price to simply remove my gel tips would be $ 10.00. While the manager was removing them she told me that she’d have to charge me $ 13.00 instead because they were difficult to remove. After she roughly took them off, all the while huffing and puffing about how difficult it was, she buffed my nails and quickly added cuticle oil. She then took my card and charged me $ 27.00. When she asked me to sign I told her I thought it was only $ 13.00, I couldn’t believe she charged me to remove the gel tips and charged me for a manicure without even asking. She didn’t even put polish on them. I tried to fight the charge but she threw a fit. I asked her to apply polish and she rushed that too. I am appalled that someone would scam a hard working individual like that. I certainly won’t be giving them my business again. Don’t be fooled by the two good reviews. Be aware!

My wife frequents this place when there’s business to conduct in Midtown.
It’s not on the corner so it’s a nice comfortable atmosphere, less hectic.
The staff is kind and the pedicure massages are great!
My pedicure lasted incredibly long, I was surprised. The young girl has excellent skills and took her time, not slow, just not rushing.
I will continue to come back.
