I visited a number of caterers in the North Shore before making my selection for my wedding reception. I didn’t hire Celebrations Gourmet Catering and I wanted to share why. We met with Toby, who is very nice, albeit a little disorganized. She introduced herself to us and brought us into their adjacent food tasting room and had us sit at one of the table clothed tables. I was ready with a notepad and pen because I had a bunch of questions but I realized I couldn’t put anything down because the tables were dirty with crumbs and schmutz! Not a very good first impression. We asked about getting a list of the various foods they have to offer for both the cocktail hour and the dinner and she brought us to her computer area(just a desk, not a separate office). Her desk was covered in papers and she just told us to pull up two chairs and watch over her shoulder. Then she started searching in her computer for all of her picture files– totally unprepared. Toby kept showing us pictures of different meals they do and some of their showcased appetizers but couldn’t detail all of the things that were in the pictures. We had nothing to take away with us to review and make a decision. At one point she showed us a picture of beef with way too much Au Jus. When I asked her about it, she said, «Oh, well this was a mistake and it wouldn’t be like that for you.» Um. well, why are you showing a potential client one of your mistakes? She showed us the kitchen in the back which was huge and impressive, but our meeting was already tainted. The prices were high and when I tried to discuss some of the charges that I thought were ambiguous, she simply said, «That’s just the way we do things here.» And, that was that. Before we left, I asked her again for a listing of the meals and appetizers they offer and she said she would email them to me. It’s been almost a year, my wedding is over. and she still hasn’t sent them. What does this tell you?
