Bagels are great. Their pastries are yummy. The rye bread was like my childhood home bakery, Mayrons in Hartford. The service can be slow and disorganized on a busy morning, but they are always friendly and cheerful. I love that they have a good selection of teas, since I luv luv luv me some tea and bagels. And their lox & cream cheese spread is just right for a nice toasted onion bagel.

Fantastic bakery café close to Mohegan Sun. Everything is baked in the shop. We had delicious egg sandwiches and the prices were ultra reasonable. Being Valentine’s Day, we took home cupcakes and they were not your typical sugar cream supermarket horror story. They were superior. Best of all prices are very low. Staff is attentive and everyone wears a bow tie. So cute! This is worth finding for anyone who enjoys supporting local business as opposed to the big chains.

Coming back from the casino my husband and I were looking for a breakfast joint. We came across this little café. Bagels were delicious, pastries looked fantastic and a great coffee selection. Service was great too!

We went twice in one weekend and loved it. I appreciated the simple but tasty food menu and the wide variety of baked treats. I had a whoopie pie one day and a chocolate chip cookie the other day and both were good. For food I tried a meatloaf sandwich on an onion roll(really good) and a ham sandwich on a sourdough bagel(also good but small). Both visits we were delighted with the price. 2 drinks, 2 deserts and 2 sandwiches for less than 20 dollars is a great deal. The inside of the business is very cute and friendly with a nice retro feel.

Went here for the first time today and it’s now my new favorite breakfast place! There is no other place like this around this area. Its nice to finally have a great breakfast place to be able to go to. Its clean, the employees are friendly and helpful, they have a big yummy selection, and the food is delicious.

Pretty nice place. I will say the breads and muffins are a little dry but overall it not a bad place. I gave it only three stars because almost everything we got way in the dry side esp the muffins The Russian rye is good and Danishes hit the spot. Again some were on the dry side for our taste

Had to be up and out early but when returning home at 6am was starving Stopped off at this little gem and have fallen in love! Open and fully functioning at 6AM is fantastic! Everything bagel with egg and cheese! –and this bagel had everything. Fully loaded bagel. Toasted to perfection, spicy mustard, and it literally melted in my mouth. A bagel that melts in your mouth? I thought it was impossible but not any longer Coffee –delicious. I moved here from Seattle and it is such a pleasure to finally have a rich, warm cup of coffee that doesn’t have an over brewed taste and smell. Pricing! I only spent 5.00. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised

My husband and I moved to Norwich in December and ever since we first tried Poppy & Rye, we fell in love! My favorite treat ever is their walnut sticks and my husband loves the sour cream coffee cake… but you really cannot go wrong with ANYTHING they have because it is all so wonderfully perfect. Also, I would like to thank Poppy and staff for our yummy surprise treats and very yummy warm brownies! Not that you could ever keep us away, but tonight made us love you all even more(if that is even possible). Thank you, thank you! See you all soon.

We wanted to purchase but both counter girls were uninterested in their customers. We were the only 2 people in the place. One didn’t have a clue what she sells… Italian EASTER Pie. Huh? Stared at us blankly without response of any kind until we turned away. The other one was so into the music I had to wave my hand in her face before she focused. I was trying to purchase while she gave me an explanation of how much she loved that song. 3 times I tried to communicate but she had her own agenda. We just walked out and will not be walking back in, ever.

Went for the first time today with my sis on a rainy day. They have two rooms which are both well done and sparkling. The first room has the beautifully designed display case for their large choice of baked goods including gluten free items. The most amazing thing was a selection of loose tea served in generous mugs. The next room was filled with small to large tables, enough to accommodate many individuals & gatherings of all sizes. Love the chandelier & white glass collection decorating the dining area.

Great if you have time and patience. On a lunch break? Not so great. You have to speak up or they will keep taking orders without cashing anyone out. My food sat on the counter while the cashier continued taking orders. I was walking out the door when they finally called me up. I should have just left.

AMAZING !! Finally somewhere in Norwich that is quaint, modern, and offers fabulous bread. They used to offer only breads but to our surprise this morning, they had bagels and egg sandwiches for breakfast. It’s a café, so you order and then sit in the café section to eat — no waitresses. A little bit of a drawback but it doesn’t deters me. I ordered a toasted almond tea(YES! A place that offers lose tea and not a stale tea bag of either black or questionable green) and an Asiago bagel with egg and cheese. My boyfriend ordered sausage egg and cheese on an onion bagel. The tea and the bagels were DELICIOUS. The only reason for 4 out of 5 stars was that the cheese(and sausage) were cold on the sandwich. Such a bummer! Melt the cheese and warm up the sausage and its a 5 star review. Even with that, I’ll be back!!! Just warm it up!

Absolutely the best pastries, bagels, breads etc. They have a huge assortment of bagels and breads. The Russian Rye is unbelievable. Lots of gluten free/sugar free options. Super cute décor and very friendly staff

Beautiful décor. When you first enter the bakery, you’re able to see the baker behind a plexiglass creating his pastries. The dining area is airy and comfortable. I ordered an asiago pesto bagel with plain cream cheese, sticky bun, almond crescent, and cappacino. Everything was delicious. The pastries were not overly sweet. Will definitely come back!

I’ve been here twice and so far I’ve had the best everything and the best spinach bagels I’ve ever had. The spinach bagel was particularly good, especially since you can’t usually find them at the usual places that sell«bagels». The cream cheese is awesome(key!), and I had a lavender earl grey tea that rocked my world. The only issue is that the menu is not clearly visible(I know it’s probably still being revised), but even just having a few printouts near where the end of the line is would be really helpful in speeding things along.

I’m so excited that Poppy & Rye has opened. The area really needs a great bakery/sandwich shop that serves delicious food made with great ingredients. I went in on the first Saturday they were open & ordered a Sesame bagel toasted with butter & a chai tea. The bagel was awesome — great crunch on the outside with a healthy chew on the inside. It’s the first good bagel I’ve had since moving to CT from NYC. I will definitely be back to taste more of the pastries, egg sandwiches & more. And bonus, the décor is adorable, the dining room is bright & inviting & they have free wifi!

Today I had the Asiago Spinach bagel w plain cream cheese and it was wicked awesome. The bagel was still warm. It was cool to see the bakers prepping and baking the dough right behind the glass. The dough doesn’t come frozen off a truck like some other bakeries. Watching the bakers roll and boil the bagels is an art in itself. I also sampled the apple slices which were awesome too. The rye bread is great too. The Russian Rye is also amazing and huge. They will start serving lunch very soon. I will be buying my fresh bread at Poppy & Rye Bakery Café. They also have my favorite Lemon Danish as well as blueberry and Cherry. They have a huge selection of teas that can be purchased in bulk. Today they had a green and a tropical fruit tea served chilled. I sampled both and both were good even unsweetened as I prefer tea. I will post more reviews and pics when I go back. I will definitely be going back.
