Poor service and bad food. I had huevos rancheros and asked for eggs over medium. Unattractively served with lukewarm refried beans, hard cooked eggs and no sour cream or salsa as specified on the menu. Friend had the Ultimate Sandwich which was anything but ultimate. Sausage gravy, blah biscuits. Our waitress did bring the sour cream and salsa when requested though never checked in to ask if everything was ok. Service took a long time. Low prices, about $ 7 for each breakfast. Would rather have paid a little more for quality food and better service.

Came here for breakfast. Ruthie was our server and she was really nice, attentive and friendly. I ordered the cinnamon crisp(just the half order) as it said it was featured on the Food Network. I can see why! It’s like a gourmet version of Burger King’s french toast sticks. The half order looks small at first, but trust me, it’s enough! Bottomless coffee another plus. Cute gifts for sale too.

WOW! I have to start with that. I can’t believe this place… outstanding. A wide selection of meal choice. Everything had the appearance that is was prepared by your loving gramma. I never ever order meatloaf when I dine out. However, our waitress walked by with a plate of it and asked her what that smell was… Her reply, The Meatloaf with mash. Well that’s what I ordered. Incredible, literally destroyed every traditional meatloaf I ever ate. I felt like I was at home. The atmosphere is a traditionally 60’s-70’s attire and I feel that that’s what give you that at home feeling. Better then here is the kicker, after I cleaned my plate, the waitress asked if we where interested in house homemade pies… UMYESPLEASE. It was the perfect ending to a phenomenal meal. The staff was extremely nice. Also if you don’t have rooms for dessert you can grab a slice or pie to go. Thank you guys for giving me the feeling of a nice traditional family meal.

I had gone in here w/my hubby for dinner around the end of July. Their website(which has since been redone when I checked it on 8÷18÷15) had listed their hours on one part of it being open til 9pm(I did notice another part said 8pm afterwards, but why have 2 different things posted?). It was 7:40pm when we showed up and as soon as we walked in the person at the checkout counter said«sorry, we’re closed» in a very rude manner to us. I wondered who had closing hours at 7:40pm but didn’t say anything and we left. I proceeded to check the website again and try to contact them. The email I sent to the owner Rodney kept being returned to my email as a non valid email address so I contacted the catering manager to let her know. She did apologize and explain the website was going to be updated but it was against their policy to turn people away that time of night and that regardless if I showed up at 5pm or 7:40pm(with them closing at 8pm) that we should’ve been treated like guests. I even pointed out the page that had the hours listed as closing at 9pm so she was aware of the confusion. After have a conversation thru email regarding everything, she offered to send us a gift card so we could give them another try and she was going to address the time issue with the staff. Its been over 2 weeks and no follow up from them or gift card.

The best breakfast in town. I could just come here for the home fries, they are that good! The staff is very friendly and efficient. I highly recommend trying this spot out.

Where to begin… Ok, I’m from Plainfield CT and was around 16 years old when I first ate at Olde Tymes. I am now 43 years old and have lived in Boston for almost 20 years. Needless to say, I have eaten at many, many restaurants over the years… high end, low end, Boston, NYC, as well as many other places as well. I only get to eat at Olde Tymes once every few years or so nowadays. I had breakfast here yesterday with my boyfriend and two other friends that are big foodies. All three of them were blown away by the food and the service. The staff really treat you like they know you. Between the four of us we had omelets, hash, biscuits and gravy, chicken fried steak and of course cinnamon crisp french toast as well as other delicious things. It doesn’t matter what you order, Olde Tymes is like the ultimate home-cooked food that you want. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, they got you. Boston has some excellent restaurants, but we do not have Olde Tymes… not even close. My parents ate here monthly at the least when they were alive. ‚ There truly is nothing like this place.

Usually very good but today was extremely disappointing. Waffles were from frozen instead of being made fresh here. All the food came out cold. The excuse about the waffles is the old waffle maker broke. When we spoke to the server about it she said well maybe if you had asked me before, but why would one want to ask about the food that was supposed to be fresh if it is actually fresh?

We moved to Norwich 5 years ago and immediately tried breakfast at Old Tymes. Hideous food! Eggs were hard and cold, bacon was precook end crap and even the bread was bad. Our waiters was an old man who desperately tried to make up for the food with service, even forcing a bag of blueberry muffins on us to take home to make up for the lack of breakfast eaten. We tipped him well, threw the bag in the trash and vowed never to return. After 4 years we finally worked up the courage to try again and THANKGODWEDID! In the past 6 months we have been working our way through the breakfast menu, each one hot, fresh and delicious. They even make great grits! Today’s were so soft and creamy, I think they were better than when I lived in Chattanooga, TN. The décor is typical down home country but the restaurant is clean, the staff friendly and caring(especially Ruthie) and breakfast(the only meals we’ve had there) consistently terrific. So glad we tried again!

Gross. Next to me in the booth was an old air vent that apparently had never been cleaned. It ruined by appatitte, but the food tasted pretty cheap anyway. Its just impossible to overcome the disgust. If the dining room is so dirty and dusty, one must wonder about the kitchen.

Olde Tymes Prime Rib(Take Out) has been a staple for me for quite some time now. Anytime I’ve been craving a homemade meal, at home, without having to cook, at home, they are my go to! I recommend for sides; mashed potatoes and gravy, clam chowder, and side salad with their house dressing. Make sure to ask them to throw in a couple of biscuits!!! They also have an excellent breakfast special, with your own handle of java and a Norwich Bulletin, for less than $ 5.

I would eat there again, like a diner with some interesting perks. Keep that in mind: not fine dining but comfort food. Like a Cracker-barrel with better décor and non corporate. Interesting Barn like with sewing machines in the rafters, antiques, etc. Food: Reuben was massive with meat, generous fries, nicely flavored but too watery. In general the combo was delicious. Entries were a little pricey but come with«bottomless sides» like a delicious split pea soup, potatoes, etc. Prime rib looked massive, like a Homer Simpson portion. The waitstaff is hilarious. One of our group was having so much fun with teasing and bantering. Working class gals with smart mouths. Surprised by how many negative reviews.

We discovered Olde Tymes the other day, while driving lookng for cars on Route 32 in Norwich. Heard there corny jingle on an news radio station. Gave it a try… was very rustic and down home a real treat from the chain restaurant scene. The family had a good meal an d we will be back. Had a great charm to it all.

We came to eat here after a wedding. Our server was extremely rude and made us feel very uncomfortable. She was very snappy and threw straws at us. She didn’t ask if we wanted drinks and was very very snappy. We have yet to get our food and we want to leave!

The best tasting food in Connecticut! Strawberry waffle. Biscuits and gravy. ‘Apple Crisp’. Spanish omelet. Home fries. Service: awesome. attentive. polite. Flavor: off the charts. Textures: perfectly prepared. Fluffy biscuits and sausage gravy is thick and chunky. And the coffee is very good too! Cozy cabin homey. Professional staff. Clean and comfortable inside and out.

Cozy little restaurant with friendly people, exceptional breakfast and really good coffee. Waitress was personable, prompt, and even offered us a sample of grits since we never tried it before. Tried the catfish for breakfast, just to try something different, and it was awesome. Large serving sized, brought home basically 2 meals. Will return again

Nikki W.11/3/2013 Worst place ever! My friends eggs were barely cooked. The over cramped table was not a charming appeal. Hash browns were nasty. The steak was the worst cut, it resembles what seems to be a cows asshole, and was still bleeding. We waited forever, and our food was cold. The only thing good there was the packets of jelly. My friend intentionally made himself throw up, rather than having that meal in his stomache. If only they paid more attention to their food, rather than the décor.

BREAKFAST. To me, it’s what they do best. The Ultimate Breakfast Sandwich may not be much to look at, but that’s not why you are here. Your tastes buds will thank you. The other great item on the breakfast menu is Cinnamon French Toast. It comes with a hot apple juice/cider type sauce to dip it in as well as maple syrup and I can barely finish this portion. The atmosphere is RUSTIC charm. And it’s bathed in it. If you don’t like that type of place, you’re gonna hate it here.

After a relatively successful Mohegan trip, my darlin’ and I were lookin’ for some morning grub. A Unilocal search and subsequent Google Places search yielded no nearby options — just a few in towns farther away, so we decided to drive until we saw something that looked good. Well lo and behold, the«something» we saw was one of those options listed in one of those farther away towns: Olde Tymes Restaurant. Having passed about eight Dunkin’ Donuts prior to this discovery, we said«what the hell» and pulled in. We were seated right away at a table upstairs. The place seems like it should be in North Country, NY. Our table was practically in the upstairs prep kitchen, and there was a girl(server? busgirl?) who just stood and stared at our table through breakfast. as Pauly D would say: «AWK! ward!» The food was slightly slow but it was a busy morning, so all is forgiven there. It was actually a darn good meal. The bill was a little higher than was warranted for the overall food + atmosphere. I’d come again, but more out of convenience than any real drive to head back. Not bad, not wonderful, A-OK.
