Driving back from the CT coast to Boston’s North Shore on a sweltering summer Sunday, we were looking for a place to stretch the legs, let the wolf drain her pee-pouch and get some grub– but be back on the road in 20mins. Enter Buddy’s: right off 395, outdoor seating and easy eats. The food was pretty meh, but the service was awesome: it was like 64647848874 degrees out, and they brought a huge bowl of ice water for the pooch. They were super friendly about everything, and when we asked for pickles for the kiddo’s hot dawgs, they hooked up like a full, speared, fresh deli pickle. Bonus. Hot dogs and onion rings were tasty, especially the latter which were huge and golden brown. The clam fritters were pretty awful, as was the clam roll, but that’s sort of my fault for ordering from the sea when this is a pretty basic terrestrial joint. Doh. This place is classic old New England: a little bit kitschy, a little bit divey, a little bit greasy, and very summery. If similar circumstances presented themselves, I’d stop back in.

We used to rely on Buddy’s for a tasty, foot-long Nathan’s dog on a buttered, toasted roll. Not any more — not foot-long and not a savory roll! They no longer carry scallops or shrimp — the only seafood you can get is fried fish or clam strips. The order of strips is extremely stingy for the price, and the quality is what you’d get in the bargain frozen food section of a grocery store. The only positive thing was the server who was courteous and helpful. Stay away — this isn’t the Buddy’s you once craved.

I’ve been to Buddy’s previously and it was much better. Where do I begin with this one. When I stopped I wanted a hotdog in the past they were always good. I asked if the hotdogs were all beef I was informed they are ordered that and onion rings. The employee took my money and preceded to go pull out the stuff to prepare my order, mind you without washing his hands or using gloves. Another employee was by the window I said do you mind telling your coworker to please start my order over and please wash his hands and wear gloves. The employee asked me if I was serious? His words? seriously? Yes seriously. When I get to my destination and go to eat one bite and instantly knew this was not all beef had to throw the whole thing away as I can’t eat it I would spend days sick if I had! It’s VERYIMPORTANT to be truthful when it comes to ingredients in food. Never will I go back there! Too bad they used to be a good little place to grab a bite.

This was my go to place for chili cheese dogs. New owners changed the style of the hot dogs. No more buttered and grilled New England roll and no more foot longs. Sadly, I won’t be returning.

Summer beach food without the crowds on the shore. Service is great, menu is ample for this type of fare. Any place where I can find clam fritters is a must! Also pulled pork and«The Kracken» are a real treat. Must try! There isn’t much in this area in the way of good food but this is a little diamond in the rough.

This place was a very pleasant surprise. Got out of a meeting later than expected with a coworker and needed a place to grab lunch fast. Gave Buddy’s a shot and ended up enjoying a great lobster roll and a shake. Guy at the counter was very helpful and fun to deal with. Has the feel of an old-school fast-food joint, before the huge national chains took over.

This is really a three and a half star review but Unilocal won’t allow that so this I bumped it down to three stars. I’ve been here a few times. I’ve had the fries, the hamburger and the hotdog here. They’re all very good. The hotdog is juicy and flavorful and the bun is cooked just right. undoubtedly the best hotdog you can get in the area. The fries are nice but they didn’t blow me away. The cheese sauce that comes with them however, is amazing and if you’re going to get the fries I would definitely recommend getting the cheese sauce with it. The burger is pretty good but not amazing. Whenever I’ve gotten it it ends up tasting a little too much like char for my taste. It’s not bad though. I want to go back and try the bbq pork on the weekends. it looks great. The seating here isn’t great but it does the job. Some of the tables seem to be a little off balance. It is for the most part pretty clean. It’s also next to a hardware store, which i find kind of strange but that’s dosen’t detract from anything. The food usually comes out in a good 10 minutes. Overall really good food for what it is. If you need something quick that isn’t fast food, then this is a pretty good choice.

Most importantly: The 1 dollar tray charge has been dropped. Woohoo. Got another Georgia Red Hot. This time I asked them to «slice it down the middle so when it cooks on the flattop it gets a little burned crust formed on the inside». Said it to the cashier, repeated to the cook. Cook said«no problem». Ha. I ended up with a dog that had about six crosswise slices down the length. Which not only did not create the«crust», but also let all the juices out. If you like your dog cooked this way it seems more explanation is needed.

We were in the mood for a Nathan’s hot dog. This place filled the food craving to a «T». We had their 10″ hot dog, fries and a drink. The hot dog was grilled perfect and put on a toasted hot dog bun. Fries were fresh and quite tasty. Everything is cooked to order and well worth the wait.
