Yeah, they are rude as f*ck. But are you there for the atmosphere or for cake donuts?

The owner is soo rude she literally threw my money at me and told me as she straightens the dollar«better give you it perfect because that’s how you always like it» when I’ve never meet her before so not worth my time going and the treats tasted gross too

Stopped in to pick up some treats for our visit with our dear friend Lynn. Really delicious items, almond tart, some buttermilk cake donuts that were glazed and in the shape of an éclair, and a cinnamon swirl. The little buttermilk donuts were my favorite, hands down. This little shop brought me right back to when I was a kid and we would go to the bakery that was on 36th and Bryant in Minneapolis. If you are ever in Northfield Mn., stop in to a classic bakery with excellent goods.

We ordered approximately 30 pies for our wedding in July. The owners were helpful, generous, and kind. These guys know their pies! We received many compliments from our guests about how good the pies were. Would definitely get their pies again.

As previous reviewers have said, the baked goods are absolutely lovely. The only thing that I disagree with completely is how friendly the staff are. In all my experiences there, they are surly and not nice at all to their customers, and they get SUPER annoyed if you bring in any food that wasn’t bought there, especially coffee. Also, this review is coming from a townie who has lived in Northfield her entire life.

Reading the reviews here I felt the strong need to share my personal experience with this business and its owner, Sue, in particular. Sue has been so kind to my eldery mother and my family when we are in town and stop by, it is unlike any experience I have had in a very long time. Sue and my mother hit it off when they discovered their shared ancestry and Sue has been a sweet, patient friend of hers since. The kolaches are the next best thing to the ones my mom made until she had to stop baking years ago. They are so good in fact, that I just ordered several dozen to be picked up and shipped out to me as part of my daughters graduation party. This bakery is like a step back in time which to be honest is one of the things I like best about it. It’s that old-fashioned, midwest, quality over quantity type of establishment that is lacking in our immediate gratification society these days. Don’t miss stopping by and grabbing some fantastic bakery the next time you are in the neighborhood! Be sure and tell Sue and Doug hello and that«Anne from California» sent you. Thanks Sue and Doug for the delicious bakery and kindness!!!

I was surprised to find such a nice cute bakery on an old tiny charming town. Some of the pastries looked so good it reminded me the real deal: French bakeries in Vieux Nice. But the enchantment stopped there: In the looks… The store attendants were an old grumpy white woman and and middle aged grumpy white man. There wasn’t a crowd in the store, just two women who had already bought what they wanted. But the couple was in a rush to get rid of us. The woman left the cashier and went to pick up my apple turnover with her hands… came back with her thumb on top of my turnover… same hands she was giving people change… I asked about another pastry and she told me cold and shortly what it was, pushing what I already had payed towards me, as if saying«go away!». The coffee wasn’t great, the turnover was mushy. All that flaky millefeuille pastry that looked so great, wasn’t great after all and certainly not worth going through that door to pay to be slighted by grumpy people.

Old school, brought back memories of my childhood when Grandma & I would stop at the local bakery for a treat on a Saturday morning. These days many of us(including me) are used the newest donut trend and gourmet combination of flavors. It’s nice to see that bakeries like this are still around to remind us of the simple delight of a raspberry jelly filled Bismarck.

This is the best doughnut shop in my opinion and I’m not sugar coating it.(Pun intended) I have never been in such a friendly environment. The wide variety of doughnuts and pastries make it worth a drive from Minneapolis once a week! Always feel very welcome and a «At home»

I called QB from California to have a birthday cake delivered to my daughter at Carleton on short notice, and they were wonderful! I was especially impressed that they took my order for same-day delivery, even though I still had to mail them payment(they don’t accept credit cards). It’s rare to find that kind of trust these days. Thank you, QB!

I am nostalgic for two things. The fact that these people were pretty surly and«whaddaya want» in a town *filled* with overweening MN Nice. I could actually get in and get out without a conversation to make me late. I wonder why experiences vary so widely on this. Actually, I don’t, unfortunately, but whatever. Donuts. I’ll be ruded-at for donuts, I admit it. And — cake donuts. Donuts are the new cupcake and blah blah. Well, I like cake donuts, not raised ones. Cake Donut Win. And cheeeeeap. Other baked goods — meh. Donuts — worth driving an hour for.

I completely disagree with Michael C. The employees at the Quality Bakery are rude. I’ve been in there dozens of times, and have been treated terribly every time. Fortunately the donuts and cookies are worth it. Just nod and smile at the snarky person behind the counter, and order a dozen little O’s from heaven — to go. The donuts are better than most other ones I’ve had — this is no run-of-the-mill donut house or convenience store kind of doughy bliss. Stop in around Defeat of Jesse James Days to get a cute«Da Feet of Jesse James» foot-shaped glazed donut. And the cookies are excellent as well. AND they have pretty much every flavor of Jelly Belly known to man. And the bread… okay, I’ll stop now.

Oh, the Quality Bakery. Another reason I’m going to move to Northfield someday(see my review of Bittersweet). This is one of those businesses that makes it such a perfect, old-fashioned town. The people are nice – Midwestern nice, Northfield nice, really nice – not just polite. They have a great variety of breads, cakes, cookies, doughnuts, great kolachy, and plenty of other pastries. In this age of doughnut chains and supermarket bakery departments, it’s reassuring to know that the Quality Bakery is still there on Division Street. On my most recent trip to Northfield, for a Carleton reunion last weekend, I bought a bunch of stuff so I could bring it home(many states away :() and enjoy a little taste of Northfield for a while. I recommend the Quality Bakery more as a bakery than as a coffee shop. The coffee shop area is fine, but not outstanding; Bittersweet, the new James Gang Coffee Shop(or whatever it’s called), or Blue Monday’s(if you’re in the mood for a coffeehouse, rather than a coffee shop) is probably a nicer place to sit. But on the Bakery side, you can’t beat the Quality of this place. ;)
