My family and I have been going here for years! It is the best. I also order from the Old Town location.

One of the very best sushi restaurants in the suburbs. We eat here all the time and each time the sushi is exceptional. You can’t go wrong with any of the rolls or other items. Very fresh and always great service. Also delivery is available. Highly recommend this place for sushi.

This is one the best sushi places to go to in Northbrook. The sushi tastes very fresh and the sashimi is extremely fresh as well. We always ask for our favorite waitress Usa. She’s very nice and a great waitress. I start with the miso soup which has great flavor. I also love the kameachi salad with their ginger dressing. The dressing is so delicious and the ginger flavor is excellent. My favorite rolls to get are the green turtle roll and the wonderful roll. Highly recommend both of these rolls and also recommend the spicy tuna deluxe deluxe, spicy tuna crunch, and the summer roll. Everything tastes super fresh and they also deliver.

Seriously, get the Rock Shrimp Tempura. One of my favorite appetizers anywhere. Try the black rice with your sushi, too. I definitely come here for sushi, apps, noodle soups, etc. Almost never get a protein entrée because sushi, duh!

Great sushi but this location lacks the vibe you would want for a good sushi place. The city locations are much better for that. If you’re in the burbs, though, the rolls are solid. Try all of their specialty makis– Crouching Tuna Hidden Crab is my fav. The spicy edamame is a must if you like spice and garlic.

Everyone here was very nice and the food was decent. My problems with the restaurant was the seasoning. Although the fish was fresh enough(some pieces were a little suspicious — but nothing horrible) the rice was under seasoned and lacking. When we went they were having a $ 5 dollar off special on any of the special rolls. We got the Mayflower and the double spider rolls. The difference in flavor was hardly noticeable and I could have sworn I get the same rolls. Just unfavorable. All in all, the dining experience was uninspiring. All the entrees looks decent enough and if forced to come here in the future I may consider that instead. My order consisted of the salmon(meh), shrimp(meh), octopus(meh), tofu pocket(great) nigiri. Mayflower(meh) and the double spider(meh) roll.

I’ve been to other Kamahachis, but first time at the Northbrook location. It’s larger than I expected with a nice open feel. I had the smoked Salmon Nigiri, which was fresh and very tasty. For my main entrée, I had the chicken teriyaki bento box. Initially the chicken teriyaki breast seemed on the smaller side, but the box as a whole is quite large so they probably planned this better than I had given them credit for. The box also comes with miso soup, 6 pieces of California rolls, shrimp snd vegetable tempura. The chicken was sweet with a slightly smoky flavor and everything was quite excellent. I also especially liked the crab meat and seaweed in the cucumber salad. I throughly enjoyed my meal and would not hesitate to return to the Northbrook location again if I am in the area.

Very fresh sushi and delicious ramen. The tonkatsu ramen had an authentic slightly milky colored pork broth with pieces of perfectly cooked pork belly on top. The Godzilla roll is too large(wide) to eat one piece in a single bite. We prefer the Turtle Roll and the Green Dragon — both are very similar with spicy wasabi sauce and unagi. The Hijiki salad is great in small bites — the portion they serve as a salad is way too much for even two people but a great value at $ 4 for a bow. It is dark, sweet and salty with pieces of compressed chicken. Best to sit at a glass topped table as the side wooden tables seem to have very sticky tops — they might need to be refinished as even wiping them down does not seem to help.

consistently fresh and tasty sushi, we’ve been going to this place for years. The staff treat you like family, there’s never a long wait — even the take-out sushi is high quality. Lunch or dinner — this place is the best in Northbrook.

It was my second time going to kamehachi and I was thoroughly impressed by all facets of the place. I ordered the sushi bowl which is a must try if your master of sushi like myself. Also, it’s in the suburbs of Chicago, but it’s worth the drive. Fresh food and fresh atmosphere for those who want avoid the hustle and bustle of downtown Chicago.

I came in for lunch during a bitterly cold weekday. They had a great noodle soup with chicken. Loved it and really hit the spot. The restaurant is very relaxed with an easy décor and clean lines, a long space with plenty of seating. A little pricey but worth it if you’re a member of the free dining club which accrues points for your spend.

NONONO is all I have to say. If you are in the north shore area and going here for sushi you are making a mistake. For one its always ALWAYS empty which should just tell you its the wrong place to begin with. try Fujiyama its a hole in the wall type sushi place with the freshest fish in northbrook.

Life is too short to eat old sushi! The food was not fresh nor well prepared. We tried this place last night. The salmon was tough and the shrimp tempura was chewy. The appetizer featured on the menu, bacon crab Rangoon, was not available, and the beef asparagus rolls were Nasty. We will never go back to this place. The rice was gummy and the tea tasted like dirty sox smell. They spent a lot to decorate this place, but they didn’t save any to hire a good chef.

Friendly staff and hamachi was fresh. Wasn’t expertly cut but fresh. The rice that came with the hamachi don was cold and hard. Official entrance at the back of the building but if you walk in the front, it’s fine. May return and try their ramen as that’s hard to find in the suburbs.

My wife and I decided to stay in for New Years eve after a long day traveling. We called in our order to Kamehachi and we were told it would be an hour and a half for delivery which we were content with. 90 minutes later we inquired about our order status assuming that things would be slower on NYE. We were told that our order had not even been started at which point we decided to cancel and make other dinner plans. We figured that would be the end of it. Suddenly out of nowhere somebody starts persistently knocking on our front door at 10:30, a full 2.5 hours after we had cancelled our order. The knocking which woke our young children up continued for at least 10 minutes. At this point I wasn’t sure who could be there at our front door, but I contemplated answering the door armed or calling the police considering the persistence of the knocking. Finally I screamed out the window to find out who it was and was told it was our sushi order. We called the restaurant back which is where it got more interesting. The boy who answered the phone«Alex» informed my wife that I had called to reinstate our order and was extremely rude to her. Then I grabbed the phone where he proceeded to insinuate that I was lying and going on and on about how I had called him and spoken to him. When I inquired as to what my name and phone number were, he gave me a wrong name, and wrong phone number. Even at this Alex refused to apologize, refused to let me talk to a manager, and then told me a manager would call me the next morning. Thankfully I didn’t hold my breath. On top of it all, we’re still waiting to see if the charge gets reversed from our credit card.

Have you ever eaten overpriced sushi in Chicago? Who hasn’t? I mean: superfresh?! It’s Chicago, not Seattle, for God’s sake! Perfectly balanced taste?! It’s raw fish and rice! But… every once in a while magic does happen. Ambiance, real good(and colorful) chef, good combination(not balance — that’s for not falling!) of taste and freshness can truly create a miracle, AKA I don’t mind paying $ 50.00 for dinner. In Kamehachi, it just doesn’t happen: the food is decidedly normal, as are waitresses and presentation. Nothing really grabs you, except the waitress your money. Hey, if I wanted normal, I would be eating pancakes in IHOP.

I love sushi and I tried almost all Sushi places in the north west suburbs of Chicago. I was disappointed with sushi this time. I ordered Dragon roll where eel pieces were so small that I didn’t feel the taste at all, only dry tempura. For this price you can find much better Dragon roll somewhere else. Rice was cold and too firm. Our server Mike didn’t care much about our ten person table. I had to ask for green tea refill twice and when he did that he spoiled the tea over the table dropping in to soy sos. He didn’t even care that the table is all wet. The washroom is disgusting, dirty and there was no hands paper towel, I can image what they have in the kitchen. Overall the sushi here is way overpriced. I gave only two starts because I liked only two things«Ikura nigiri with quail eggs» and«Oyster Shooter»

The lunch specials are great at Kamehachi of Tokyo! They have two Bento Box options both of which are super delicious and lots of food. They are also reasonable priced for the amount of food. I personally had the Bento A which included miso soup to start then salad, edamame, ½ California Roll, Vegetable Tempura and a choice protein(Ton Katsu or Chicken Katsu). I had the chicken which was crusted with tempura or something and it came with Japanese BBQ dipping sauce. This was my first time trying the Japanese BBQ sauce and it a little bitter/salty for my taste buds. I posted a picture of the lunch menu. From the outside Kamehachi of Tokyo looks like a small restaurant but once you walk in it a BIG! I love the ambiance and décor of the entire place! The tables have glass tops that are filled with sand and rocks. It’s has a very serene and romantic feel to it… Definitely coming back soon!

Best sushi in the northern suburbs. It’s run well, clean, friendly staff. Same menu as their downtown old town location. The dragon roll, soft shell crab maki and tuna are the top items on the menu.

I began coming here with my grandparents when I was in high school. It’s very good quality sushi and a nice selection of Japanese menu items. Their Nabayeka Udon is out of this world. To be fair to Kamehachi I haven’t tried any of their nontraditional sushi items. Next time I go I will be sure to get something off the beaten path. Our service has always been good, but one time we were stuck at a table that had water dripping over us. They were very apologetic and I believe they took a few items off the bill. I’m not sure you will find a sushi/Japanese restaurant that is better in the area.
