In my opinion, Osaka is the best Asian restaurant in Northampton. The rolls are good(I recommend Tomo and Samurai), and katsudon and udon are also good. For sushi, the sashimi part of the sushi is just fine, but they tend to use too much rice, so I always end up halving it. Their sushi comes with no wasabi on the inside, that could be a plus or a minus depending on your preference. Hibachi is also a good choice; tastes great and it’s quite entertaining. The main thing that bothers me here is that the wait is always so long and it seems like they have a very inefficient way of managing it.

This place keeps going down in terms of quality and hygiene! Went for a friends birthday dinner and was completely turned off by the smell in the hibachi section. They clean the stove top with a wet CLOTH which is very unhygienic! Fell sick after coming back home and threw up all night. Never again!

Really, really boring hibachi. You can, and should, do better by driving up north to Goten.

The hibachi is great, even if a little on the expensive side. Waiters are usually on point and very responsive. Keep in mind that a reservation is always recommended, and even still they will probably seat you with a delay.

An 8:30 reservation on a Saturday night led to us being called for a table at 9:20. I’m glad they are so busy and enjoying so much success but if they can’t fit a group in, then tell me that when I call to make the reservation… not when I’ve waited almost an hour to be seated. Better off at Zen down the street!!!

This place is amazing, if I had to choose Benihana or Osaka I would definitely choose Osaka, being from the west coast, I have definitely found better food out in the east coast, will definitely come back.

Went for hibachi once. Not only was it dark and dismal, but the hibachi chefs left me in shock. They were practically forcing sake down peoples throats. They do this thing where they squirt it into your mouths and chant sake. I watched one woman half choke on it because she just took a bite of food and looked up to sake shooting at her. The customers were all practically shouting at each other they were so drunk. Did i mention that there were children watching this? The show was lacking as well. Lasted literally 2 minutes. And the food? All it was cooked with was just soy sauce… super salty and hard too. I ate my food. but only because i felt bad. Decent price for a lot of food… but i could make a better meal for myself at home for the same price or less. Left quickly probably won’t go back.

I’ve been here a few times but the quality of the food and service varies a lot. My first time I ordered the Samurai roll. It took forever to get to our table, while other families who had gotten there later than we did got their food first. When our food finally got to our table, I was disappointed. There was less pieces than I expected for the price, the pieces were tiny, and the presentation of the sushi was pretty horrible. I was still hungry afterwards, so I nibbled a bit of my friend’s Katsudon, which was pretty good. Second time I came here, I had the Katsudon since I liked what I tried of my friend’s. It was overwhelmingly sweet. They put too much sauce and it just ruined the dish for me. Third time I came here, the service was absolutely horrid. Two of us ordered the Tempura Udon and the other two ordered a fried rice dish. All of the dishes cames with a free Miso soup, but the only two that ordered fried rice got Miso soup. We had to ask our server where our Miso soup was, where he replied, «You ordered soup, why do you want soup?» He still brought us Miso soup but looked pretty annoyed at us. The Tempura was good, although it definitely could use more seasoning, as all the fried vegetables were bland. The onions in the Udon were disgusting. When it was time to pay, our waiter took forever with our cards. This, I later found out that my card was swiped, as I got a notification from my bank a few days later, asking if I had made an in store purchase for $ 300 at J. Crew and a $ 500 purchase at Sephora. This review barely deserves a 2 star, and it is only a 2 star because of the good food(although overpriced sushi). I’m not sure if I will be back to Osaka and if I do, I will be paying in cash. Even though Moshi Moshi is a bit more expensive, I will be going there more often.

We decided to give Osaka a try because it was an absolutely lovely evening for porch-dining. I thought the food was good — nothing out-of-this-world, but good. I concur with some of the other reviewers that the issue is the wait-staff. What really made my evening less pleasant was how rude they were to each other. The wait-staff was incredibly unprofessional and spent the evening making fun of and bullying a new employee. Firstly, they should know that some people do speak Chinese(yes, it was Mandarin) and can understand their conversations. Second, even if one doesn’t, it is obvious from the eye-rolling and tone. Unprofessional. The food was good, but the whole thing just made me sad.

Lovely ambience and location. I like the outdoor patio though it’s not exactly spacious. Prepare to hear everyone’s personal conversations. Food is decent. Prices average. My main beef is with the wait staff. Every time I go it’s like they can’t wait to get me my check and send me out. They have hovered over my table obsessively filling my water glass and asking if I had decided on a choice yet. Great for a quick bite, not good for a dinner date or for catching up with good friends.

We wanted to keep liking you but this was the straw… We recently went to Osaka to have dinner and everything was fine until we had a couple of really BAD Pieces of fish(Stripped Bass), I’m sure this happens once in a while to the best restaurants, the problem is how you deal with the fact that you served a bad piece of fish to a customer(we have been coming here for 4 years, more than 30 times with friends and family) not anymore! We called the waitress and told her that the fish wasn’t fresh and she told us she didn’t know what to do so she offered to send the manager to talk to us. The manager came, we explained the situation and told us that the fish is fresh adding«you don’t know what Stripped Bass tates like but I’ll take care of it» 15 minutes passed and the waitress came back and told us that the Manager decided to give us discount(–17.90 for 4 pieces of Sashimi and 2 pieces of Nigiri on a ~$ 60 check) we wanted more food but they were quick to bring us the check, to tell you the truth, the bad taste we had in our mouths wasn’t all because of the less than fresh piece of fish but more importantly the Manager’s attitude. With the check we got a message from the manager, via the waitress«Next time just don’t order the Stipped bass». After all these years eating here and enjoying the food, it is worth mentioning that we have never had the same waiter/waitress twice, and the turn around of staff here is the highest we have seen ever in a restaurant. Now I wonder if the stile of the Manager has something to do with it? Funny thing and food timming we met next day with a group of 10 colleagues and their spouses and wanted to meet at Osaka, we told them the story of the Fish and the Manager, needless to say and due to the size of the group, we ended up eating and drinking at ZEN on Main street. For a small family dinner, Moshi Moshi, here we come!

I tried it the day I moved in town and was excited they had katsudon, so I ordered it. The menu didn’t mention it came with mushrooms and I have never ordered one that had it in it, so that was already a small annoyance but even beyond that it was incredibly bland tasting. My boyfriend ordered a few sushi rolls and wasn’t impressed either with their quality. Even beyond the lackluster food the waitress came off as if she wanted to talk to us as little as possible, only asking what we wanted to order, no other communication with us, and once we had the food never talked to us again. It felt really rude and uninviting. I might try them again in the future just to see if it was an off day, but for now I’m looking around for better.

Pineapple fried rice with chicken instead of shrimp. Chicken was very tender and the dish itself was wicked tasty. I got the half half sushi roll which was also as good as it sounded when I was reading the menu. No pic cuz it was shared at the table but it was quite a colorful dish. The sweet citrus mixed with the chili was everything I had expected and more with the fresh fruit on top.

Osaka for sushi is one of the best around. Not because it’s great but really it’s this or moshi moshi. Both are somewhat over priced but for the area this is my go to. In truth if you want great sushi you’re gonna have to get out of the valley.

My wife and I don’t eat raw. But there is plenty on the menu to choose from. The sweet potato roll is excellent as is the Dragon roll and everything I have had from the hibachi. Anyways excellent service and the hibachi guys are d super entertaining!

This place has a great ambiance, fantastic sushi and incredible hibachi. The sushi was amazing very big list to go through so tons of choices. The hibachi was wonderful very basic but the chef did try to keep it entertaining at all times. Cooked everything really good nothing was crazy bad but just the rice was a little overloaded with soy sauce but that’s minor compared to everything else.

flying solo for lunch on valentine’s day. *sigh* i was determined to eat well so i came here, my fav sushi place in the valley so far. i’ll say right off it’s not my favorite sushi. fav sushi places are in portland OR and doylestown PA but here i am in greenfield MA, so … yeah. miso was hot. green tea, drinkable but not piping, which was fine by me. osmitashi(steamed cold spinach with bonito flakes and a peanutty sauce) was perfect and refreshing. i could’ve stopped after osmitashi and miso but for some reason i felt like i had to order a lot(trying to make this date with myself count, i guess), so: first up was the green phoenix roll –no rice, just spicy tuna, avocado and tobiko. it was a little messy but had a good kick and tasted fresh. the eel dragon roll was a tad disappointing — i’m accustomed to eel coming out warm, and this was cold all the way through. the buddha roll(avocado and honey roasted peanuts) is my go-to«dessert roll» at osaka and is pretty hard to mess up. i love it every time. service was brisk and attentive. they sat me out on the porch and i worried i’d be cold(we have a blizzard blowing through here right now) but it was fine, the heater was kickin. they had authentic japanese koto music playing overhead which, coupled with the falling snow, made for a serene dining experience. i ordered way too much food for someone who hasn’t really eaten more than, oh, two full meals in about 10 days(relates to the«flying solo» part) but now i have leftovers for dinner. since i’ll be hunkered down in the storm, this is definitely a «win.» price — $ 40. not the cheapest lunch in the world — and, if i’m honest, not even the best — but it made me happy today.

Last night we went to Osaka to celebrate my wife’s birthday and after our meal here we were a bit dissapointed with the decline in our experience. Below were the frustrating results of our evening. 1. We made reservations for 8pm and didn’t get seated until after 8:30pm. 2. Our waitress was rude and short from the beginning of our night. In the end she rushed us out very quickly. 3. We ordered sushi and when it came our chef had begun cooking. The sushi was sloppy and it fell apart. 4. Our hibachi chef was definitely not happy to be there and provided a lackluster show. He actually forgot to throw the food in our mouth and did it at the end of the meal. He didn’t even cook the zucchini but flung it at us cold and raw. In the end, we have enjoyed the majority of our experiences here but the last two have been rough. I still give it three stars because it is the best hibachi restaurant in the area, but they need to get back to the basics.

We went here with friends that came in from the UK. All seven of us sat a hibachi table and all but one got hibachi. The cook was great. He really put on a good show and everyone laughed and shouted. The food was delicious and the drinks were great. The women got lychee martinis and the waiter was gracious enough to bring extra lychee for the boys. We had a great time. Some language issues with a busboy but otherwise great meal.

Osaka’s sushi was lower quality than expected. Great seating though outside as well as the best ice cream store right across. Atmosphere: great outdoor deck area with ample seating! Food: the nori seaweed around the sushi was quite chewy which either means they did not toast it before rolling and/or it was sitting around for a while. Both the salmon and the hamachi was not as fresh as I would’ve hoped, tasting fishier than normal. Tempura soft shell crab had a very thick later of batter. Service: fast and good service with no complaints there Save room for the ice cream store across the street afterwards!
