Would always come here as a kid with my family and I loved it. I live in Berwyn so I occasionally pass by and its sad not seeing as many houses participate as before. I hope Forest Ave. comes to an agreement soon. Would love to see the Halloween décor again.

Second year coming… and it didn’t disappoint! It’s true there were not as many houses that participated this year… but the ones who did… were stellar! This is one of our favorite spots to hit during the season and rightfully so! Put my little cheesy yard display to shame! Awesome ideas! Very cool people! And a family friendly atmosphere! Was joking with my friends yesterday how I need to move here — take over a place that no longer decorates! ;p ~~ Joking of course, I’m sure they have their reasons… but hope they reconsider. Awesome job guys! Batman was killer! Can’t go wrong with Charlie Brown! Saw! Jumping spiders, and the ever popular graveyards! Wish the pirate yard was lighted when we went! But still got some great pics! Loved your volcano!

SPECIALNOTE: Attention fans of Freaky Frights. Freaky Frights on Forest is not, nor never has been a function or affiliated with the Village of North Riverside. All rumors of Freaky Frights not being what it was, because of city cutbacks is simply not true. No tax dollars were ever used in the design and creation of this event. This is done by the love of the holiday, from a select few neighbors, who want to put a smile on visiting families faces. Its done from their pockets, with their time. The reasons for it being slimmed down is simply because a couple individuals simply choose not to participate anymore. The only involvement from the city has been that they don’t want us doing this on such a grand scale anymore. No sponsorship support from local businesses and no promotions. They tried to stop it, but can’t. It’s pretty sad that a few complaints from just a couple people not even involved can make such a stink. This is something fun for families. Something totally free. Things like this are a dying breed. In this world and economy, why would anyone be opposed to this? It’s a safe, fun family attraction that won’t break the bank. There has been problems with a few bad apples and opposition from some who find this event and irritation, but it will still continue in some form.

I actually found out about this in the Chicago Tribune this past Sunday so my husband and I took a ride over there. Basically it’s about 5 – 7 houses that are decorated this year. The whole 2300 block did not participate this year. They had a sign up saying that North Riverside cut back on funds and that is why they have no decorations out. I don’t know why the house owners couldn’t put up what they already had for decorations, despite the cutbacks. Anyway, it is cool to drive by but I was disappointed after hearing all the hype.
