Ray’s Barber Unisex

Dilapidated dingy place. I walked in and older gentleman greeted me. After I told him that I’m here for a haircut he pointed me down the alley of about 12 chairs and said something along the lines of «Yosil will take care of you», after which he immediately continued doing whatever he was doing. I stared into the abyss of barber chairs and wondered who is Yosil and where is his chair. Two barbers both wearing headphones sat in customer chairs and none of them even flinched as I started walking down the alley. I passed by complementary bottle of whiskey which some might find attractive. With a ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ chance of Yosil being the first guy I sat in the chair opposite to him and was gestured to keep walking. Now sure that Yosil is the other guy I sat in the chair opposite to the second guy. Turned out I was correct about the guy but wrong about the chair, the one to the right of it was actually his. Finally I’m in the right chair I got the right guy we are golden. «Yosil» comes up and takes one ear bud out of his ear and says «You tell me». This is starting to reminding me of a scene from «Hostel», should have had that shot of whiskey on the way in. I described the haircut I’m going for and Yosil with no comments or questions puts the earbud back in and in silence goes to work on my hair. I’m sitting and feeling guilty that my haircut is in the way of this guy’s enjoyment of splendid choice of music on his phone. 15 minutes later I’m presented with mediocre haircut and walk out of this place. So if your standard for quality of the haircut, look of the place, customer service, or price is «whatever» that’s the right place, the only plus is if your spouse is shopping in one of the stores on that plaza you might kill time by getting a haircut and get a shot of whiskey to boot.

I’ve been coming to this place for 11 years plus I have had different barbers and they all are really good. I don’t even book an appointment because my time is random but I know that if my barber is not available I can trust any other barber there. I don’t even live close!

The service here is above and beyond. They greeted me as soon as I walked in and they got my son within 5 minutes. They’re definitely busy but there is no feeling of being rushed. They let me sit closer to him and offered me delicious coffee. Everyone is courteous and the atmosphere is very relaxed. I like how clean it is as well. It’s like they have a ninja sweeping the hair away. The most important part is that my son’s cut looks great and it’s because Loly pays great attention to detail even though it’s a simple cut.

My husband needed a mustache trim and we stumbled across this place. The guys here are so friendly and welcoming. The trimed his stache to shape his mouth and even offered to clean up his sideburns and neck edges. He looked dapper for the wedding. Highly recommend this place! It’s a must for those men with staches!

Today, many hair salons feel like factories where the stylists resemble assembly line workers. Fortunately, the amiable charm of Ray’s Barber Shop reminds us that being a capitalist and an artisan are not mutually exclusive. Thank you for maintaining your wonderful shop in our community!
