Mmmmmm, burgers. I’ve seen this spot here and there on Unilocal and after doing a summertime half marathon, I could think of no better reward than chowing down at Tay’s. They call this a burger shack for a reason; it’s a small, off the side of the road style shack. When we walked in we heard oldies music piping through the little joint, and loved the simple menu where they aren’t trying to be the jack of all trades. I got a double with the standard dress(lettuce, tomato, pickles and cheese). The double is the perfect size because they’re 3.25 ounce patties, so it’s not monstrous but is definitely enough burger. They bake the buns fresh each day too and they’re solid. Back at the table, they have a sriacha ketchup and sriacha mayo that were each so good to dip the hand cut fries in. The fries are salty with a bit of a spicy blend. I loved them. The cook popped out to ask us how we liked everything and specifically remarked about the beef which really is worth the trip. It’s an 80⁄20 organic, local grass fed beef that stands on its own. This is not the kind of place that needs a fancy schmancy, jalapeño popper, bacon, aioli topped what have you. This is the kind of place where the classic burger does the talking and is best when simplified.

I drove past this little unassuming joint a few dozen times before I decided to give it a try. Boy am I glad I did. They weren’t very busy and the owner told me about his desire to have a little burger place that sold high-quality burgers, with a limited, simple menu. I took a group of co-workers on Friday, and this is definitely going to be one of our go-to places. Everyone really enjoyed the siracha mayo for the fries and I think I miht have to go back today for lunch…

After reading a few excellent reviews of Tay’s I found myself in NKC on Thursday a few minutes after Noon and decided to give their Organic Grass Fed Beef burgers a try. I arrived a few minutes before my friend and since it was busy I scouted out one of the only 2 empty tables(both were dirty but quickly cleaned by their attentive employees). Their single patties are just under a ¼ lb so we got 2 doubles(which include cheese, lettuce pickles tomato and if you’d like Carmelized onions as well) as a combo with hand cut fries and a soft drink which cost us a total of $ 20. The burgers are delicious! I don’t eat burgers very often but the local grass fed organic beef was yummy, and add the chipotle ketchup and chipotle mayo that is available on each table and you have a combination that will bring me back again along with any guest willing to make a little trek across the river with me.

What a great find! The burgers are delicious. They use organic grass fed beef. You can even buy it to take home uncooked. The fries are great. You can even buy a bottle of soda made with real sugar. We chose to sit outside. I got a single burger and unseasoned fries and loved it! Will definitely be coming back!

Very good! Never disappoints and is very consistent time after time. Fries are very good as well and the homemade chipotle ketchup is the best around!

Tay’s burger Shack is sneaky good. I love an unassuming place that hits you hard with good solid food. You want a burger and fries… boom…this is your place… if you want something else… you’ll have to keep going, as they’re menu is short and beefy… only beefy… one, two, or three patties short… Small place, 20 – 30 seats, order at the counter, fountain drinks or bottles of soda are available. Make sure to get the fries with extra seasoning, as the natural cut and seasoning is a perfect compliment to a grass fed burger. The burgers are simply good… well seasoned with lettuce, tomato and pickle. Our order was to go, but I noticed they had a couple of house sauces, that looked really good, one was a sirracha ketchup, I really wanted to try, wish I had made a to go cup for my burger. My mouth is watering as I think about it… Anyway, burger Shack, should be called… one damn good burger place… another good food option in the northland…

If you are on the interstate get off now. Drive past the fast food and stop at Tay’s. First the way I was greeted and quickly educated was amazing. Next. The grass fed organic burgers are amaxing. Simple fact, they just taste better. No extra junk. Fries are hand cut after you order. You get the whole spud. You can get drinks in bottles instead of fountain, you get both choices. The service was the best part of all. The cashier was very engaging. I can’t wait to come back. Might become a regular. Trust Unilocal on this one. Worth the drive.

I had a very tasty Burger and Fries here. This is a no frills place, but they use fresh high quality ingredients which makes all of the difference. This is also one of the few burger joints in town that actually has proper caramelized onions that add a very rich savory flavor to the burger without the overbearing onion flavor taking over. This is not an onion that has been thrown over the grill for 1 minute and called caramelized, these are cooked down in butter until translucent and flavorful(as caramelized onions should be). Good place, excellent food.

Tay’s burger shack is one of the best burger joints in the Northland. Competing with LC’s, Pigwich, and Town Topic for the area Tay’s competes with the best and comes out delicious. My favorite menu on the item is the chili cheese fries. Somehow the combination of the spiciness of the fries and the meaty, savory chili beats out Town Topic’s own. The burgers are always fresh and customizable; fries are hand-cut and well flavored, while hot dogs taste like a ballpark frank(actually Nathan’s dogs, so pretty close) with quality toppings to choose from. The toppings aren’t many but burgers have better taste then Five Guys or Hayes. Combined with a decent custard and bottled soda the average lunch tends to be greasy yet filling. These burgers aren’t high-end like a Cheesecake Factory or Pigwich sandwich, but the price and quick order turn-around make up for that. The locale is wonderful, a pseudo-nostalgia feel with a 50’s flair. Nothing overwhelming, a couple of TVs and a nice outdoor seating for the summertime. It is well balanced and isn’t terribly busy so the seating hasn’t ran out yet. Parking is mainly gravel, so be prepared for some mud on a rainy day. The server/register/front employee is helpful and knowledgeable on the menu. Later at night they are friendly and will provide plenty of small talk while waiting on the food to be prepared. The pricing is great for the quality and volume of food compared to Hayes and LC’s. 1 – 5 Ratings, Overall: 4 Locale and ambience: 4 Friendliness: 5 Food: 4 Price: 4

I have to say I love Tay’s burgers. Today I found out that they purchase their organic grass fed beef(probably why some people think it is priced high) from another KC local establishment Anton’s. The fries have a hint of spice and sweet seasoning and have that home cut fry feel and taste. The burgers are delious! My job always goes and brings lunch to our meetings from Tay’s! A+++ A North Kansas City Gem!!! Burger 9.75 Fries 9.25

This is a lucky find for me and I can’t wait to go back. The is a tiny little place with a lot of attitude and style. I felt like a had found a little small town shack that was blessed to sell burgers. The poor staff was having a lot of trouble with their internet and luckily they weren’t busy. I think I met the owner and he was nice and obviously proud of his place. I do have to admit that the woman who took my order did annoy me a little as she kept calling me ‘hon’ and besides the fact that she was young enough to be my daughter(I admit, that is one of my pet peeves, if you are young enough to be my child — you should not be calling me honey or sweety, it might be one of the only times I would welcome someone calling me ‘sir.’) The burger was amazing — it’s a flat burger and the single was enough for me but people with a bigger appetite can definitely make the burger bigger. The fries were fantastic. I cannot wait to go back to this place.

I was pretty impressed with this little«Shack». The atmosphere is somewhere between a truck stop and a 50’s diner. There was 50’s music playing on the TV, which I found kind of neat. There are neat little snarky signs all over the place, such as the one over the door to the kitchen that says, «In case of fire, freak out and run like hell!». Several of them made me chuckle. The overall dining room isn’t very large, but it was clean, and you should be able to find a seat if they aren’t terribly busy. There are picnic tables outside if the weather is good. The service was great. The lady taking orders was a sweetheart. I ordered a single bacon cheeseburger combo and a chili cheese dog(just to try it ;). Everything I had was really good. Actually, it was good enough that I finished both the burger and the chili dog and most of the fries. My only complaint, if there must be one, is that they use shredded iceburg lettuce on the burger. I prefer whole leaf iceburg lettuce. It just has a better crunch and flavor. The bun on both the burger and the hot dog were toasted nicely. They use Nathan’s hot dogs, which I really like. The chili actually tasted like they made it in house, not out of a can. The fries are«natural», meaning they leave the skins on, and were crunchy and well seasoned. NOTE: You add your own liquid condiments, so don’t bother asking for mayo, mustard, or ketchup on your burger. They are on the tables.

I’m from Georgia and work up here in KC. Being a truck driver there are many burger joints across the country. Tay ’ s is excellent !! I went conservative and got a single with cheese all the way. You can get grilled onions but I chose raw. Shredded lettuce tomatoes and pickles. Hand cut fries with some seasoning. The menu is simple, burgers and dogs, fries and custard. I’ve been twice now and it will be a regular thing. …probably twice a month or so. The Combo I had was only $ 8.53 total. Quality and inexpensive. … can’t go wrong.

This used-to-be bar has been completely revamped into an awesome, trendy little burger joint with clever signage and retro décor covering the walls. I was pleasantly surprised by how cool this place is. And what more, the food is pretty darn tasty! I wasn’t too hungry so I just got the single combo which will run you about $ 8 bucks. Worth it. The burger wasn’t too flashy but it had great flavor and it was juicy rather than greasy, nice change I suppose. The fries were house cut, seasoned, and unique. They had sort of a kick to them, which was bueno! The only questionable thing about this joint would be the staff. Like, they were nice and all, but kind of strange. No hellos were given when we walked in. But when we walked up to the counter, a girl just appeared from behind the desk and took our order with this eerie dissonance. I may be a little dramatic, but hey, whatevs. I’m coming back for more burgers.

Once upon a time, I used to smoke and would get all my cigars at Tobacco House. I don’t smoke anymore and Tobacco House is gone replaced by Tay’s Burger Shack. The ambience is just laid back diner. They had some old school tunes on which was a plus for me. I ordered a Triple Burger combo. Don’t judge, I was starving. The burger patties were thin, but really satisfying(think like a Winstead’s Steakburger) and perfectly seasoned. The bun was almost like a brioche bun. The fries were well seasoned and really good. Another thing I loved was that they also served some soda by the bottle. They also have a pretty decent outdoor area to enjoy this beautifull weather and have a burger. Now be warned, this is no McDonald’s and there is no $ 1 value menu. They are a bit higher, but I think well worth it for a well made, locally owned product. I am glad I work close by. I’ll definitely be back.
