I only go to this place for their lunch special. $ 5 out the door, you cant beat that anywhere. The food is decent not great but again for 5 bucks it’s better then anything else you will get. The guy running the place is very nice and friendly. I think hes does everything, I have never seen another employee.

The chicken lo mein is good! The cashew beef is tender and delicious(beef is medium cooked). The prices are also pretty reasonable. Would go again.

Stopped by with my boyfriend because we were craving Chinese food. I didn’t really expect much from this place. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted. Quon(the guy helping us) told us he was finishing someone’s order and then he’d be right with us and to grab a drink from the fridge while we waited. A couple of minutes later he comes and takes our order. Very friendly guy. Made us feel comfortable right away. We ordered the house lo mein, egg rolls and orange chicken. He went to the back and started making our order. About 10 minutes later he comes back with our egg rolls. They were delicious. I hadn’t had egg rolls like these in while! About 5min after that we got the rest of our food along with complimentary steamed rice. The lo mein was okay. I probably wouldn’t get it again. The orange chicken was delicious though. Perfectly crispy and the sauce was great. I’d definitely get that again. Our total came out to about $ 21 for the both of us. Solid food at a good price and the owner is fantastic. I’ll definitely return.

If you’re the kind of person who sees a hole-in-the-wall and immediately gets excited about potential treasure, add this place to your list. Grab a book, some cash, and a bottle of water, and head on down to Hot Wok for the insane lunch special. You’ll eat a good meal for ~$ 5 and get some reading done, as the place is run by one guy and service will be very unpredictable. If he’s not out front, it’s because he’s cooking something delicious in the kitchen. I’d just say to sit, let him know you’re there, be nice, and let him get to you when he gets to you. I had the Broccoli Shrimp lunch special – he asked if I wanted it spicy, I said hell yes, and it was so good. The food was fresh and the broccoli was perfect – cooked but crunchy. I really like broccoli. I also really like to read. Now I like to read while eating broccoli and shrimp at Hot Wok.

Delicious hole in the wall Chinese food restaurant. Recently moved a block away. Great for take out, and as other reviews mention, it’s a one man show. Very reasonably priced and great food for the value.

Last week we ordered few dishes from Hot Wok, we loved the food. Over the phone, the owner/chef told us he will do his best, when I went to pick up the food, he was very courteous. All the dishes — chicken fried rice, string beans with chicken and vegetable chowmein were great. We will come here again.

So yummy! I ordered the Chicken Lo Mein, great lunch special price, and I love it! The bean sprouts are crunchy, the chicken is juicy and has a great taste, and every noodle makes my tongue dance! I totally recommend this place. Everybody loves a good hole in the wall!

This place is incredible. I use to go every weekend when i was pregnant. Beside the fact that there is only one man working as both cook & waiter, the food is especially delicious. I recommend the egg drop soup & the orange chicken, although everything else is just as good. You may have to wait a bit for the food but trust me its worth it.

I’m about to give it one star review but the man in the restaurant in charge was nice and very upbeat. Service is slow as there’s only one cooks and takes orders. The food, where should I start… Ordered the fried chicken as the app, not bad you can taste the spice that was used. The Orange Chicken was overfried, too much sauce, and chicken seems questionable. Speaking of questionable the hunan beef looks less enticing, it taste like used rags. Overall, i don’t need to down the business any far less I gave. I always say, «…when in Rome.»

Pretty bomb tasting food for great prices. Not the cleanest place I’ve been too but that’s probably cuz he’s too busy pushing out delicious food. Highly recommend the shrimp/green bean and the orange chicken.

Small place, decent food, nice owner, clean place, they need to serve hot tea, and need more help. The owner is the host, the cook, and the server, so expect a wait if more than a couple of people waiting. The best thing to do is order ahead of time and then go pick it up. They’re cash only, no credit or debit taken.

Food is really good quality at a really great price, and the guy who has run it for years completely by himself, the owner/chef, ‘Quang’ is an interesting, caring dude as well. So that’s a win-win tasty dealio. I always ask him to make me broccoli with white meat chicken and garlic spicy and it’s a good thing, every time. People seem to really dig his orange chicken. Having eaten here, probably 20 times now, I have had the consistent experience of always enjoying my food and leaving happy. For a place i can eat healthy and have a tasty meal for under $ 7, I think that’s a 5ive-star dealio.

CASHONLY! Let me get one thing across before I start my review: everyone who left a lower than 4 star rating did so because of how dirty the place looks. I never knew that looking at dirty phones, old 1990’s equipment, and one single hard working man could affect how your food tastes when you take it home to eat. Seriously: this guy runs everything solo! If it’s rush hour for him, expect a delay for your food. Be like me and call ahead. The food is excellent! Best and decent priced Chinese food I’ve ever had! I usually go with my usual dishes here: Lo mein noodles with chicken or just veggies Orange chicken Kung pow chicken Garlic chicken And a lot of free steamed rice! If you’re a fan of orange chicken, and you have not tried it at Hot Wok, you’re missing out on delicious happiness. The Kung pow is like 40% chicken, 60% veggies. Man oh man. I’m getting hungry for Hot Wok by just writing this review!

The owner here is so hard-working. He is a beast. Cashier, hostess, chef, busboy and owner. And I thought I multi-tasked well. His work ethic alone deserves a big tip. The restaurant itself is quaint. Seat yourself. There’s a TV and a handful of tables. Not packed and only a few tables were occupied at one time which makes it manageable for him. The food is so affordable, freshly cooked and made-to-order obviously as you can hear and see him making your food. I ordered the kung pao chicken by Unilocal’s recommendation but it was a bit bland. I sprinkled some salt on it and the flavor just came to life. It was delicious. My wonton soup only had 4 wontons in it but it was good. We Also had the house lo mein, house fried rice, orange chicken, fried chicken wings(6), and everything was good. Cops like to eat here so don’t even think of running out on the bill or taking advantage of this super nice man. He takes pride in his work. Be nice to him. Bookmarked this place and will be back. Cash only. Bottled water for $ 1 and canned sodas to choose from. I think because he’s by himself he doesn’t have time trying to fill your free tap water as he is busy doing more important things like cooking your food, so they don’t offer cups of water here, lol. Quick food, fast service, affordable, and delicious. Made to order, freshly cooked, and doesn’t have that overly greasy feeling. The owner is super nice. 5 stars, and I’m out.

For the price and quality, this is a place to go if you are in the area and are on that starving student or artist budget. Or if you are like me, are looking for a great deal. The portions are generous and the service is friendly despite the fact it is a one man show. I’ve only ordered take out and everything has been good. I have to give a shout out to the mom and pop places, especially this one. Looking forward to coming back to this hole-in-the-wall gem.

First and foremost, the quality of the food is great. Secondly, the service of the host/server/cook/owner is beyond measure, as this is a one man operation. Finally, the value is pretty much unbeatable. Don’t support big chain Panda Express, help the little guy out. This man has been running his business for over 20 years. Do not be fooled by appearance. I’ve tried the chicken lo mein and orange chicken, both of which have tasted consistently great.

The lunch special is a lot of food for under $ 5 and cheap metered parking in front and back was abundant. The food was average for this scale of restaurant. But, there were some peculiarities that made me wonder; the owner didn’t want to serve me water, saying it’s tap water. Does that mean the plumbing is bad? Don’t all restaurants in L.A. serve tap water? They also don’t have… 1) hot mustard! 2) fountain drinks 3) air-conditioning. 4) metal knives 5) hot tea 6) Credit card processing It’s kind of a one-man, bare-bones operation.

2015 Unilocal100CHALLENGE — 091⁄100 A friend brought me here over the weekend and it was overall a good experience. Cheap prices, and delicious food. My friend got the egg rolls and orange chicken which looked delicious. And I got the wonton soup which was great! This is your average hole in the wall with plastic utensils only, soda cans in a small fridge, and cash only so be prepared. But the owner is really great. He is polite, hard working, and the only one there! Service was a little slow because of that, but other than that, he was a really nice guy and the food was really good.
