Eco Trader

I am so happy I found this place. Mike, the owner was a pleasure to work with. He helped me find great carpet for my two rooms. I ended up with two really high quality carpets (each room was different) for the same price as cheap carpet from Home Depot and could not be happier. The installer he recommended, Richard, was awesome too. I can’t wait to change the carpet in my other two rooms.

I wrote this review in 2010 for this place, which has a duplicate listing under «San Fernando, CA» two years later, I am still pleased by my experience and would definitely go back there, if I needed additional flooring pieces.

I was in need of a small piece of vinyl or linoleum flooring to put in my van (ripped out the carpet) and I saw an ad somewhere online for this company, which stated they stock all sorts of carpet and tile remnants. I drove out to the Valley and found this place tucked away in an industrial enclave near Sherman Way and Van Nuys blvd. Pretty quiet and obscure. I took a look around and found the color I was looking for. The guy working there, Mike, was very helpful, cut off my piece and was able to work within my price point /​budget. I even locked my keys in the van when I went into the back to measure. I had called roadside assistance but when he took a look at it he said he could fix it within minutes. Then he did! He loaded my roll of flooring into my van and I was on my way. I am super appreciative of my experience and more people should check this business out! They have some really cool colors and patterns for vinyl flooring (and a ton of carpet) and you can probably find all sorts of things not available new in hardware stores or other home improvement businesses.

This company is awesome! I’ve used their services 3x now and would recommend them to anyone.

Knowledge is power! We live in a time where you can buy similar items in a variety of stores and prices are competitive. Mike at Eco Trader has 30yrs in the carpet biz and the info and guidance he offers come with no additional charge. Our installer started raving about the quality of the carpet Mike recommended while he was working with it. We could not be more pleased. And we saved a TON by the way.

Furnishing a baby’s room is hard. I mean, seriously. When it comes to furniture, you not only have to select what’s safe, but, isn’t too dangerous when he climbs up on it, isn’t too high when he decides to jump on it, and is easy to clean up when he projects bodily waste onto it.
That’s where Eco-​Trader comes in for carpet. They’re not totally inexpensive, and the downside is since you’re buying remnants, if it’s a newer roll, you have to purchase the whole thing. The upside is: you’re not picking carpet from small little patches. Also, the owner will actually give you a primer in the different types of carpet and the pros and cons of each, and store the carpet until you’re ready to have it installed. (we bought ours in late April and he stored it until early June).
We purchased a carpet that was thick, perfect for the room, and super easy to clean. We LOVE it.
**WARNING** I didn’t want to reduce his rating for this, because the rating is for eco trader and not the installer, but I think its worth mentioning. We spent quite a bit on a huge remnant, much larger than what we needed (but about 12 feet, in fact)-but we LOVED the carpet.
We used Juan, the installer he recommended. The installation was fine-​not great, but fine. BUT: I **very, very** clearly told him that we wanted to keep the remainder of the carpet as there was about 12 feet left and the carpet was a one of a kind so, if something happened to it, that’s it.
He ignored that and took it anyway. After 4 phone calls he brought it back with no explanation or apology.
I would still definitely use eco trader again, but I would ask for another installer.
