The Chinese sign of this new store caught my eyes while going to Hayats Kitchen for dinner a couple months ago. I walked into the store and was greeted by Mandy, the wife of Michael, the owner. She handed me a 20% off coupon and told me that I won’t be disappointed by their cakes. I went back a few weeks later to order a cake, since I didn’t place an order ahead of time, they said it would take about 15 min. Sure enough when i returned to the store, the cake was ready. It looked delicious but i didn’t get to try it, nevertheless, received good feedback from the family that I gave the cake to. To satisfy my own curiosity, I offered to bring cake to the office for our potluck last Friday, it really hit the spot. Everybody enjoyed it even after having a heavy lunch as the cake was light and not loaded with sugar. It was also very fresh although I picked up the cake the night before our potluck lunch. Other than buying two cakes from them, I have been to the store several times as they also make tasty hot pastries. You can get a chicken, beef or potato pastry for 90 cent each. My favorite is the potato pastry. The egg tarts are good too. They have flaky buttery crust and are not overly sweet like those served at the Chinese dim sum restaurants. I have yet to try their cookies, they are look good. In addition to the Chines cakes and pastries, they carry a large selection of middle eastern pastries that are freshly made on the premises. I bought some for the office, they were gone in no time. With the holidays around the corner, you can count on this place to bring a smile on your guests’ faces.

A solid shop for Chinese goods in the Valley. The owner is a super friendly guy that puts service as his top priority. The prices are very cheap(a container of cookies is $ 2, large cakes are in the 10s) and the sweets are tasty. This isn’t a place to get high on sugar(i.e. some shops overload their stuff with an excessive amount of sugar). It has the right amount of sweetness to make you feel satisfied and happy. It’s very reminiscent of the sweets I used to get i n Chinatown as a kid. Thankfully, I only have to drive a couple miles to come here rather than go to Chinatown. If you’re in the neighborhood for some good sweets, give this shop a try! The place is a bit hard to find as there isn’t clear signage. It’s two or 3 shops to the right of Hayats Kitchen(if you know where this is). There are good amount of parking spots except during dinner when one of the other restaurnats turns half the lot into Valet parking(what’s the point of this lol — If I drive up to the valet, the parking spots are next to where I drop off my car, so I’m paying someone to move my car 2 ft).

Normally I don’t buy cookies, but after the owner described the butter cookies and personally vouched for them, I was sold… and then they were sold… and then I was happy… and then they were gone… and then I was sad. #cookienomster This bakery is one of the few Chinese bakeries in the valley. It’s on the small side– but so are the prices. For 7 dollars I got a container full of butter cookies that mysteriously disappeared, a meringue walnut cookie the size of my two fists combined, a container of crunchy almond pastries, and an individual sized chocolate buttercream cake. All of it was delicious. Next time I think I’m going to add a full sized cake… because I can. The themes I identified were sweets with less sugar and customer happiness(not just satisfaction, happiness). The owner thoroughly explained the different levels of sweetness for each item and was genuine about wanting me to like everything I walked away with. He couldn’t be more helpful and I really couldn’t be more happy. Oh, the cherry on top? This bakery is conveniently located in the same plaza as Hayat’s Kitchen, so there’s ample parking and it’s within walking distance of my favorite Lebanese restaurant.
