We call it Aragat’s Market. That’s what the sign says. I’m pretty much a regular there. I’d probably stop in nearly everyday if they didn’t have a $ 10 card minimum. Sometimes I just need one or two things…
Anyway, the reason to come to this market is for the following:
Small but inexpensive selection of fresh produce
Fresh baked Armenian breads
Fresh deli made Armenian specialties, hummus, tabouli, etc.
Grilled meats, kabob, lula, etc.
Bulk items: walnuts, raisins, assorted candy
Eggs, yogurt
Spices
Things NOT to purchase from this store
Canned goods
Cooking oils
Butter
Jarred foods
Most refrigerated items
Most items on shelves
Cheese (its a hit or miss, they will try to sell an old piece first)
I have enjoyed on many occasions several fresh made items from the deli. Their hummus is rich and creamy. The tabouli is excellent and has a spicy kick. I highly recommend the eggplant caviar, the sliced marinated aubergines and the beet yogurt salad with pomegranate seeds. I’m not crazy about their baba ganoush. I think they add cumin and it isn’t really working for me.
As far as groceries go, please go somewhere else. I’ve seen dates years past their expiration date sitting on the shelves. I even unknowingly ate a jarred eggplant that was a year old. I lived to tell the story but play it safe now.
And now a few notes about customer service. The owner is extremely friendly and down to earth, but hardly ever there. There are two other men who hold down the fort, sort of. One can be extremely friendly on one occasion and act like he’s never seen you the next. Im talking a 10 on the emotional spectrum and then a 1. The other gentleman who sits at the front and wears a lot of gold chains usually cooks the kabobs and is grumpy as can be. It’s tough to make him smile. Believe me, I’ve tried.
I’ve ordered cooked food from them for dinner when we have guests. It has always been good and very reasonably priced. However, If you call to order ahead of time, I strongly recommend you have them repeat the order back with total otherwise you’re likely to have double the order and double the price waiting for you when you arrive. Believe me this has ocurred several times and each time they swore it was what I ordered and then had quite the attitude when I said it was more than I asked for.

Best Armenian barbecue! Everything was very delicious. I would recommend this place to anybody who loves to eat good food!

This place is a scam. Make sure to weigh in your food when you order because they will sell you short. Its a shame because this place has great food but bad management.

Okay so I go back to get some more photos… I got the okay from the owner. The employees starting yelling at me! I almost pooped my pants. I think I turned white. The owner came back from the back and told the employees «it’s fine.» At which point I ran out of the store in search of a change of underwear.
