I stopped by this place for lunch today after finding it on Unilocal. No one was there at 1pm and he gentleman cooking and running the store was a gem! I had the falafel pita and baklava to go. It was a short wait and I perused the grocery, finding some neat items that are difficult to find elsewhere, like tubs of tahini the size of your head. I couldn’t pass up a Lebanese strawberry soda to round out my lunch and some Jordan almonds for the hubs. You MUST get the hot sauce when you order the falafel sandwich. There is warm well-spiced falafel wrapped in warm chewy pita bread with crisp lettuce and cucumbers topped with a creamy tahini sauce and jazzed up with hot sauce that I’m SO glad he asked whether I wanted. This will definitely be a regular lunch place for me!

Food was great but options were limited. I wish that they had more of a shawarma selection and more bread than pita. I really wanted chicken shawarma on yufka. But other than that the restaurant was great and I’ll be going back.

This is a lunch place and I arrived at dinner. Only person in the place. I had the Gyro platter and even though it was not right off the spot and warmed up it was still was still much above average. The rice was well seasoned and tasty the salad a nice change from iceberg and the hummus was good. And I’m not a hummus guy. Would love to get a gyro fresh off the spit so I have to try and arrive in lunch hours. owner was very nice. I will return and so should you.

I blame Google maps for giving me such a hard time to find this place. Or the construction. something, but for those looking for this place, it is next to Sake. That out of the way, I walked into Jerusalem Mart and Deli and was greeted SO warmly by the guy behind the counter. A smile that said, «wow am I glad your here». What a great feeling right. I ended up ordering the falafel sandwich to go. I was walking around the store just looking at the variety of goods, and out from behind the counter comes another pleasant face. He is equally as polite and started up a little conversation with me. $ 7.99 for most of the sandwiches, which is not up there, but paired with fries and a drink, its $ 10. Its filling and was definitely delicious, but teetering towards the $$ category. If in the area, definitely worth visiting. Ill see you there.

ain’t much good out this way. This is a very nice find. Very good reasonably priced food. Nicely flavored baba and chicken gyro with turmeric rice. Lots of good middle eastern grocery items as well. Skip the BBQ chain, go here.

This place is so cute. I think the sandwhich is a little pricey but it’s a small business so it is understandable. I had the chicken gyro. It was fresh, tasted great and was messy ! Definitely tastes like home cooking. The shop itself has all types of things for sale including hookas. While the food cooked, I enjoyed walking around and looking.

If you are ever in the area, you must stop here! The kofta platter is the best! It may look small and feel like you will be starving at the end. But don’t let it fool you! It is a filling meal after the rice, meat, hummus and pita(vegetable salad too if your into that). Everything is also great with a splash of homemade hot sauce. You won’t regret coming here!

Oh, how I love this place! They offer some of the best Middle Eastern food this side of the Atlantic. There are so many great items on the shelf for sale. It’s like a little deli and supermarket all in one. It took me forever to find it. It’s on the SIDE of Sake House restaurant. I never knew stores were on the sides! Find it. Channel your inner falafel. You won’t be disappointed!

The best middle eastern market with the friendliest owner and great prepared food. I hope this is an establishment that lasts a long time! They have everything you need for middle eastern cooking.

This place is the Cinderella story of Unilocal, and the reason I have become so fond of Unilocal as well. I will start with the way many do, don’t be folled by the outside, or difficulty in locating it, it’s worth it. I ordered the kofta platter which is served with a vegetable, hummus, rice, and warm pits bread. The kofta is so good iteself, they cook it to order and warn you It takes about 15 min to cook, it’s worth the wait. The beef is so tender and has such unique flavor, not overpowering, just perfect. The vegetables are a mix of freshly chopped vegetables, I can attest that they do it there as while I was waiting for my lunch one of the two guys, very nice by the way, we’re feverishly chopping the fresh mix just a few feet from me. Lastly is the hummus, this is something I have grown to enjoy. Theirs was really good, super smooth with just a little oil to add some flavor, I was power dipping it with my warm pits bread like I was at a Superbowl party… ya, that good! I brought home some baklava for my wife, yes I had a piece too, and she liked it. Its not made there but still did a good job satisfying the sweet tooth. I really liked this place, I think Anthony Bourdain would find this kind of place after a day of drinking in Charleston, simple but really good.

Excellent! I got the falafel platter which came with hummus, baba ganoush and tabouleh. The person working there was the owners brother. He was very friendly. The platter usually comes with an Israeli salad but, he had just made fresh tabouleh, so he offered that instead. It was so good, everything was. The falafel was perfect-crispy in the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. Everything was delicious, I used to live in Israel and everything tasted like it did there!

Located in back alley /corner of Tanger Market. Don’t let the location or storefront fool you, they have some really great falafels, hummus and grape leaves(meat). Great for lunch!

This is the best falafel and baba ganouj that I’ve had so far. If you think baba ganouj is a bland food have it here to see what it should taste like. Try the home made shatta(red hot sauce). The downside is that it’s kind of a small place and two platters and a baklava will set you back about $ 30 before the taxes and tip. Also, both times we have been it has been a one man show, so it can take some time to get your food/pay if there are other people in the store.

I haven’t had the food yet, but we just ordered a falafel platter for takeout and the guy charged us $ 12.99. We got one piece of pita bread, 5 small falafel, a few tbsp each of hummus and baba ghanouj, and a small chopped salad. The price on the board says $ 8.99…the guy told us what we got was the«daily special,» hence the $ 4 difference in price. What a ripoff!

Don’t be fooled by the entrance this place is a great authentic find. Seems off putting as you walk in but the gentleman that works here /own this place is humerous and very friendly. The seating is deli style seating with a grocery aisle behind you. We sat up front and ordered 2 falafel sandwiches with Jerusalem salads. The salads were very tasty and well made and flavored. I’m used to the veggies diced a little more but that’s just aesthetics and had nothing to do with the taste of it. The falafel sandwich had what seemed like the same salad I just had with taziki sauce inside a soft half of a pita bread. Can I say that every bite had a taste of warm falafel that was soft on the inside with a little crunch in the outside. We ended up getting a sampling of hummus with olive oil and baklava both a pistachio and walnut. The hummus was to die for. Although the pita samples he gave almost broke my jaw(considering I just had surgery yesterday) but I’m glad I had some of the pita bread from my sandwich left and used it to scoop up the hummus. The baklava was good but it didn’t seem home made to me. The pistachio was a lot harder to eat than the walnut one. All in all this place is worth the try. I’m definitely coming back to try the kofta as soon as I can.

Falafel delish!!! Most authentic Middle Eastern falafel I have had in Charleston. Served in a pita with lettuce Jerusalem salad(chopped tomatoes, cucumber, green pepper, onion) and tahini sauce. Most other places in town have served with tzaziki sauce– not as authentic as tahini! Small Arab market sells hooka supplies and various herbs and novelty snacks with café counter for ordering food.

This is a great little shop hidden over in Tanger. I stopped in for lunch one day and had the gyro plate — oh, hello delicious — it was the business. I also got a hummus to take home. The food was really good — I highly recommend the falafel if you’re in the mood to try something a bit different and vegetarian. They also have a variety of middle eastern grocery items. I stocked up on spices… super cheap and in big containers. The only complaints I have are the lack of seating and the stuffiness of the store — I don’t think they have air conditioning — little bit of a problem in the summer months here!
