Grinder’s Above & Beyond

Grinders is about as good as it gets when it comes to cheap, casual family dining. The French Onion soup is the best I have ever had and the menu has something for everyone!

Our standby for a quick and delicious dinner when we are in a hurry but don’t want to do fast food. Love the soups n salad or salad and sweet potato combos. Lots of daily choices for soup. Grinders are always good too. Grinders (aka toasted sub sandwich) are good size and always filling. I especially like the fish grinder. Try the sweet potato fries too. Yum! Save room for dessert cause there pie, pie and more pie.

They sell a cheeseburger salad where the dressing is ketchup and mustard. 5 stars would get diabetes again.

Since we don’t have a Grinders Above & Beyond in Northern California, we needed to try this place out! We are so glad we did! The menu is ginormous and not overpriced! The waiter had to come back to the table three times before we could decide what to order. Seriously, this place has something for everyone! They even have a dessert tray they bring to the table!
Our food was delicious! The house made chips were the best we’d ever had; super crunchy and perfectly seasoned, not over salted! They even bring out an extra glass of ice for the freshly brewed ice tea! The hamburgers were juicy and perfectly cooked, the grinders were filling, and the salads were overloaded with goodies! Unfortunately, there was no room left for dessert
The waiter and staff were super attentive. They kept coming by our table to see how everything was, refilled our drinks and to ask if we needed anything else.
I know we will definitely be back here again when we come to Canton! Maybe we will start with dessert first!

I liked this place! So I’m giving it 5 stars meaning it does a good job doing right what it does. Great value and low prices… Attentive staff… Good tasting food… My husband and I both got the soup sandwich combo. The Italian grinder and the wedding soup, but he got French onion. Everything was delicious! Except I got my sandwich hot… And I felt that just dried the bread. Still a fiver tho! Because of the value and great taste. French onion soup was delish. Wish they had this place further north! Simple place like a max and ermas type vibe but a little more plain, but taken care of, but simple and, just nice, unassuming.

This place was an excellent recommendation. I had the Key West salad and added fiesta chicken which was absolutely delicious. I then polished my meal off with a fresh slice of homemade pistachio cream pie which was to die for. If you’re in the area you have to stop by here and check it out.

Still a go to for my family. We love the salads — and you get them in sizes to fit different appetites. The steak salad is consistently good. The Asian is above average and the Cobb is a generous portion of everything. My wife loves their sweet Italian house dressing. Think Itailan with just a touch of sweet and sour.
My kids are older and love the grinders. They switch it up a lot. Fries are good. If you would like something light and smaller the Mahi and rice is till consistently good. My wife has changed her go to to the Fish and chips — but she subs in Mac and cheese for a buck.
Only negative I would say the place is set up for groups of 4 with only a couple of options for groups of 5 – 6 (we have 5). So more than 4 can be a longer wait on a weekend.

Used to be high quality family restaurant. Lately, however, service has been poor and food sub-​par. Disappointing because my family have loved this restaurant for many years.

My mom and I went for an early dinner. We arrived at 4:45 so I was a bit surprised on how crowded it already was. I now know why, this place has good food and is a great value. The menu is remarkable — there is something for everyone: small plates, big plates, soups, salads, sandwiches, etc, etc. My mom and I both ordered wraps, which were terrific and too much food to finish. The only reason for 4 stars was because the food was slow to be served. Everything else was good. Sadly, we didn’t save enough room for dessert which looked amazing. We’ll definitely go back… and save room for the sweets.

Whenever I’m in a mood for a salad, Grinder’s is on my short list. The menu is large enough to eat right or get a full load of carbs in one meal. Their cheesy potatoes are delicious and plenty to share. Their Chinese Chicken salad is huge and served traditionally.

Inexpensive and big portions — seems like a locally owned Applebee’s with better food. Not quite the bar selection of an Applebee’s/TGI Fridays, but they do offer a handful of options for beer and wine. Service is fairly solid and wait times are minimal even when they’re busy. Lots of good sandwiches (their obvious specialty).

Cup of soup and ½ grinder is just the right amount for a late lunch. I chose the wedding soup and the Original Eastern. The service was quick and friendly as always. The only small complaint that I had was that the soup had bread cubes and slightly weak broth. A lot of bread. It almost seemed to me like they were trying to stretch it, as I have never had that in their wedding soup before.

I had the basic Italian style sub/​grinder or whatever it is. It was okay but could have been a heck of a lot better. I’m not sure if it was the toppings, the condiments, or the whole thing but I was not impressed. When we went I almost had the Philly grinder but at the last minute changed my mind. Should have gone with my original choice, I probably would have enjoyed it more.
The menu was pretty extensive with something there for just about anyone.

Inexpensive and ample food. Good variety on the menu. Something for just about everyone. The grilled chicken wrap I had was just as described and a good choice for someone watching their intake (me).

This place was better than expected. I used to go here quite a bit when I was younger and I never really liked it that much, but I was a very picky eater then too.
The menu is huge. Their specialty, of course, is the grinder, but they also have a big selection of many different entrees. I chose to go with the Southwest Style grinder with fries. The spiciness was delicious. It was turkey with jalapeño bacon, chipotle mayo, cheddar cheese, lettuce, & onion. The fries were decent. Service was good, not outstanding. I definitely would go back again and try some other things.

Everything was really good. Sweet tater chips… Yum. Soups… Home made an tastey. Grinders… Quite good. Sweet tea… Best I’ve had in the area.

Quite a large menu, I have tried a lot of different things on the menu and have never been disappointed! Cincinnati Chili is a Fav of mine! They have great salads and great subs (grinders). New look is super cute and comfy, added a patio too which is nice in the summer! They serve beer and wine now too. another Plus! Service is always good! Desserts are good, with a wide selection.

If you’re going to eat at Grinder’s make sure to get their Amelia’s Sweet Potato Chips, they are the best! The food is good, and although the price has increased over the years, it’s still reasonable. Their new patio seating is great in the summer. They have a wide variety of menu items ranging from superb salads to full dinners. Make sure you save room for dessert, because their pies and sundaes are some of the best I’ve ever had!
