Was giving this place another chance and I’m sorry I did. First, Upon entering we waited about 5 minutes before anyone even notice we were there. Then, once seated, I ordered a glass of sauvignon blanc and received either an old spoiled glass or the wrong wine completely. Whichever it was, it was not good. I politely sent it back and was told I would get a new drink as soon as the bartender finished cleaning the bar. Really? He can’t take 2 minutes to pour a glass of wine? Then the food came… I wish it didn’t. The pita with the crab dip was so burnt there was no way to enjoy it. The fig goat cheese caramelized onion flatbread was mushy and unappetizing and the macaroni and cheese was like soup. I can’t even say the service was good, although the waitress was nice, we were stranded outside for a good 45 minutes before we were able to order a second round of drinks… This place is still on a downward spiral with no silver lining in sight.

So I just hosted a party here this past Sunday 6÷12÷16. It was a 90 year old birthday party with 35 people ranging from 1 year old to 90 year old. Lago, Danny, and his staff went above and beyond to make this perfect for everyone. We went in 30 minutes early to set up our decorations and they made wonderful suggestions as to where we should place everything. All they had asked of me as a host is that after the surprise and hello’s that I ask everyone to sit for 5 minutes to take everyone’s order. Done. No problem. We had chosen the sit down dinner menu and chose chicken Parmesan, prime rib, and stuffed tilapia. They started with penne vodka, and a salad. Both were very good and everything was hot. After that the dinners came out. The chicken, prime rib and fish were out of this world. Nothing was dry, everything was cooked to perfection, it was exactly how you requested it. I really mean it, the food was phenomenal. The waitresses were on their game and really were nothing less then perfect. They kept drinks flowing, tables clean, and made sure to check on everyone to make sure you had everything you needed. And whatever you asked for, they were back in a flash. We filtered in and out to the bar, and when our party room time was over, we moved outside and occupied tables and keep the night going. I can not say enough wonderful things about it all. I highly recommend anyone looking to have an event to check this place out.

We decided to hold a retirement party there and had about 85 people on a weeknight. Dealing with the managers beforehand was a breeze, set up was great, food was excellent but I have to mention that the service was terrible. There were about 3 servers assigned to the party that night — and they were not around much. We had a small table with some antipasto and after the meal was served this table still held the dirty serving dishes for almost the entire party. This should have been taken away and the cake should have been displayed. The cake did not come out until at least ½ the guests were gone. Finished meal dishes were left on tables throughout most of the evening — we had to track down a server to ask to take them off. It was difficult to find the servers. I don’t know what they were doing because the rest of the restaurant had only 2 tables occupied. Besides that everything else was good, location or the outside is really nice, set up with our dj was great but because of the service I don’t think we will be seeing much of Lago in the future for my family and friends…

The woman behind the bar was a hot mess and it drastically impacted service. I just wanted a few drinks and appetizers for a client and I to enjoy while we took in the lake view. Terrible service, average food… I was less than thrilled.

The ambiance outside is nice, but inside it can get a little loud. I find the food alright, a little pricey for a okay burger. But the drinks are good and it’s a nice place for happy hour.

Okay so I will preface this by saying I called the restaurant beforehand to make a reservation. There were a few things I specifically inquired about. 1) I asked if we could sit outside if the weather was nice. They said yes. 2) I asked if there was music and if it would be so loud that we wouldn’t be able to have a conversation. They said of course not, that wouldn’t be an issue. So I get there, and ask to be seated. We are not only told we can’t sit outside, but they sat us RIGHTINFRONT of the live band. Needless to say, the music did get annoyingly obnoxious and loud to the point where I had to scream to get in a conversation. This particularly irked me since that was my primary concern and the restaurant totally failed me on that account. As for the service, it was difficult calling the waiter over since the music was so loud and they charged us for a drink that was not brought to us. My food was good but a few of my friends complained about it being too bland. Overall what really did it for me was the live music. I’m very hesistant to return.

I suggest reading my previous reviews. The place has gone downhill. I don’t see why all their workers are incompetent. You might have a good experience at the bar or if you’re having a large event, but as a restaurant serving small parties this is a failure. Just stay away. Everyone I’ve spoken to who has been here recently have had terrible dining eperiences. From incompetent waiters to the food timing to the management, they just can’t run a restaurant. How disappointing. In 50 years I have never once heard my mother complain about service in a restaurant. Until now. She was«pissed»… a word I never heard her use before. Y’all need professionally trained servers and a kitchen staff that prepares orders in a timely manner for ALL customers regardless of what other functions are going on.

What a mess here. Lago is a far cry from its former excellence, Sir Johns. First off, the menus were filthy. Covered in dirt and sticky goo. I thought it was just mine, but my entire party of 5 complained about the same filthy menus. Appetizers were average. We all ordered entrees which were delivered in appx 30min. Except for my meal… braised short ribs. The waitress said they took a while to cook. After 1 hour and 3 minutes, the waitress brought it out with no apology or explanation. That’s more than a while! No word from the chef or the manager at any point. Total disregard for service. The entrees again were average. We will not be back.

It’s been over two years since I have eaten here. The new owners have done a nice job with the dining room, and of course there is a beautiful view of the lake. We came on Monday for their prime rib special. While it wasn’t a classic prime rib — it was delicious. One member of our party had a salmon dish — and she cleaned off her plate. The food was excellent. Those who came in the past — put that aside and give this place another try. We are lucky to have this beautiful place nearby. Service was great as well.

With so many great memories of the old Sir John’s(though not the food), I had high hopes for its reincarnation, aptly named Lago.(Not to be confused with its Vegas equivalent at the Bellagio, which hosted a magnificent YEE last year). I visited with my daughter for a girls’ night out. As we waited for a full five minutes before anyone showed up at the desk, I noticed the beautiful décor, which would have been warmed up considerably had there been a single table occupied. But the presence of a few locals at the separate bar were the only living, breathing occupants of the cavernous space. Definitely not a good sign. Oh, the parking lot was full, but that turned out to be due to a private party taking place. I guess that’s what keeps them in business. We settled in, ordered two glasses of prosecco, and checked out the menu. We decided to share two entrees — Creole Salmon for me and Maple Whiskey Pork Chops for my daughter. I try to avoid Atlantic salmon, which this was, but nothing else was calling my name, so I bit the bullet and forged ahead, ordering the cream sauce on the side. The two dishes looked beautiful, so A+ for presentation. My salmon sat atop a bed of sauteed spinach. As I ladled a bit of the lemon creole mustard cream sauce over the fish, I couldn’t figure out what the small lumps in the sauce were — mozzarella balls, maybe? That seemed too weird. It took more than a couple of samplings to realize that they were lumps of the lump crabmeat that was supposed to adorn the salmon. Why did the chef drown those nuggets in sauce? While the salmon was okay, it could have benefited from a bit less cooking time. The spinach was just plain ol’ spinach, no garlic, and it was bitter. The sauce was supposed to be creole. By what definition? I didn’t taste lemon or even mustard. The pork chops were a thick cut, bone-in, and looked juicy. But looks aren’t everything. They were dry, and tasted faintly of maple and nothing of whiskey. The veggies were good and the red-skinned mashed potatoes were the best part of both meals. Before our dinner, I had been so happy to think that Sir John’s had risen from the ashes, and that it would be a wonderful spot to go back to when warm weather returned. Sadly, the ashes should be sprinkled over Farrington Lake.

Had our daughters christening party here and have to say I wasn’t impressed. It wasn’t cheap(!) and the service could have been better as well as food. We paid for an in room bar which was poorly stocked. Not enough glasses Etc and every time someone wanted a lemon or something the bartender left to get one lemon from the main bar. The line was so long! Eventually they put some at the bar. I made a couple requests about the music hook up and types of liquor and they didn’t have either ready or handled. They also never gave me the rest of my favors that were left over and when I asked I guess they were gone. Just not managed well in my opinion. I tried to find a place close to the church so I chose this place. Wished it went a bit smoother. I was always looking for someone to help w something, there was nobody coming to check that everything was ok.

Sir LAGO’S Menu has some good food! I enjoy the steaks and sitting outside. The Bar seems a bit weird. They should maybe turn the little bar into more of a Sports Bar. More TV’s and better service. It feels uncomfortable in there for some reason.

We had the pleasure of dining at Lago on Friday night. We were invited for a birthday celebration. At first I was a bit hesitant because 1) it’s a Friday night and usually the quality of meals and service suffer and 2) we were going to be with a group, again, not ideal on a Friday. Another thing I was afraid of… eating outside on a humid august night, bugs! Gladly, I can say only humans were dining :) We had a variety of appetizers, which included the Calamari, the meat and cheese board(yummmm to the Brie on it! well all the cheese for that, but the brie was super creamy), and Artichoke/Crab dip. I ordered the scallops with Brussels sprouts which was a special. The scallops were big and succulent and perfectly done. I could have eaten the Brussels Sprout all by themselves! I gotta say, from the Server(Jessica) to bartender, to the manager, Danny, it was excellent. Totally beyond my expectations! The view on the patio was stunning. I used to like Sir John’s many years ago, but this is such a welcome change. We will be back many more times.

Epic fail. This place has the potential to be much better. The first problem is that I tried to make a 7 pm reservation and it said that nothing was available, so I had to do 7:15. When I arrived at 7:10, the place was EMPTY! Where was this 7 pm rush that I couldn’t get a table. Next issue, the waiter couldn’t recommend a wine, appetizer, or entrée. Everything he recommend was the worse thing I ever ate or drank. Service was extremely slow(mainly our server). We saw people come and go as we still waited for our appetizer. You would thing that the manager would be walking around talking to Customers, but of course that didn’t happened. This place has a lot of potential if they did a clean house and start all over!

I can only review Lago for service because I only had a few drinks on the patio. The manager, Danny, is very friendly, he made a point to walk out to patio and introduce himself. He asked us if we needed menus, we told him we were just stopping by to have a drink, a few minutes later he came out with a plate of cannoli sand blueberries, comps from him, and thanked us for stopping by. The lake view is stunning, beer cold, service outstanding.

Lago was good. The location is breath taking. Sitting out on the patio is a treat. It puts you on a vacation zone. Drinks were delicious and made to perfection. It was karaōke night so inside bar was getting full. Dinner was so good I finished my plate and my husbands. They are not large portions. Service was amazing. I would go again.

Lago’s rating spikes off the charts for ambiance but is mediocre in the food department. Because the two balance each other out well, let’s call it a solid 3. Formerly known as Sir Johns, not much has changed besides the menu and the name. The décor and layout is still just as I remember it from past visits when it was a different restaurant. Before we get on to the eats, it’s only fair that I pay homage to the patio dining area. If it’s a nice day, don’t even think about eating inside. The patio is situated directly on the lake and the views are stunning. The Central Jersey area definitely doesn’t have many waterfront dining options and it’s nice to have Lago in the mix. I’m not much of a buffet gal(quality over quantity all da way man!) but everyone else was up for it and I succumbed to the pressure. Don’t get me wrong, the buffet was presented beautifully and the food was decent, it just didn’t knock my socks off. I was vibing lunch over breakfast, and mainly stuck with some of those options. The penne vodka was burnt and dry but the chicken was delicious and was coated in a white wine sauce with asparagus and sun dried tomatoes. Okay, I snuck in some bacon too. It was awesome. Have you ever had terrible bacon? Probs not. We were really excited about the snow crab legs, but they unfortunately were nowhere to be found on the buffet that day. Wompppp womp. Our table started off with a glass of complimentary sangria to wash it all down, and after a taste of the delicious potion we kept the pitchers free flowin’! Regardless of food choice, make a trip to Lago during the summer to enjoy a drink on the patio and take in the views. It’s refreshing, relaxing and completely worth it!

This was my first time returning to this establishment since the changeover from Sir John’s to Lago. I decided it was time to return and give this«new» place a try. I made reservations for Valentine’s day a week in advance. The staff was very friendly and accommodating on the phone. On the day of, we arrived early but did not have to wait. We were shown to our seats. Our waitress Stephanie was very good. I have no complaints about the service we received whatsoever. My reasoning for the unfortunate 2 star review was the food. There was a pre fixe menu for the holiday, but it was a good variety of choices. I ordered the meatballs wellington, which I found the dough to meatball ratio favoring the dough. The seasoning was questionable as well. I don’t know what it was, but they just didn’t do it for me. My wife had the fried calamari, she said it tasted as of they were frozen and not fresh. As the entrée, I ordered the heart shaped ravioli and my wife ordered the filet mignon. I was excited because I love fresh pasta and since they were heart shaped, I expected them to be freshly made. I was disappointed, as they didn’t taste fresh at all. The vodka sauce was pretty standard, not much flavor, overall a very mediocre dish. My wife asked for her filet mignon to be cooked raw. It came out to the table well done. She did not enjoy it as well as she would’ve if it was cooked as she ordered it. The best part of the meal was the dessert, as they had cannoli’s. Quickest way to my heart is through a cannoli, but I digress. Sadly I was disappointed with the food overall. I’d expect with a pre fixe menu and a holiday like Valentine’s day, the food would exceed expectations. In this case, it fell short. It would be hard for me to recommend Lago to anyone, but it wasn’t bad enough for me to say stay away. Even I may give them another chance sometime down the road, maybe on a normal dinner night to get a taste of the regular menu.
