My family and I have been bringing our cars there for years now. The last experience I had I had my breaks changed only to be charged about $ 100 more than I should have. I shopped around to get some pricing but at that point they had already done the work. More recently I had my car towed there using AAA so that was no charge, However I was surprised to find out they were charging me $ 450 to replace my ignition switch lock cylinder. When I expressed my disappointment in the price, he dropped it down $ 50. I then called around and got 2 quotes both around $ 250 however by the time I get it towed again… when I told him what I was quoted he replied «your not going to be happy with anything!»… really? after all these years of business. I know everyone needs to make money but that is a bit ridiculous. Needless to say, he lost 3 customers today.

I went here today after a long 2 day drive from California, and I know I needed an oil change pronto! I was looking for somewhere friendly and mom and pop that would actually take care of the car as a whole.
On the phone, a young lady told me the wait would be about an hour. It was fine for me since googles reviews were decent, and I saw it was near a shore so I figured I would get a nice view of the town in. I came in and Rob (the R in RJ) helped me and was such a nice man! He got my car in right away, I asked him if they could do it in 45 since I wanted to catch a Yale tour (another must in town!). He said sure, why for me, yes! I grabbed a cup of their complimentary coffee and strolled down the street to get a great view of the water.
I was just surprised to see my phone service was zero in this very cute and remote part of town, although they said a tower is being built soon! Another plus besides the beautiful nearby view and free coffee is their wifi! I got on my laptop and was able to work during the wait.
After half an hour (definitely over delivering!) they said I was all set. I have never been to a car place that took in my vehicle right away and got me out that quick. Also, I paid 38 bucks for an oil change which isn’t bad at all. This definitely beats pepboys at home!
Another note to point out that during my wait, there was another man waiting. When Rob told him his car was done (apparently he just found a nail), the guy insisted on paying but Rob insisted otherwise saying he doesn’t sweat the small stuff. That right there is real noble and true customer service. I am one happy customer, and I’m definitely recommending the place to my sister moving here and all you Unilocalers!

I go to RJ Shore in Branford on Shore Dr. I have been going there for about 7 years. They have been fair and honest and have helped me out in a pinch many times. Whether I need real work done or just need my bike tires inflated or some antifreeze they always help. They are a good neighbor and good mechanics. Brian at the service desk is very helpful, Rob and Jimmy (owners) are willing to help out whenever my family needs them. I’m a neighbor, customer and a fan.
