After reading reviews and the daily candy article, I decided to try the jaw massage. I am a chronic teeth clencher when I sleep, so I’ve got a lot of tension around my jaw. The massage did nothing for me, and I think it caused me a little more pain for the next couple of days. I’m sure her regular massages are a lot better, but she does not know enough about jaw related issues, to says she«specializes» in massaging the jaw. Overall, the masseuse was a really nice person, but I think she talked a little too much for me. When I’m getting a massage, I like to concentrate on relaxing and not on holding a conversation. Be You Bi Yu just recently moved to downtown Bethesda, so parking might be difficult. There are a number of garage nearby.

I received the best massage here. The place is very relaxing and the staff is very friendly. The whole experience is unique and all your stress melts away.

I’ve since been back — bringing both my parents(I finally talked them into going!) and my boyfriend. They all LOVED it. I trust Hyun with people I love and she’s getting to meet them. I still highly, highly recommend this place. P. S. The receptionist is really accommodating and sweet. It’s a treat even to just wait for other people while they’re getting massages!

I’ve noticed that while most of the people on here have raved about the spa treatments and experiences in during these treatments, not many people have reviewed what goes on outside of the treatment rooms. The minute I walked in, a sense of calm washed over me. There were salt lamps and a few candles to illuminate the lobby, and some music was quietely playing in the background. The receptionist was very warm and inviting, as was the owner(and chief esthetician/massage therapist), Hyun. I was offered some delicious and refreshing cucumber water, and I munched on a small but potent piece of chocolate while I waited for my service. There was no hustle and bustle that can usually become a problem for a larger salon/spa, so relaxing and feeling comfortable was easier than anywhere else I had gone. Most importantly, I didn’t feel pressured to buy anything or take a look at their latest products, so I could focus on my main goal, total relaxation. While there is not enough seating for, say, a party of 10, the lobby allows for comfortable seating for about 5 people. It is clear that their most important goal is total relaxation for the client, not some kind of factory that cares only about revenue and squeezing as many people as possible.

Those of you who have never experienced the healing and playful atmosphere of Be You Bi Yu should certainly give it a try. The moment you walk through the door your senses are enlivened by a fragrant, aromatic scent reminiscent of cinnamon, cloves and hot cider. You are immediately greeted by a warm smile from Hyun, the owner, who will then embrace you in an expression of her philosophy — that touch heals. In addition to the DC-slanted spa services like the jaw massage(reviewed by the Washington Post magazine), there is the crackberry massage crafted especially for lawyers and other Washington professionals. Past the wood-floored, mirror-walled exercise and auxiliary room, you will enter the calming oasis of the meditation room decorated with cushions, plants and meditation bowls. For me and any other Washingtonian craving a respite from the escalator-rush/Starbucks-shot world of downtown and its environs, Be You is the ideal space of serenity and peace.

I opted for a hot stone massage at this one and a half year old spa from the owner, Hyun. It was my first hot stone massage so I have nothing to compare it to. It was very relaxing, so it did the trick. I think I would go for the traditional deep tissue or Swedish next time. As far as price goes, I believe they are comparable to other spas in the DC area. I was amused however, to see that they offer a «Crackberry Thumbs and Keyboard Wrists Massage» for $ 80(30 min.). The spa menu is extensive. Hyun was featured in the Washington Post Magazine last year for her Jaw Massage at the spa. This spa offers a variety of holistic classes too.

Hyun Martin is without a doubt the best massage therapist & spiritual healer in the DC area. Her new spa is an oasis in the otherwise hectic an self-centered rush of the metropolis. This is about so much more than a massage, but don’t worry, you won’t be pestered about new age stuff unless you want to be. The aromatherapy treatment is also wonderful. The facial treatment leaves your skin as soft as when you were a baby. And, as an added bonus, an entire line of sensual pleasure aids!
