This place is down right gross. People come here because of the Twin Peaks show, not for the food or cleanliness. It is run down, dirty, and not worth the prices you pay to eat here. And no, the coffee isn’t that fine either. I really want to like this place more since it is one of the few places that serves breakfast in North Bend. But it really isn’t worth the frustration. You will not be seated if you have a large group without calling ahead. They only have 2 larger tables and they fill them with however many people want to sit there. The biscuits are dry, overcooked, and hard as rocks. But the French fries are decent, so that’s good. right? I really hate giving bad reviews. However I can’t be honest and say this is a place you should visit. Do yourself a favor, go. look at it, take a picture, and then go somewhere else.

Of course, if you know Twin Peaks, you know Twede’s! This place hasn’t always had décor you want to crow about, but since it’s recent remodel for the third season of the show, it looks like a proper PNW/Lynchian diner. For fans of the show, there are now a lot more direct references to the Double R all over the building. I’ve never ventured off of the breakfast menu, but it is a major bang for your buck. I usually get the 2 egg + meat combo(with FOUR slices of bacon, ilu Twede’s, you are the best), and it runs around $ 10 with plenty of leftovers to bring home. Pro tip: get the biscuit as your bread option!!! The coffee actually is «damn fine.» :) If you are a Twin Peaks fan, you obviously also need to spring for the cherry pie — which is so good(and I don’t even like cherry pie, so that’s saying something)!! It has a buttery, flaky crust, and the filling is an equal balance of tart and sweet. So yummy. Twede’s is definitely a neighborhood joint, but given it’s connection to a cult favorite, there’s always gonna be a few touristy types there, but it’s not overtly touristy a la the Hard Rock Café or something similar. The staff are really sweet, although they seem like they’re often slammed on the weekends(for good reason!), so be nice and tip well! Parking can be a bit of a gamble, but if you come after the rush(11:30 or later on the weekends), you should be able to grab a spot in the on-site lot. I love this little joint!

Being there for decades, the place became a part of the historic downtown of North Bend. First named as «Thompson’s café», then«Mar-T café»(it’s when David Lynch discovered the place and decided to shoot there a Pilot of his legendary Twin Peaks). Then it became«Twede’s Café». It was closed for a while after the fire in 2000, but completely remodeled and restored. In 2015 they changed the design and it looks more like Norma’s RR now: again appeared wooden like walls, red chairs, plaid floor. And at the same time David Lynch was spotted thereafter the announcement of new Twin Peaks, 3d season coming out in 2017. More customers will arrive?! Now it’s a usual stop for mountain pass travelers, locals, and for the last 25 years for tourists that are in love with David Lynch’s Twin Peaks show. Furthermore, this show immortalized the cherry pie and«a damn fine» coffee. As for the food itself: They have breakfast all day: eggs, omelets, biscuits and gravy, burrito, French toast, waffles, breakfast sandwiches etc. There used to be 100 burgers when we came here first in 2008. Then they cut it in a half and left only 50. I guess they discontinued and gave up from the others that were less popular. But if you have special desire for upgrades — just let your waiter know and they will add what you want or change anything. Of course if they have those ingredients and you don’t ask for blinis with caviar, beluga fish or Champagne. I’m talking about such grounded and customary things as bacon, mushrooms(not morel mushrooms of course), and extra cheese. There is a «Twin Peaks» burger of course. Most burgers are for 10 – 11 $$. All you can eat fries you get with any burger. If no burgers, there are salads, cold and hot sandwiches. There is a dinner menu that starts at 5pm, includes such dishes as roast beef or turkey, spaghetti, pork chops. I haven’t seen Meatloaf there though. But they have soups, changing every day of the week. There is a senior menu — that is of smaller portions, but same taste. Few beer selections, like Bud or Bud light, local beer too. And wine goes as Chardonnay, Merlot or White Zinfandel, by glass. Never mind, it’s a local diner, not a haut cuisine Michelin Star restaurant. No wonder Catherine or Ben Horne ever showed up to this place. So if you there — must be a reason why you are there, then enjoy the ambience and what they offer: simply country food and local way of life. As for sweets: milkshakes. Try chocolate flavor as Nadine’s favorite or traditional vanilla, strawberry, Oreo, caramel etc. Sundaes, cookies. Cherry Pie and all other pies are made daily as they say. But if it’s so, why do the freeze them and defrost every time a customer orders? Pie crust is homemade. A la mode or just a pie — any style sounds good to me. Also Boysenberry, Banana, Coconut and Chocolate Cream. But those are less popular of course. The portions are huge. «No one ever goes away hungry». Trust me on that one. The service is good. And that’s great that with years there are working the same people, maybe it’s already like a family to them. The owner Twede come there to work every day so you can say hi. But don’t expect to see waiters wearing special neat uniform like Norma, Shelly or Annie, they wear T-shirts of the diner. Besides the highlights of the menu, what else do they have?! Open mike every Tuesday evening, for instance. And they have draft pictures for children to color and funny books that you can read while waiting your order. The corner in the back next to the restroom, the whole wall is dedicated to Twin Peaks show: rare photos from the times they shot the pilot over there more than 25 years ago already, newspaper and magazine articles, post cards. Also you can read there the history of the place and about the fire. And on the rear back wall outside flashes a huge painting of «Welcome to Twin Peaks» known to all of you. You can buy a pack of damn Twin Peaks fine coffee as a present there too. Among coffee or pie, they sell post cards, Twin Peaks mugs, T-shirts, magnets and maps of the places shown in the pilot TP. But I’m thinking one thing here: being objective and impartial, since it’s not Norma’s café and I’m not her mother. If it was not for Twin Peaks show — that place wouldn’t be so popular among tourists and of course you might not choose it passing buy and consider other options. But I never liked subjunctive mood, so as Twin Peaks happened there, the place is crowned to be famous. «If you want local color, stop in. But if it’s good food you want — find a wider berth». Parking is free in the rear and on the café parking. They don’t need a good review from me in the paper for a lot of business; I guess it’s quite prosperous without it thanks to the show. But I still hope it’s not a piece of trash and you find it exiting.
