Let me start by saying that this place is most definitely a dive. You will walk through a dirty, crowded room(where you can also see the kitchen area) to get to the bar/dining area. Then you will likely meet Roger, who is quite a character. If you complain about something(like a too sour margarita), you will almost certainly hear exactly how he feels about your opinion, which is probably the exact opposite(«that’s how real margaritas are made, with none of that sweet crap!»). However, he fixed the problem and was plenty friendly after that. The menu is pretty extensive with several appetizers, salads, pizzas and calzones. The toppings they offer are very unique and unexpected at such a location. For example, eggplant is an option, although they were out of it when we went. We got the cheesy garlic bread to start and it was fantastic! Very yummy. Then, we ordered a large pizza, half«Zoo Special» and half«Mediterranean.» The pizza was huge and the toppings were very generous. And, it was delicious! The crust is unlike anything I’ve had before(my grandma says it «melts in your mouth») and it folds over at the edges so the toppings continue up until the very edge of the slice. There is a decent selection of local craft beers and it was an overall good experience. A true Coos Bay dive with great food and a very eclectic feel!

This is one location I’ve held off reviewing out of respect for specific people but… it’s time to let ‘er rip! This location is FILTHYDIRTY and I have NO clue how they’ve stayed in business. Oh wait, yes I do!!! IF you can close your eyes, your ears, and learn to not take offense from people you’re paying to visit — the food has been known to be quite good. Unfortunately, we have sat in the kitchen area long enough to «watch» and see. ARRGH! Roger is a character alright. I love opinionated people, but there’s a huge difference between opinionated and rude. Asked for salt at one time and was told«Go GRIND it yourself!» And the meal was over $ 70! I think not. I endured the rude treatment to get to the food for quite a long time. A line was crossed and I determined this place is NOT for me. In my opinion it is places like this that give the Bay Area of Oregon it’s well deserved bad reputation. The dirty bay. But hey… as stated, if you want an incredible pizza, amazing lasagna, or even delightful little garlic cheese bread — this place is for you. The best way to enjoy a meal is to send someone over to pick it up so you don’t have to look around. Yeah, yeah… I know it’s the most convenient spot for locals who don’t want others to know they drink to go, since they can easily slip in and out through the«kitchen» doors. Gotta love it — full grown adults who feel they have to hide having a drink if they so choose… but again, it’s the Bay Area. Some things we come to expect… like rude behavior from folks we spend money with. NOT!

Don’t let the exterior fool you, this is one of the best local secrets. Great pizza, calzones, steak and food. Fresher seafood than at most of the seafood restaurants in the area. Roger is a great host, but not a place to be if you are thin skinned, or can’t take a joke.

Roger’s Zoo is the dive bar to visit if you are in Coos/North Bend. The outer appearance is a little scary(all black peeling paint on the outside) and the inside is pretty dirty, but that is what dive bars are all about. Everyone is very nice at Roger’s drinks come fast and are strong, and you can check out some really fun signs and other décor while you drink. I have had the pizza at Roger’s as well(work meeting-don’t ask), and it was hands down the best pizza I have had in Coos County. Definitely worth a try– Roger’s is the place I send people to when they are visiting, because it is signature Coos/North Bend.

Rogers Zoo — a bar run by an self described agoraphobic, while it might sound like a recipe for disaster, it’s actually a perfect storm of incredibly hard to find craft beers and some of the best pizza I’ve had outside of NYC. Just resist the urge to run in the other direction when you walk in the front door.

Rogers. Oh Rogers. Those that have dared venture through the scary, is this place going to fall on me, doors have been welcomes into a world unlike any other. I am normally a pretty picky about the environment in which I eat, but for Rogers, I make an exception. It’s a bar, a dark, dirty, disgusting bar. But they make a fine drink. And you know what else? They make the hands-down most incredible pizza I have ever had. It is out of this world. It is indescribible. You just gotta go there and experience it for yourself. A warning. Bring your appetite and don’t be in a hurry because the pizza takes about 1.5 hours to make. But don’t worry, they have tons of lukewarm beer to keep you happy. And you know what? I love it.

My favorite place in Coos Bay! Been going here for pizza with my family for over 20 years. I’ve only ever had pizza and nachos here, but I think the menu is fairly extensive. Roger is great but if you are from out of town and easily offended, just keep an open mind. It’s fairly ‘eclectic’ as others have described and it’s a bar so what else do you expect? The main part is a bar, where you have to be over 21, but I believe there is a family section in the adjoining space. He also does take-out, but it takes at least 45 minutes for pizza so call way ahead of when you want it.

This place is a treasure trove of avant-garde kitsch! Roger is a colorful character, and I can say I like this place, but I definitely LOVE this place. Stop by for a cold one and experience the Zoo.

We’ve been here a couple of times. The food was good! We really enjoyed it and the menu has a great selection. The atmosphere is laid back and quirky. They have a good selection of beers. Service there isn’t amazing, but it is pretty good. My biggest issue with Rogers Zoo is that it is dirty. The tables have been sticky every time and the glasses are gross, covered in fingerprints and just generally grimy and dirty. So if you are someone who is really about cleanliness, I would definitely avoid this place. Also, the glasses are never chilled, so if you are someone who planned to spend some time drinking that beer, it is going to be very warm by the time you are finished.

I love Roger’s. Eclectic and delicious food(esp. the pizza and burgers, always unexpectedly gourmet and awesome), great beer selection, an odd, crazy, packed-to-the-rafters junk shop type décor, fun patrons from across the spectrum of Coos Bay/North Bend denizens, and Roger himself, crazy curmudgeon that he is, bringing it all together. They often have great live music in there as well, check it out!!!

The Zoo… Wow, quite a few memories at this here bar haha. Roger is a good guy, but dont tell him that, cuz he’ll disagree with ya. The crowd that hangs here is a laid back type, the Zoo has a great selection of taps and make some killer drinks.

Best selection of brews in town. Owner hates Bush Lite. Home made fries are KILLER. Rundown joint but a comfy rundown joint. A strange pizza that you either love or hate. I hate it as I’m into classic East Coast thin crust but if you love it, you’ll love it totally, so don’t let me put you off on that unless you’re a traditionalist in terms of pizza like me. Nice older crowd means less rowdiness. Downtown parking is tough when things are booming. The Bizzaratorium isn’t open on Sundays or Mondays, so don’t expect Roger to cater to the public 100% by being ultra-convenient for days being open or his hours. It’s also non-smoking, which can be a deal killer for some. Make your choice and then go with what pleases you. Roger’s Zoo isn’t for everyone but it is a good place if it fits you.
